I think one thing you should of brought up about Osaka is that you can see improvement in gameplay with 0.2. If that's what was suppose to be in 3, then you can guess that's what 3's gameplay will be like. They even went back and listened to feedback(possibly). While they aren't Tokyo, I still think with the time that they're taking, they'll be able to get the feel of 1 and 2 down. It may not be the exact same in 0.2, but you can tell they're on the right track and deserve some kudos for it.
+Soraalam1 I have to correct you there from the vid. I have been waiting for KH3 since KH2, but it wasn't like I been dying for it. if anything I like this long wait it gives them time to make it right. take all the time you need square.
I have a giant smile on my face because these have always been my thoughts exactly. There are even long time fans of the series who have the mind set of "WE WANT KH3 NOW" while instead they (as well as the casual fans) should just take one more look at the things in front of them. For those who keep hounding Square, please take a step back and chill out. If you aren't blinded by your ignorance and take into effect what was said in this video, we can make for a much better community.(or continue to be ignorant, but in that case just keep it to yourselves please) Fantastic work as always Dean :)
the community is really worrying me actually you could say it is worrying me a little TOO much. Seeing Nomura's comments on KH3 saying "KH3 info is Unknown" makes me think they are not showing anything this E3 and that REALLY worries me considering how the community is acting. I just hope Nomura shows at least 1 trailer this E3 or else a lot of KH fans will most likely just give up on KH3.
I dont think they will. Every time ANYTHING kh3 is even whispered about, people are acting as if WW3 is going on. no matter how long they take, i believe the people who keep hounding square will be here.
Kingdom Hearts games like in the series is Kingdom Hearts itself. It gave people light they bathed in it. But they wanted more and more. When offer smaller fragments of the light they refused they wanted the main source being Kingdom Hearts III. This lead them to a path of darkness as we see in comments.
Christopher .Cruse yo I would agree with that and all but I can’t help that KH2 is still the best game after all these years because Nomura preferred to experiment with the *coughdarknesscough* handhelds and the drop in quality, like Dean had said in this video. I love this series but damn has the gameplay suffered to the point that people are scared for this gameplay, but they’re doing good, it seems to be beyond better than anything Osaka team has touched before, 0.2 was good, a step in the right direction for sure and it seems that 3 will be fine.
Amazing vid, Dean. I've felt this way for a while. Since D23, where I could recognize how people could be pissed about the lack of news (myself included), it's come to feel like all the outrage over lack of news should have ended. People need to stop anticipating the next biggest reveal 24/7. And there will always be outrage, because there will always be people who aren't satisfied. There was a big divide in the "winter news" situation, where many felt interviews and screenshots were enough for "winter news," while most of the people who complained, did so because there was no trailer. Square never hinted at a trailer in any way, so expectations were blown out of proportion. I think it's at a point where everyone needs to step back and let news happen when it's ready to happen, rather than always expecting more announcements. When a new trailer or announcement comes, get hyped. But don't be hyped all the time when you don't know what to expect, because you will only be let down when it doesn't live up to your hype.
Yes! thank you! I have the same thought as well. gamersjoint I believe is Part of the problem and overhype news and do speculation vids about them. he's fans (not all of them) and people whos watching him will expect too much and get dissappointed.
Not making any mentions here, but unfortunately there are several other RUclipsrs that do that sort of hype and I know of one in particular. I can't speak for any of the DS games but to call some of them trash is, within his own right yes, but unnecessary. In terms of lore 358/2 makes sense because Roxas needed a backstory. As for the KH3 hype, I agree with Dean in every way. Well done, I applaud you
"Upcoming announcementS this winter" That message in particular was put at the end of a trailer for 2.8. Square knew exactly that by puting it there people would build up some pretty big expectations. Big as a trailer? Not necessarily. But certainly bigger than a screenshot that didn't reveal a significant amount of new information. The group that complains ALOT complained about it. Other people who seldomly complained about KH3 were sparked by the lack of winter news and thus complained about it too. It was a bad move on Squares part. I know this. A lot of KH fans know this. Even Square knows this.
ventusvanitas11 Okay, you can get over it now. Square fucked up one time. Do I even need to count how many times this community has shown it's cancer throughout the years? Even if there was big enough news like a trailer, you'd still haves idiots crying about no release date and continuing to complain anyway. Stop pretending like this news they promised is the holy Grail, it wouldn't change how the fanbase would act.
