Nicholas Meregali needs some longer pants. They can't be regulation. For a guy who plays De La Riva and Spider, that is a disadvantage for his opponent who wants to grab lower on the pants.
You want the IBJJF and other BJJ hosts to make it against the rules to have gi pants shorter than a certain length? Jesus christ. Another reason why people are flocking to No Gi. Everyone who plays Gi or prefers Gi love to create problems where there are none.
@@Merovinjian "You want the IBJJF and other BJJ hosts to make it against the rules to have gi pants shorter than a certain length? Jesus christ." You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. @@luizsalles1985 no, it wasn't for the triangle attempt, but for the X-guard sweep. those are minutes apart, i can't quite see how one can be confused about it. the ref awards this advantage at around 7:10. you can also see the scoreboard. have you even watched this fight? whether the triangle attempt deserved an advantage too (which it DIDN'T get) is somewhat debatable, but Xande wasn't really forced into any reaction to this attempt. he just waited it out passively. so it didn't force him to perform any escaping action. thus it arguably doesn't qualify as an "effective attempt", because it didn't have to be "successfully defended"; just ignored, essentially.
funkyflights If by strategy, you mean take the fight down via a lazy guard pull and struggle to do anything but get a measly advantage point, due to the fact that it's very hard to finish a fight on your back against a trained opponent, then I can understand why people think it's boring. Too many jiujitsu fighters are afraid to go for a proper takedown because they don't train takedowns enough and prefer to simply roll because it's more fun for them. If they trained takedowns more often, they'd get top position more often, which vastly increases your chances of finishing the fight. Modern jiujitsu is sorely lacking in takedowns, even though it's one of the most important aspects of winning. I blame classes that always start from the knees and train the more "fun" aspects, instead of addressing weaknesses that would make the students more complete.
Do you even practice jujitsu? If you do your knowledge is severely lacking. Takedowns are not what makes jujitsu amazing; takedowns are wrestling/judo and other specialties that are incorporated and important in jujitsu but do not define it. Meregali is attacking a ton of submissions in the fight that makes this fight interesting. They are battling for inches because the second Xanda gave up the connection of his elbow to his body Meregali was shooting omaplata and triangle while always having to respect Meregali sitting up with his nasty strong loop choke attack. Extremely talented and gifted kid with one of the highest finishing rates in the sport going against an all-time great. Amazing match.
@@sotiriosnovatsis4529 "it's very hard to finish a fight on your back against a trained opponent" But it happens all the time. BJJ Matches I think Meregali would have won the decision due to his more active guard attacks and his neutralizing of Xande's pass attempts.
