How to fix 'you require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this folder' Windows 10

  • Опубликовано: 10 сен 2024
  • When i am trying to delete the Microsoft Folder in the 'Program Data'. I am getting 'Folder Access Denied' Window. You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this folder.
Solution: Delete all the usernames or groups, including SYSTEM from the security tab. Change owner as your computer user account. Also, replace owner on subcontainers and objects. Enable inheritance and then try deleting the folder. This time you can delete the folder without the error 'Folder Access Denied'. If the folder is used by any other programs, then you will get the message 'Folder In Use' The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. For such cases, close the folder or file and try again.

Windows 10's stupidness in NOT allowing people to fix drivers broken in the OS is the reason, I've been left to format my computer monthly and reinstall the OS. Might be a virus but I don't think so, I'm not being spammed any "your computer has a virus or some shit, call this number now to fix it" messages, Windows just likes taking shits on wireless Logitech mouses.

+Kloud You need to follow his steps EXACTLY. I had the same problem, make sure you are doing everything especially when it comes to the inheritance stuff.

I found a solution. Run Ubuntu off your usb. Once you do that, you'll be able to edit harddrive folders because Ubuntu doesn't care at all about NTFS permissions.

    Figured it out!
    > Right click, Properties, Security, Advanced.
    > Second line, Owner: SYSTEM Change. Click Change.
    > Enter the object name to select:
Type your username. (Can check by going to C:\Users\)
    > Click OK. If it's a folder, check the box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects."
    > Click OK.
Now under Group or user names: select your name or Everyone and click Edit and allow Full Control (uhh sorry for being vague at this part, I forgot after deleting ._.)
But then you should be able to delete!!

Had a similar problem, but instead I needed permission from myself. Within Microsoft's website, I found a recommendation to do a clean windows install - a very effective solution! I looked up other solutions and tried what this 3 year old video suggests. Deleted all permissions, re-added myself, done in few minutes. Good luck out there.

This WILL help a lot of you, I'm on windows 10 and I didn't have the Security tab on the folder so what you have to do is run the "Command Prompt" on your computer as an Administrator and then enter "REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v Nosecuritytab /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f" and then this will unlock the Security tab! You're welcome :)

If it is saying that you need permissions from yourself when trying to delete the file. Restart your computer and try to delete it again. Sometimes the program will still be running in the background, preventing you from deleting the file. The restart will close the background program and allow you to delete the file

I've been trying to delete all the files in SoftwareDistribution folder for Fast Ring Insider Preview Updates. I could not delete the DeliveryOptimization folder due to the "Folder Access Denied" issue described here. But instead of following these instruction to change ownership of the folder, I simply (after much head-scratching) went to the Properties dialog box for the C: drive, chose Disk Cleanup, and then checked off all the boxes. Don't forget to also use the System Files button to access those choices, too. MUCH simpler and safer

I get to 1:39 and I have different options because of course I do. when I click on Continue, change is greyed out. When I click on the previous change, the same window pops up with change greyed out again. I initially wanted to delete a folder, now following this video I can't even access it, it has set me BACK. I can only add to effective users which does absolutely nothing.

+troubleshooterrors You might want to consider moving the written notes from the bottom of the screen (or at least make them stand out better by increasing their contrast... or something) because at their current location, they are at least partially obscured by the RUclips video controls and the large and poorly placed 'SUBSCRIBE' button - making your suggestions difficult to read. (The 'X' that closes the 'Subscribe' button is only visible when hovering over the button itself - which I am hesitant to do since I don't even know if this one video is even helpful, so I have little if any reason to move my cursor near it.) This would be especially helpful for those of us who would like to pause your video while mimicking your recommended actions because the RUclips controls at the bottom of the screen remain in that position (that obscures your written instructions) the entire time the video is paused. They also appear (and remain AGAIN) whenever the cursor is simply hovering above the 'Play' or 'Pause' controls making it frustratingly difficult to 'Play' and 'Pause' your video at will without having to read through unnecessary junk on the screen. Your written notes are NOT obscured when viewing the video in full-screen mode, but... with the video in full-screen mode, it becomes even more cumbersome to follow your direction by aping what you do on screen because, then, the whole screen covers up what I'm trying to learn.
BTW, when I right click on my target folder and click properties, SYSTEM is NOT among any of the Group or user names. At that point, your video becomes useless to me. Probably not your fault. I blame Microsoft.
Might I suggest you find another line of work, though? Microsoft Corporation (and by proxy ALL of its products) itself is a bloated, unresponsive, oppressive, shape-shifting, resource sucking time wasting blood pressure increasing dinosaur with a really bad case of diarrhea that is - in the near future - destined to crash and burn quite spectacularly leaving those who try to swim upstream by making videos to help people in an impossible situation with very little left to make videos about.
These opinions are entirely my own, cuz if I don't state that they are just opinions, can't you just see Redmond coming after li'l old me because they blame me for the collapse that will register ~8.8 on the Richter scale? STFB

I did that crap and it still requires permission from someone even if I make myself the owner. I delete everyone and still requires permissions from its imaginary owner. smh

No matter how many times I change permission it doesn't work I also don't even see my User name to be able to change it to that so no matter who I change it do I still need SYSTEM permission.

if it still doesn't work for you, instead of deleting the whole folder, just try to delete the subfolders. I managed to clean 12 gigs to 100 kb.