Hey, so I only got into this kingdom hearts recently, so this video actually told me a lot of stuff I didn't know. I'd only really heard about KH3 hype from people who acted like it had been delayed for ten years or whatever, and I didn't realise there was another story to that... guess I should have looked into it more. Anyway- thanks for making this video, and informing us ignorant newbs about the facts :)
thank you for commenting. because you are the type of viewer we really want to reach! i encourage you to share this video as much as possible. welcome to Kingdom Hearts. hope you're enjoying the ride! :) -blufox24
About them re-doing models from scratch, what I think Nomura meant is that they can no longer use the ones they made throughout KH1, 2 and BBS which they were re-using with all the games being on the same engine since KH1 basically. So they're makng brand new models and assets from scratch suited for current gen tech
That would be refreshing. The models beforehand seemed to be taken from the CG versions, as you can tell with the in development Riku missing stripes just as CG Riku missed blue stripes on his outfit, and I swore Nomura said before that the models for these games were taken from CG models but I can't bother to find it, or know if I even will. But the Riku similarity definitely points at them using the CG models from the older works. If it was all new models, then that's cool too, and means they aren't "remaking", but that's not the message I really got when reading the interview.
Soraalam1 I also remember an interview with Yasue where he mentioned that despite shifting to UE4, the assets they created on Luminous weren't lost and have been ported over. But that was at the time when Nomura just stepped down as FFXV director, so can't say for sure how relevant it is to the topic
I don't think I even need to add anything. You spoke everything perfectly. No extra, unnecessary sentences and no important aspects/topics missed. This video spoke what needed to be said and heard perfectly in a brilliant manner. I agree completely with everything you said (except for the quality of the handheld games as, while I do agree that I don't think they're as good as KH2's, as long as I'm having fun, I don't really care about the balance or quality). There are just too many people who blame Square for things they shouldn't be blamed for; they overhype themselves and expect too much. Back in December, people were mad at Square for not releasing any KH3 news in Jump Festa... when Square never stated anything about the event. All they had stated at the time was that KH3 news/announcements would release in Winter (not December, but Winter, giving us two more months) and that they would release AFTER 2.8, which hadn't been released at the time. I'm not even mad that we didn't get any news this Winter. Why? Cause I got other KH stuff to fill that gap: 2.8 and Union Cross. When Winter was over and people were commenting about it, my reaction was, "Oh yeah, the Winter news was a thing. Nothing came out. Oh well." My mind was so preoccupied about the other two games that KH3 was simply not something I was thinking about. And even then, we technically got 'news' when the Drive Forms screenshots were released; confirming a MAJOR gameplay element from KH2 to return in KH3. To me, KH3 is about the equivalent of Avengers Infinity War for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We know it's coming, but there are other films to fill the gap between now and that film. I'm really excited to see Infinity War, but it's not the only thing to be excited about; I have these other films in between to enjoy watching, so that I'm introduced to new characters, see their origin and adventure while also building up towards this finale or, just like KH3, the end of a saga. Kingdom Hearts 3 is just like that; a final chapter that we can't just jump into. We need things to build up to it. Nomura has stated that KH3's story is huge. How huge is it? He wanted to remove 0.2 from it (and I think I remember hearing that DDD was going to also be a part of KH3 but I'll have to research on that to be sure). It would be a little weird to introduce new characters in a final chapter of a saga and that's what Union Cross is doing; it's introducing new characters that *could* make an appearance in KH3 while also introducing plot elements and concepts that will have great importance in KH3. The same can kind of be said for KH1 and KH2. We had COM in between. It helped bridge the gap between 1 and 2 to help introduce new characters and concepts while also building up to KH2. Yes, while the gap between 2 and 3 is MUCH bigger, it's a good thing in a way as it makes the buildup even bigger and sets KH3 to be a much bigger finale. The KH3 buildup started with the end of BBS when the words, "Reconnect, KINGDOM HEARTS" appears; that's what it means every time we see those words; they always appear right after something that would buildup towards KH3. 2.8 shows us that we're at the final steps before KH3. I mean come on, there's "Prologue" in the title. We're right behind the door. We just need to be patient. We're almost there.
