Can we talk about the airplane joke that Daemon makes… “it’s a big throne with swords in it, but that’s not important right now”
Hahaha
“It’s a big chair, made of swords” might be my favorite line of the series so far.
Gwayne fought Daemon at the tournament on episode one season 1. He was introduced as Sir Otto Hightower's eldest son.
The guy was named Ulf and he was shown in the previous episode looking at the rat catchers hung on the wall. He is another character not Hugh😊
I have been watching your recaps since Night Country and Shogun. As usual, great discussion and recap.
Wait the dude looking at the ratcatchers last week was ALSO not Hugh!? Son of a
I guess him looking at the strung up ratcatchers make sense. Thinking this could be me. So do you think Ulf was telling the truth about being related to Rhaenerya? If so, how?
Not a book-reader here and I originally tried to avoid spoilers (so thank you for being non-spoilery). The mistake I made is that I watch with closed captions. In episode 2, when the random guy was talking about the rat catchers, the CC named him as “Ulf,” so I knew that that character would be more important because most minor characters with speaking roles don’t have names. I then googled Ulf, Alyn, Adam, and Hugh. I blame the CC for giving me clues, but I did the googling.
Google is a mistake!
They buried Erryk and Arryk together because they were “One soul in two bodies”
Yes they came into the world together and left the same way. From womb to tomb they're forever bonded.
The baby dragons are for the 2 youngest kids that left with Rhaena.
The eggs are not taken by anyone yet.
I don’t know the mechanics of how they get bonded but I’m pretty sure the 2 baby dragons are already bonded with the kids. They get placed next to them at birth and all that.
If you guys remember in season 1 when rhaenyra listens to marriage proposals, some kid from the blackwoods got called a c*nt and he ended up killing the guy, those 2 people were from the houses that fought each other at the beginning during the burning mill
Ohhhh snap you’re right. Awesome.
Yes alicent miss understood her aegons but Otto Hightower had long planned to usurp the throne from rhaenyra and had been speaking about it in court for years. He still would’ve made aegon king but alicent gave him a convenient excuse at the last second. He jumped at the chance to blame it all on his daughter and he was so ready for her to take the fall. AND he didn’t even believe that it even happened, he thought alicent was just making herself feel better about coming around to his plan to get their bloodline on the throne. So either way, the men in power were going to do as they pleased while allowing the women around them take the blame and the consequences.
OMG im just realizing that the lady that tells Daemon he's going to die at Harrenhal looks EXACTLY like the red priestess that comes to Daenerys in Mereen!! Also Melisandre is like 400 years old in GOT i hope we get to see her in HOTD
Nahhhh they don’t look that much alike but people do be pushing that narrative
@@OystersClamsCockles ok i rewatched it and they're not identical but very similar. According to google she's supposed to be important to the lore so we should be seeing more of her
People are saying she is a character called Alice Rivers
To clear it up for you , Joffery and his dragon are going to the Vale to foster there and the other two boys are going to Pentos with baby Aemond's dragon. Baby Visarys will hopefully bond with one of the unborn eggs
Goooot it thanks 🙏🏻
@@OystersClamsCocklesand maybe three of those eggs on Pentos end up…in the future, somewhere, with some girl. 😊
baby Aegon?
@@ronlyk6 that's who I meant damn Targaryens and their names
@@ronlyk6daemon and rhaenyra have 2 young babies named aegon and viserys
38:00 the guy pops up when the rat catchers are hung
Daemon and Rhaenyra have been married for years and years. I’m pretty sure everyone knows
Luke didn’t know about sailing either and actually got seasick when on a ship. But Corlys was in total love with Luke being the heir. It’s funny now he can’t choose but I would see him picking someone with the name to carry no matter the blood relation.
The guy from the bar wasn’t hugh it’s a character named Ulf! Hugh has a nice beard as well and is a bigger guy than Ulf
💯
i absolutely love how they’re telling the story of team black and team green through other families effected by it. the twins and how they killed each other while loving each other simply because of duty. brackens vs blackwoods representing how by the time the war is over, no one will truly know what it rooted from. was it alicent marrying viserys? the other kids bullying aemond? usurping the throne? aemond kinslaying? or shoot, Viserys letting Aemma die. by the time it’s over we won’t truly know what sparked it, just like the rivalry brackens vs blackwoods. i think it’s cool how the story is throwing itself in the targaryens faces and they won’t acknowledge it
nvm you addressed this as the literal first talking point😭 i’ll watch before i comment from now on
Perhaps the best storytelling element in this show so far
In the behind the scenes they say ... consequences is the running theme for HOTD.
