Simon Phillips - Regarded as one of the world's most renowned and respected drummers, Simon's style not only reflects his technical gift but also his distinct musical sensibility. Whether rock, fusion, or jazz, Simon applies the same precision and intensity to his drumming, which never lacks emotion, intensity, and feel. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, Simon worked with diverse bands and artists, including Jeff Beck, Michael Schenker, Pete Townshend, Mike Oldfield, Judas Priest, Mike Rutherford, Tears for Fears, 10cc, and The Who. After Jeff Porcaro's death in 1992, he became part of the world-famous rock band Toto.
After leaving the group in 2014, Simon continued his extraordinary session career and explored new and exciting areas of the fusion and progressive rock worlds as both a drummer and producer.

Easily one of the top all round drummers playing. Yes amazing to watch
INDEED!!!!
Mad respect for that guy!
I went to a clinic of his in Hollywood in 1990. I love this guy. It seems like the best musicians are very humble
@@jimiV66 True.....their playing speaks for itself....no need to prove anything.
A fantastic drummer and a nice humble person. I could listen for hours
I love this man! Such a polite, humble, skilled musician! He deserve MUCH more attention.
amazing guy with an amazing career
That’s actual playing….pros doing music as it should be..on the fly! Thank you for making my point Simon! What a legend!
Too funny!! I can relate! Guess it happens at all levels, even to incredible musicians like Simon. Great information, happy to learn it's not just the bands I've jammed with.
Great short story of professionalism!
great moment!
I GREW up listening to Simon with The Who... so, it took me a hot minute to retune my ear to Si with Toto. It's a great thing he stepped in for these guys when they needed him. I can't think of a better player for that time in their history. And, he and I share a birthday month! 😂 he is world class!
That’s a great stand up by a legendary musician. Much appreciated.
I could listen to this guy all day telling stories like this.
Great story.
What a LEGEND.
He had me at ‘Give Blood’ like at least 40 years ago!!! Also ‘Throwaway’ (Jagger)….there’s just something about that cut! I think it’s the confidence in his approach. Some drummers just ALWAYS PUT THINGS IN THE PLACES THEY SHOULD BE!
Simmon always humble being Professional drummer ..❤
Toto are coming here to Chile this year, I wish Simon was with them!
seems like such a nice, down to earth guy
SiPhi is a genius and funny as hell.
Bello/Magnifico 😱😱😱😱😱😱🎉🧨😯
Good times.
Desperately want that shirt
I almost look forward to a limited version of a trainwreck with ‘big’ players. ‘On their toes’ is the way to fun.
OMG, that Tama Star kit.
❤❤❤❤
Never heard that he is so funny! 😅
What I would give to see some footage of this ending!
love the monty python t-shirt
Last gig I ever played was with a guy who played keyboard for Dylan in the 60s. We were mostly playing blues, and we got to the last song, and we must have played spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to end the song, cause the guy we were playing for just never looked up.
Fun story 😊
I know that "problem" of finding no ending very very good... It feels like "panic" but then somehow you handle it and come back to the form or ending.. Muhahaha... Lot of fun!
or not
😁😁
I was never sure what simon phillips thought when he played africa and hold the line until I saw this video... Do you know what? I am happy that he answered it, Very, but his speech with whatever was going on in one of Toto's concerts was kinda hilarious.
Been there! Minus the talent though.
😄
Ahhh yes the black knight😂
Alex, Geddy, Simon?
Yes please.
I'll hold my breath
Of course the keyboardist was the one who knew the ending…
Meanwhile, the audience: Wow, these guys prepared a new ending for this tour. 😅
So it’s not just me and my band?
One gig we were playing a new song and the singer was going to sing the final line 8 times then end. Perfect.
Except at this gig he sang the line 8 times, but in double time. So 8 lines in half the time.
I stopped after the 8 lines. The rest of the band didn’t. So I hurriedly lurched back into the beat. Except the band heard me stop, so they stopped. Just as I started back.
Some of the audience started laughing. What a ridiculous train wreck. 🤷🏻
This could be so much better to watch, if only the man HAD LESS INTENSE LIGHTING POINTING ON HIM!!!
Guys, it's easy, You follow the drummer 👍🏻
I'd choose a loose, spontaneous ending from those guys over some scripted and predictable ending by anyone else,
He is "special''...js
There was obviously a very annoying spotlight on him.
He’s not used to being onstage.