There is a valid point of wanting a continuation of the story if you consider a lot people have some fan favorite character's who haven't had a continuation to their story since their featured games. I started off with 358/2 days, so I got fairly attached to axel, xion, and roxas, and the 1.5 cinematic experience was even more emotional, as the cut scenes were done rather well. DDD had very little to do with those three, and axel's character is more similar to his KH2 persona than the 358/2, and he only had a few scenes in that entire game. Namine is another character whose story still needs to be resolved, and then there is also the bbs trio. There was a seven year gap between bbs in 2010 to 0.2 in 2017, and even then the story did not really conclude at all, or feel like it did. Each kingdom heart game usually has its own tones and important characters, and even if the game play is good and consistent, the fact that the stories are not connected throughout the games, and that most of the kh games have really depressing endings, or at the very least endings that scream a continuation, so it is a bit disappointing when the next game released does not follow up on the ending of the previous one, as the first three did. In this regard DDD was successful in providing the answer to the cliff hanger in recoded, but the letter in a bottle came from kh2's ending, which was six years prior. While such time periods for waits are not uncommon in video games of this genera, the difference with KH is that there was always a lot of implication that the story was not finished. Kh1 had riku in the realm of darkness and sora separated from kairi, chain of memories, sora is asleep in a pod, kh2 message in the bottle, bbs, message in the bottle, the three heros are all screwed over, days, the main characters all get screwed over, coded, message written then delivered in a bottle. My point is that while each entry functions as a game well individually, the story does not, and having to wait 7 years for a continuation of a story is typically difficult for most people.
Many have the misconception that switching engines is like moving from one house to another. Just take everything from House 1 and move it over to House 2. Simple, right? It's actually more like tearing down House 1 to make House 2. Switching engines means starting from scratch in most cases, so i can imagine it did a lot more than just hinder KH3's development. If only more people understood.
Didn't the same happen to XV? They didn't switch engine, but they scrapped most of Versus XIII's concepts, basically starting over from scratch then took 4 more years to release XV.
+Kingdom080500 They did, from Crystal Tools to Luminous Studio. Even if they didn't, I think switching from PS3 to PS4 and Xbox One also requires much work to be done. Not to mention the entire development team was reshuffled as well. Technically, it's a new game created mostly from scratch, other than retaining some concepts and most of the characters (some character designs were changed).
The lack of information in development tells me they're more hard at work then focused on telling us everything that is happening. I'm fine with getting a trailer every other year tbh. I have every bit of faith in this team that they will deliver.
If you want kh3 to be as good as soraalam's videos , you have to know that Dean doesn't rush them, and when they come out you know there are going to be good, kh3 needs to be like that .
KH3 WILL be like that. Screw the bitchy casuals squealing for momma square enix to give them their KH3 milk bottle. I am going to be so pissed if they actually let the whining pressure them into releasing the game sooner than necessary. I do not need another Sonic 06 in my life. That game almost killed the entire series and now it's slowly limping its way back to health.
No It's not. There are 9 games out but 3 comes out hopefully soon. They all have different mames but there isn't even a release date for Kingdom Hearts 3. Not one that I've heard of atleast.
Me, hyped for KH3? Kinda, but I've been to f*cking busy replaying KH1, ReCom, KH2, BBS, the original DDD, speedrunning KH1, doing the Level 1 challenge in KH2, all of that while playing other games in-between. I haven't even bought 2.8. I can say NOW that I'm waiting for 3. And still, not really, I have other games on my sight right now. If you're one of the guys who says it's been waiting since 2006, you should either play some other games, or you haven't played the whole saga yet.
I don't care that we still don't have a release date, I just wish square would communicate more with the fans. I get that a lot of stuff has been going on and that may be why we didn't get Kingdom Hearts 3 news in the winter has promised. What I would like is for Square to come out and state why there was no news. Just communicating with fans will help with a lot of the worries I believe.