I feel like the House that the Dragons built behind the scenes show is also their way of defending the fact that each season is 2 years apart. They’re like “oh you want to complain about how long it takes? Well look at this, it took 5 months just to make Aegons armor” 😂
Haha definitely
Alicent did try to bring up Heleana walking in on her and Cole in episode 2 but that was when Heleana just shoved the blanket thing for Jaehaerys at her and ignored it. She obviously had more important things on her mind. I did think the apology for Alicent was for Heleana catching her with Cole but I don't think she really cares all the much about it.
Has been confirmed that three of the four eggs you see in the scene are, in fact, Dany's eggs that turn into her three dragons.
longtime Spotify listener, made the transition to RUclips - great decision. Question for the experts:
Do we at all feel like Dameon himself wants to be King ? Ie “his grace” and hesitancy to call Rhaenyra queen
Certainly felt that way...unfortunately.
Can never not get hype to the intro song BWAAAAH BWAHHH BWAHHHH OYSTERS CLAMS AND COCKLES 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
It’s much longer on podcast platforms just FYI haha
We have seen the guy in the bar before (the one that’s not Hugh). He was the one who asked who was hanging and what they had done (when the rat catchers were hung).
My read on the Daemon Harrenhal scene where daemon refers to himself as your grace is that daemon is trying to declare himself as king and he went to the riverlands to obtain those 40k men for himself, not rhaenera, which is why the harrenhal dude was so taken back by it all. (Could be totally wrong but that was my interpretation)
I wonder if Larys will find out Alicent met with rhaenyra 👀👀👀
I feel like Alicent will confess to someone about the mistake she made and that will definitely get back to Larys.
Laenor is still alive somewhere and that’s why Seasmoke is starting to get lonely/anxious, I wonder if someone that doesn’t know he’s still alive is going to try to claim him and it’s going to go sideways somehow, or if Laenor will come back
Yeah it’s almost like he can tell Laenor is still out there somewhere and it’s making him crazy
I was thinking the same thing
We are so back
We’ve never been more back
I listen to a quite a few of these podcasts thru the week but you guys always seem to come up with some new takes that build the world. Like Cole's chain of hands inlay from Jaxxon chains as I understand.
Hahaha
Great episode. One thing though - the meeting didn’t occur in the Great Sept of Baelor. Baelor was not king until after all these events happened and the sept in his name wasn’t completed until after his death. Ugh. I just became that guy. 🤦♂️
Ohhhh word? Cool detail actually. Thanks!
@@OystersClamsCocklesanytime. Love the podcast. It’s the only podcast I listen too. Long live the Clam.
I really enjoyed Barrett’s take this episode. Had me laughing all morning 😂
😂😂😂
Sir Gwayne was in the tourney episode, Season 1
Did they show his face or did he have a helm on the whole time?
@@OystersClamsCockles Mostly a helmet and def a different actor. Starts at around 45:45, Season 1, Epi 1.
In season one they brought up the boarder dispute of the Blackwoods and Brakens at the small counsel. I thought that was a good tie in.
You’re absolutely right. Great tie in.
I wonder if we'll get to see that lil boy suitor to Rhaenyra all grown up now? No doubt he'll be a fierce warrior.
One great thing about HOTD on Max is that book readers are not always right cuz things like Leanor's death did not happen in the Max version. I feel like the producers know book readers are out there and so they change things up. For the best, I think.
Thank the gods because book readers are being absolutely awful about this show
@@OystersClamsCockles I barely take time to read menus. Let alone huge novels that get made on tv. But these "book readers" are becoming so notoriously obnoxious with their spoiler-ridden posts. That a backlash the size of Vaeghar's farts will follow them wherever they appear.
Thanks, boys. Great listen as always.
Thanks for being here
I know you guys were joking around and I laughed with you but I am also really, really hating how the conflict boils down to a misunderstanding over which Aegon was being referenced. I know the Greens had a contingency plan to seize the throne after Viserys died but I don't like how the spark is the misunderstanding of sick, medicated old man. It just cheapens the drama for me. I hate that trope as it is used to death in other shows.
The sept scene is really damaging my respect for this season so far. Olivia Cooke and Emma D'arcy acted the hell out of it and I give them all the props for it. However, the writing contrivances to get there really bring back the PTSD of end season Game of Thrones. I know security can't cover everything but how easy is it to sneak in to King's Landing at this point? I would have thought that between Larys and Otto the vast majority of Mysaria's contacts would have been killed. Larys has purged the servants twice at this point I think. Both women claim that they want to avoid a war to avoid the slaughter. Rhaenyra can do this by withdrawing her claim to the throne. Alicent gave her that out with generous terms but she refused. She can't have it both ways and it seems like no on is calling her out for this. Both sides have lost a son in horrifying fashion and I can't imagine any message from Alicent no matter how sincere sounding would be believed.
