i got my myslef one for Rhino 3D and if youre planning on buyi g one, just know that it requires ((ALOT)) pf practice, its best to tweek the controls to see which axis you feel more comfortable with using for each motion, which axis you may want to invert and which motion you want to ajust sensitivities for, for instance do you feel more comfortable pushing it forward for zoom, or pushing it downward, even after youve done all that expect WEEKS of practice, dont feel discouraged it WILL feel nearly impossible at first to make the prefrence, the keyboard shortcuts will sound more appealing at first but just work at it, tweek the motions an sensitivitys and overtime you will feel liberated

I've had the Space Navigator (two buttons only) for years. When I can't use it, I'm all thumbs. The driver file is huge and because it's navigation, the device relies on the GPU (not the CPU) for processing power. When I upgraded my video setup from Intel/onboard processor to Intel i7/Nvidia GTX 1070 (4 threads/quad) everything looked and worked much better. At least that was my experience.
Then I added an SSD boot drive and now the machine is smooth and fast. (Asus ROG strix) You can buy a version of it with the SSD built-in.

I only use the space mouse when doing demos. Keyboard is SO MUCH FASTER when working with shortcuts.

Why moving your hand back and forward when you got bunch of keys, radial menus etc?

This 'quest for speed' gets curious; Now and then I get into a routine where I can pick the pace up enough to cause Sketchup to pause, or until I make a mistake because I'm going too fast. One thing I've learned; What ever you draw, draw it once and get it right, a solid if possible. Save it and the time you save when you re-use it and it's perfect will more than offset the extra time it took to make it a component, and put it in a library. All the rest is fluff, waiting to be made 'perfect' or discarded (or saved, if you like lots of clutter)

Watching this I immediately wondered if the 3D mouse worked with Google Maps, and sure enough I see videos on YT using it just for that purpose. Now combine with a VR headset like HTC Vive and what do you get? Total immersion or motion sickness? :)

I just bought the Oculus Rift setup, used it once for half an hour.
It's like seeing the trailer of the movie, "My trip to Mars", and you're in it. Other Worldly. Now I'm rearranging furniture in the house and trying to explain to my wife why the china cabinet should go in a closet. One of the many things on my 'to do' list is learn to fly. A Cessna first but why not Airforce One? A helicopter? Land a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier like the 'big boys' do. (43) Using G. Earth you can fly an F 16 (is that what they have?) down the grand canyon, or down to Panama.
In the future, we should be looking at pilot's licenses very closely. I might have one.

You should change navigation mode to Target Camera Mode. It's perfect for SketchUp. Try it!

Targeting the drone flying would help expand the market and also help reduce the retail price overall...Rgds...Laurie

this is very expensive already, I think they need to find some investors to make a nice bluetooth and wifi version, a bigger market means more production and lower production cost so they can lower the price and work on a evolution of the existing line of products sounds easy but it can be a real challenge, I totally agree drones for scanning or filming it's quite a big growing market, this is just the right tool for it, they may not like it but gaming is a huge market this days some publicity could increase their market quite a lot, even 3d gaming developers could be very interesting on this tools, I think this is an amazing tool I just wish they evolve and grow.

I've been using the Space Navigator for years, I forgot the contortions you have to go through without it. Maybe the best is the ability to select another tool and have it ready for when the Space Navigator gets you to the place where you'll use it. My 'puter slows a lot, sometimes crashes because it's old. The file (driver) that loads with the SpaceMouse is huge.
I'm about to move up half a decade in the video card and memory department with a new VR ready 'puter that should put that problem to bed.

I had one and I will never buy another! It's type a company which will deliberately discontinue support for older device to sell you a new one over. Keep that in mind.

    • @aeonjoey3d

wait, what did you have? several coworkers have these that are several years old, and they use them on all kinds of machines, a friend's model from 2011 still works on MacOS Catalina on his brand new MBP, same driver download as the new ones. what model did they discontinue support for?

+Minh Le the rubber dome buttons are tight and is very uncomfortable to use(as for me, I always use a full keyboard for shortcut), better way - to buy a small cheap version(like in 3d scene at video) and to 3d printing/CNC wood, a wrist rest, after all it would be a best 3d manipulator ever, try it ;)

    • @ndbiet
      @ndbiet 8 лет назад

yeah i notice all those buttons are so close to the main handle so it gotta be tight.
There are a version with more wiggle room but its alot more expensive :))

I have the much cheaper version "Spacemouse Wireless 3DX-700043" that for $110 has 95% of the most important functionality of the one shown here, namely the 3d navigation. (Shortcut buttons are nice but you can get by with Sketchup's keyboard shortcuts.) The device has fantastic build quality and for my (standing) desk setup the wireless aspect is very handy. Absolutely brilliant gadget and has made a huge difference in the usability of Sketchup on MacOS - can't imagine going back to mouse dragging and modifier keys!

Security at the airport always makes a fuss over it, so pack it on top. On their screen, it looks ominous.

I've had the 3D puck for a long time and I've actually never used it maybe I'll use it here I don't need all the buttons my mousecontrols all of that it's got 12 buttons programmable of course AND a keyboard that's programmable as well
I thought this is going to be on how to do sketches :-(

  • @AD-Dom