"state why there was no news" Nomura literally had an interview back in January stating that 3 and 7R still have a long way to go. That's the point where you should expect little announcements. That interview was open to the public, so it's the fanbase's fault yet again for overhyping themselves. In other news, the sky is blue.
I'm still baffled at how so many fans get riled up at the "unnecessary" sidegames causing the "delay" of KH3. Like come on, whining like a child isn't going to get a corporation to listen to you. Sit your ass down and play some 0.2. Awesome video, Dean, totally summarised what I've been thinking for a long time.
At first, I didn't notice that Osaka made the games a little more slower paced, but now that I notice, KH 1 and 2 were pretty fast paced. Still love Osaka doe
0.2 was a verrry smart idea. Release a 'demo' of KH3, so the fans can comment on things, combat and platforming mechanics, lip-sync etc... to see what people like and dislike to be able to make some changes for KH3. If done well on their part, we have actually already playtested KH3.
Correction to 21:28 in that recent issue of Famitsu from 2 weeks ago Nomura did NOT SAY the timing for the next KH3 reveal/showing is unknown. That was a misunderstanding from when that KH 15th anniversary Famitsu issue first leaked online and the Japanese blog that leaked the issue basically said at the end of a tiny summary of Nomura's interview/the issue's contents in Japanese "there's still no news of when KH3 will next be shown". In other words Nomura didn't say anything about the next showing, the blog just said that there was no news about it. Nomura's comments in the issue are almost entirely just responding to Famitsu's survey. This is the full translation of Nomura's comments about KH3 from that Famitsu issue by KHInsider "In regards to KH3, being the 15th year anniversary, the tension is steadily rising so, to fans, we thank you for your patience and ask for your continual support as we work hard toward our mutual goal." www.khinsider.com/news/Nomura-s-comments-on-Famitsu-KH15-anniversary-survey-results-9059 Nothing about how the timing of KH3's next showing is unknown. Unfortunately this misinterpretation of a comment by a blog accompanying the initial leak of Famitsu spread throughout the internet... Nomura said weeks ago KH3 will get new information at an upcoming concert so it wouldn't make sense anyway if he were to say now it's unknown.
The primary reason surrounding the KH3 hype train is a mainstream title returning to console. Many didn't like the handheld games like BBS or DDD hence why they aren't familiar with them to begin with. With KH3 the game is finally coming back to a mainstream system like PS4 with the old battle system everyone is familiar with from KH1 and KH2
Why do you assume the Switch will get a release? Yes, Square will be making games for the Switch, but why KH3 specifically? I rather they focus dev time on the obvious intended version of the game, the PS4 version, to be finished before they even think about porting it to anything else. You also said "back to mainstream systems" when PS2 was the only console that KH was on.
Kingdom080500 Back then many games were mostly exclusive to the PlayStation 2, but in the next generation, many of those games came out multiplatform. True, the PlayStation 4 is considered by many as a "mainstream platform" to which many games are mostly developed with the PS4 in mind, but it doesn't give it the excuse to leave many other gaming platforms excluded from said games.
Soraalam1, I agree with you 100%! I may foam at the mouth every time something new comes out for KH3. But if they can come out with the quality of KH2FM again, I can wait till 2020 for this game to come out.
Okay, this video will be shared in any KH video I can find. Dean, you are amazing. Thank you so much for this fantastic video which describes all the worries I habe for KH3. Thank you, thank you, thank you
I like the amount of effort and thought you out into this video. A lot of my friends ask, "Why isn't kingdom hearts 3 out yet" but now I know just to show em this video. No joke, I learned a lot about the games and development in this one 30minute session then on any forum, chat I've ever gone to. I really appreciate the info dude. Keep up the great videos!
I get your point, I'm one of those who want to know the release date as soon as possible. But man, if I could have some news about how development is going every now and then without having to check translated interviews with Nomura that dont really say anything I wouldnt be so hungry for KH3 news. Cause lets be fair, since 2015's E3 with the new UE4 trailer weve had... what? 3 images about KH3? Its just not enough.
Thank you so much, Dean. You and HMK are my favorite X-Keepers. Tied for #1, because I see you both as the more patient members of this community This video is so beautifully made and your points were so well spoken and articulate. I don't think I need to add anything else here. You covered everything so beautifully, my friend.