The random guy in this ep stole an apple in front of the rat catcher hangings in ep 2
Great pod. Thanks
Rhaenys is actually supposed to be 55. Not quite in her 60s. 😁
This was a GREAT episode, I mean of your recap & review guys. Kudos!
Much appreciated
I would note the online book readers have gotten some characters wrong, so sometimes their spoilers are disappointing the episodes... so good on ya'll not reading the books!
You know, maybe Christian Cole is Helena and the kid's bodyguard and someone else is Allicent's bodyguard, who is standing outside of her room. Maybe Allicent lures Christian Cole from his post leaving the babes unguarded. She knows Helena won't tell on her. But look at the outcome. It may well be Allicent's fault.
Time for another listen to the greatest HotD podcast in the realm!
Many thanks, your grace.
Idk how to say this any other way but the chick who told daemon he'd die in harenhall sounded a lot like the Natalie Portman's sidekick from the first thor movie
So random
I figured Criston cut his hair bc he was preparing to go to war. Shorter hair is better in a fight and for maintenance on the road.
Loved the pod
Respect
I believe Otto mentions Gwayne in episode 2 ?
Apparently he was at the tourney in season 1 as well
Been waiting for this podcast all day. Ps how bout them Astros!! 🤘🏽🤘🏽
New @BangingTheCan tomorrow afternoon player
Corlys is stalling to name and heir because he knows Alyn knows seafaring inside out, is his son and maybe can fly a dragon? Does the white hair mean you fly dragons? According to the book, families from Old Valeria had dragons.
Had a dream last night I met you guys :(
Never stop chasing your dreams
Great episode as always!
The guy in the bar is the same guy who asked who were the men that were hung ....and the lady responds they are all rat catchers.
You are correct
Within book canon Hugh and Ulf (Targaryen bastard) become players in the war similarly to Alyn and Addam
(Googled so damn much)
GRRM also confirmed on X/Twitter the only two timelines are the book and the TV show, so anything can and will happen.
I've had so much spoiled for me for this show already from the book readers. I never remember it being this bad with GoT. At least the reddit has 2 separate posts for book/no book spoilers. I find it a little silly ppl think it's ok bc the book has been out so long.
Book readers are being REAL a**holes about this. It's completely unacceptable.
Corlys being so upset about Joffrey being the heir to Driftmark doesn’t make much sense to me.
He was full-throated in his support of Lucerys despite the fact that Lucerys was a child at the time. What changed?
Absolutely no idea. That was weird.
Corlys had a relationship with Lucerys, he affirms that during the funeral episode in season 1, and Luke was going to marry Rhaena. That was the deal in the throne room scene in season 1. Now that Luke is dead that plan is gone and Joffrey is a little kid and doesn’t have that same emotional tie to Corlys. Luke loved his grandfather….that was my take..
Literally haunted
mood striked me pretty early here
Not down for that baby killin but Team Black dawg lesssgooo
What happened to the episode 4 review?
Disregard, glitch in the matrix
The Burning Mill aftermath scene reminded me of the Gone With The Wind scene of the iconic overview of wounded Southern soldiers in Atlanta. Y’all are too young to get that reference I am sure.
Ironically that movie is why I named my son what I named my son hahaha -Ross
@@OystersClamsCocklesAwww
That certainly was Hugh who said he was a Targaryen. C'mon guys, pay attention. :P
Hahaha I was so confused -Ross
No it wasn’t hugh that guys name is Ulf who brought up “dragonseeds”, that’s all I will say with out spoiling anything
Hugh has a beard and long grey hair. Ulf doesn't have a beard and long grey hair.
Hugh is the smith who asked Aegon to pay for the iron for the scorpions.
Ulf is the food thief who was at the rat catcher's hanging.
Both Hugh and Ulf are dragonseeds, but only Ulf has bragged about it so far.
@@OystersClamsCocklesI think his name is Ulf
@@liamdamon Ah that was my mistake, then! I knew Hugh was dragonseed and thought they looked similar enough. Didn't know there was yet another! Sorry for the false correction lol
I enjoyed the episode other then the end. That whole scene felt rushed and lazy. The conversation didn't feel natural. Almost nothing happen other then Alicent knows who Visersy was talking about. Which is nice but it didn't feel organic. It was a bit comical. Like a light bulb was above Alicent.
It's not Hugh. It was the same guy who was showed up at the hanging.
Yeah I apparently just think everyone is Hugh. -Ross
Lol. I thought it was Hugh too but he looked waaayyyy bummier which is how I realized.@@OystersClamsCockles
@@OystersClamsCockles his name is Ulf...they're setting his character up like Hugh.