Thanks for the insight! It's good to hear clearly how development has been going. You definitely taught me a few things and makes me feel a lot better and a lot easier to be more patient. For me, who played the non main numbered games, and was a HUGE fan at a young age (I used to wake up at 4:30-5 am so I could play kh2 before school when I was 12), after playing the "non main" games and feeling the difference, the lack of polish you mention, the dissapointment crushed me and almost killed the series for me as a whole. Luckily I'm older and wiser now and a lot more patient and understanding of the series flaws and how long it's taking to develop kh3 (tho I'm not gonna lie, I do enjoy the jokes, as long as they're light hearted in nature). At this point I'm definitely willing to wait a few more years so they can take all the time they need to make the game great. Good luck to the development team!!
I 1000% agree. I've felt like this for awhile. And I find it very annoying when people are very ignorant about KH3 releasing! For example "WHERE IS KH3 WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THIS" And people say the games in between don't matter. I find it very annoying. And when square enix revealed that avengers game people bombarded their twitter saying "This isn't KH3!!". To me it's extremely sad and annoying. I can understand the wait but people are just getting ignorant about this. Also the one biggest issue with me is "I've waited over 10 years for KH3". So I deeply agree with this video, great job Dean. I hope to see more videos from you in the future :)
Very concise video! well organized, and I enjoyed reading the interviews I never saw. you're absolutely right about rushing KH 3 being a HUGE mistake, but hopefully there will be a lot more true fans supporting the team. in my opinion, the casuals aren't even on the radar lol. let's hope that's true with the devo team... may your heart be your guiding key.
This made me even MORE patient regarding KH3 as I actually got important information I missed AND was given perspective. Amazing video. It makes me notice that KH3 is a very hard to make due to the circumstances the development team has. Thank you.
Damn Dean, you knocked it out of the park. I get so frustrated when people say they have been waiting for kh3 for since kh2 and say it is never going to come out and the people who are demanding a release date, i have to talk with those people in a weekly basis too. Knowing that fans like you are around gives me strenght. Thanks alot for this video man
As both a big fan of Square as a whole, and someone who is in school for animation in video games, words can't describe how glad I am that you've made this video. There are RUclipsrs in the KH community that I had to unsub from for a while because I got sick of listening to them moan about KH updates that never came. I'm also glad you're encouraging everyone to relax, since the longer production time means more time is going into the game. People give Square too much hassle over something that benefits the game as a whole. Everyone whined about FFXV's delays, and they're doing the same here. I don't know, I just wish everyone would chill and take it as a sign of dedication and determination for this to live up to the hype. Like a lot of the community, I can't wait to hear more information about the game, more so to play it for myself. More than anything, I want them to take their time and ensure to themselves and all of us that the wait (the actual wait, not since KHII) has been worth it. Again man, thanks for making this video!
Awesome video Dean, I love your thoughtful approach to this topic. I agree that this "age of waiting" has been super fortunate. I never bought a game boy or PSP to play BBS or DDD. Now, I can play them all on playstation and it's awesome getting the full story in addition to all the new content on Final Mix, and it's all in one place. I enjoyed KH1 and KH2 as a kid, but getting to play some of the "smaller" games is a nice consolation prize waiting for the immortal KH3. I'm still working through 100% completion on my FM original faves and exploring BBS, 365/2, Re:Coded, and DDD for the first time.
im in the camp that says we've been waiting 13 years for kh3. however, i still play and enjoy every single other kingdom hearts game (except v cast, but that one doesnt count anyway). and count them all to be very important to the lore, except for recoded but i still really like recoded. see the reason we've wanted kh3 over these other games is the gameplay. kh1 and kh2 used the menu system, which gave you access to all of your battle options so you can adapt to any situation. while other games used cards, command decks, medals, a half-assed menu system in the case of 358 days over 2, command deck with a stupid drop guage, etc. while none of these are exactly BAD, i did enjoy every single one of these non-numbered games a great deal, i just dont find them to be as fun or free as the traditional battle system. kh3 is finally a return to form, a return to that natural-feeling style of combat that so many of us prefer that we haven't got since kh2. thats why i like 0.2 so much despite being so short. it returns to form. so in a way, YES, we HAVE been waiting since kh2.
You're taking me back to when I was a kid who thought the three armored figures were SRK. It's insane some people are still stuck in that mindset years later.
Thank you Dean! You've changed how I feel about KH3. I wanted the game out NOW, but now I see it needs more time. I didn't realize how much incompetence was going on behind the scenes. The Osaka team have no idea what they're doing, so we should give them as much time as they need.
Great Video, Great editing, Great explaining. Now I understand a lot more (Also this is Sorafromkh). I'm actually sick today so laying down and watching this was great. I am enjoying your content a lot. Keep it up! I actually feel kinda bad for Tetsuya and the team now haha
so just subscribed your KH2.5 moshroom 13 video's helped a lot and they were very well done. excellent videos man. BUT, I have played every KH game and still very very very much want KH3. I get why it's taking so long but it doesn't mean the wait doesn't suck.
Being in a similar boat, I have to still say after finishing this, I actually feel bit more thankful with the wait (such as if they wanted to start from scratch). KH3 does deserve all the love and care it deserves, so I do hope they make sure they "do what they gotta' do" (to mold just right & not rush). Besides, i'm sure it'll just be that much more exciting when we do get an official release. Because once "3" passes, there's probably going to be a lot that wish they could go back in time lol now's actually a good time to take advantage of. Thanks for the genuine effort (:
This video goes very well as a sort of 'one side of the same coin' situation with Frustrated Jacob's "Final Fantasy XV and the Marketing Campaign of Doom" if anyone wanted to know the ins and outs of square enix from the past 10 years. Great job!
You forgot to tell about the ending of KH3D when they leave a message "It all ends with KH3". So that was kinda a confirmation before the E3 announcement.
Flowmotion, that's all I want. *Flowmotion* it was an *Epic* way to get around instead of Running, or Dodge Rolling. They Should *Totally* bring it back!!
I am always the one thinking that players should give the developers more respect and credit because we as fans dont really have the rights to overly complain about games because we dont know whats going on in the industry. Thanks dean for this video,I'll link it to everyone it needs to reach.
I'm so glad you posted about this, all I care is about an amazing that I get play in the upcoming years. As long as they post something like picture of what's going in development I don't care.
This reminds me of your video with LimitForm72 about the community and hopefully we get a release window at E3. After seeing this one and the one with Limit, I do feel bad for Nomura and the development team because of the pressure they're under. I want Kingdom Hearts 3 to blow 2 outta the water, so patience is a virtue and with misguided people being the vocal minority, I fear Kingdom Hearts 3 won't live up to the expectations we put have for it. Our expectations are too high and we're too impatient. I wish that people would understand the workings and pressure can harm the quality and production of the game, and the inexperienced Osaka Team. I think 2.8 and 1.5+2.5, which I'm saving for my birthday next Friday, are them finding their footing and after that, I do believe that they're getting better and finding that footing. Does that make sense, Dean? Sorry for the long comment, I just wanted to let you know that I wholeheartedly agree with you and the points you made in this video.
Nice video Dean! I got to say, after playing 1.5 + 2.5 my status on DDD being my favorite game has changed. Now I kinda don't? I mean, DDD is my favorite for story, but KH2 is my favorite for gameplay. Kinda bizarre... Hehe. Either way, the patience for KH3 is real, although I can't say my patience is STARTING is get a LITTLE broken down, I am willing to try and keep it built up strong! WooHoo! Anyway, great video! :)
In regards to why we didn't get any new KH3 trailer this winter or for the 15th Anniversary date like many fans anticipated, I believe during their livestream of 1.5 + 2.5 a few weeks ago, the product manager Kaori Takasue said something along the lines of it was because they've been preoccupied promoting Union X. I guess the promotion for 1.5 + 2.5 also factored into this. I also think Square really just wants to wait until E3 to seriously promote KH3 more at this point.
Glad I watched the whole video, I'm not a sub but I am a big time Kingdom Hearts fan, but like you said, due to my initial age I was there was a lot of info I missed out on. So thank you for giving me this info! Also 100% agree with wanting them to take their time! We have so much KH to replay through to keep us entertained while they do their best to make a great game!
I know that it takes time for a game of this size and ambition to come together in the right way. BUT I still criticize Square-Enix's marketing around KH3. They NEED to show something other than screenshots. After the 2015-trailer, 2 years ago, we needed something to keep the flame alive, something to hold us over until they are ready to show us more. That something was KH 2.8, and while that WAS good and fun and gave us something to look forward to, it really only served to make the non-existence of KH3 news that much worse. They NEED to start "selling" the game, even if it's still far away, that doesn't matter! We need SOMETHING tangible! A predicted year of release, more screens, talks about concepts, a proper trailer or just a teaser. THIS is the current problem in my eyes. Not the "casuals" screaming after KH3 and harrassing Square about it. Not the fact that it has taken them a long time to develop the game. But rather it's that they haven't reassured us of anything (outside of interviews) about the stability and progress of the development process. We're left TOO much in the dark, so much so that it creates confusion and anger among the community. Simply put: We feel left out. It's like Square is doodling a picture and you wanna see! but Square is all "NO! IT'S NOT DONE! DON'T LOOK!" ... and that attitude is losing us. This is not our fault. This is on Square, Disney and Nomura for "protecting" their brand, at the cost of no information for the people it's being made for. It's bad business.
Thank you. This is one of the most intelligent well-thought out and honest video's I've seen on the current state of Kingdom Hearts 3 and I echo your sentiment. Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming. We have a bounty of riches to keep us entertained with the PS4 ports until the day the Seeker of Darkness Saga ends. Name me one other game in the history of gaming that is afforded such luxuries as having a FULL SERIES port to next gen ? There's not many if any. Square, take your time. Make it the best entry in the series. And let the Xehanort Saga go out all guns blazing.
great video, this is what i needed to hear. I played KH2 waaay back in 2006 and saw the birth by sleep secret ending and got crazy expecting KH3 to be released soon. We all know KH3 was gonna be released someday but we just say: "Yeah, we've been waiting like 10 years for this game." I really prefer Square takes their time and release a great game, than a shitty game with dlc later in the future.
Ferno Mu biggest fear with this game is that SE could, as Dean mentions in the video, go the way of Sega and rush KH3 into stores without it being finished. Granted, Sega's gotten quite a bit better since Sonic 06, but the point remains that SE could still royally screw themselves if they aren't careful.
WhOAAA this was an amazing video, Dean! HUGE APPLAUSE FOR U 👏👏👏 Amazing work as always!! Keep it up! Patience doesn't exist in people. People should stop being on edge, waiting for more KH3 news to come up into the air. There are games out for people to enjoy while waiting for the news to be ready. When people expect too much, they hold on to that and when SE releases any news about KH3 and it isn't what fans expect, there is nothing but rage about how it wasn't what they thought it was and that's the problem. People expect too much and everything gets blown to bits. Also I agree with how KH3's reveal in 2015 was the true reveal because of how "new" it looked compared to 2013's reveal. And complaining about lighting....yes lighting was pretty "eh" in some parts but lighting is really difficult to master especially when SE has never really worked on it before. When it comes to lighting, you can't just "guess" where the shadows and light source comes from. You have to actually study it and when I mean study, you study it THOROUGHLY. I cannot stress that enough. But from what we've seen in 0.2, SE got there real quick like from the progress that we've seen about 0.2's models, it's just amazing but SE thinks it stills needs work??? What???? WELL THEN GO AHEAD SE. WE'RE READY FOR MORE GORGEOUSNESS. But back to KH3. People have to stop living off of how much news is getting put out there. It's not your whole life (hell I'll admit, I would always check KH13 and KHInsider's web for new KH3 news EVERY SINGLE DAY...) and there is 1.5 + 2.5 which contains KH1, KHCOM, KH2, KHBBS (Which are all FULL games) and movies to watch and keep everyone company but some people think it's still not enough. Everyone also has to understand that SE has so much things on their mind as they are working on KH3 and for poor Nomura to direct both FFVII Remake and KH3...that's just constant pressure from not only the company but from fans outside, especially the die hard fans. From an artist's perspective, things like this takes time and we don't just magically poof these things out of thin air. It's stressful there is constant worry over if people will not like what we create. It's not laziness. It's just difficulty. SE are not robots who can make these things quick because for SE to be switching over to a new engine, rework models, rework environments, etc., it's NOT EASY for them. People have been separated from the community because of all this backlash against SE and that's really sad to see. Maybe if we just go away from this "I WANT KH3 NOW! WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG!" to this instead "Square Enix is doing an amazing job. Keep it up," then maybe the community will be much happier than this negativity. So people need to just pause, take a step back, and let SE do their job the way they want to. If no news is shown soon, that's ok! The "right time" for news isn't now. We have to be patient and we gotta let SE breathe because this constant pressure for two of the most anticipated games is probably driving them crazy. Just let it go for now and when they're ready, they will be ready! Also "KH3 has been in development for more than 10 years!!! ahhhh!!!" No. It was announced in 2013. We've been waiting 4 years. Not 10. Calm down.
An awesome video Dean! Really shows the development and I love the detail you put into it. I love the series and Square will release the game when they're ready. At least I'll get to replay the series on PS4 and finally get to play 0.2 for the first time.
I actually still haven't played 2.8 and probably won't until the price goes down a bit so I still have game to tide me over. Also, I love your videos, Dean! You're my favorite Kingdom Hearts RUclipsr alongside EverGlow. Hope you're doing well!!
Keeping all this news in mind, a late 2018 reveal still wouldn't be that surprising. Maybe even early 2019. If you consider the first true trailer to have taken place in 2015, then a release around this time definitely seems feasible if you ask me.
Nice video. I think one simple way to solve this ordeal would be to make the development cycle more transparent. KH3 developers should have things like the Active Time Report from FF XV's development, and more information on the development in general. I felt like the transparency from FF XV's team was a welcomed change to the way Square usually handles things. Either way, I just want them to take their time.
Holy shit dean... wow you just changed my thoughts on this games development.. you made it seem like kh3 is just starting out... like i knew most of these things but now that you are hitting me with it all at once this is insane... SQUARE ENIX TAKE YOUR TIME I TAKE IT BACK
Ngl, I did think that KH3 was actually in development since 2006 due to people spreading that incorrect information. So yeah it was actually a bit surprising to learn that 2013 was when they really began development. But yeah I agree that I would rather be patient and wait for a game that is done well and is not rushed. Especially with all the factors that you mentioned in the video. And 0.2 was actually great and looks amazing for something that the Osaka Team has made. I have high hopes for KH3 and I'm sure Square knows that we all have very high expectations for the game, which can be very pressuring for the team. And a release window would be cool. At least we'd have an idea of when we might be able to play the game and provide some comfort to us.
I agree with you to an extent, but I do think you're simplifying the subject quite a bit due to personal bias. I completely understand your perspective, but I think people have every right and should speak out when they're dissatisfied with how a company is handling a product. I think it's natural for people to be getting a little hasty when a game that was announced almost four years ago still has very little promotion and we're still fairly in the dark regarding its progress. That wouldn't be so bad, but the fact that they didn't really deliver on their "KH3 Announcements" announcement at the end of the 2.8 E3 trailer (and no, one screenshot and news about a mobile game doesn't suffice no matter how technical you get) I think people shouldn't be afraid to hold Square accountable when they mess up. Not to mention we had very little explanation, discounting the few interviews that we wouldn't have even known about if it weren't for translators. And I know you like to say Square Enix doesn't "owe" us anything, but I don't think that's entirely true. I would agree if we were speaking of a friend or comrade who was doing us a favor simply out of kindness, but the strength of a corporation's success lies within the people who support them, so it's their literal job to appeal to the wants and needs of the people. They don't HAVE to do it, but it could hurt them financially if they're not careful. If it was announced that KH3 was coming out for free, I would agree with you 100% but since that's obviously not the case, I do think people can complain when it's their own money that they're choosing to put into this product. Understand that the KH community is getting bigger and bigger with each year, so this kind of disarray is just what's going to happen and we have to deal with it. I'm personally not hounding for KH3 much either after the release of so many other great games, but I also don't have any problems with people getting frustrated at Square Enix when the company themselves don't deliver on their word OR are keeping us in pitch black for years at a time. It's the basic foundation of business: when we don't get things we want from companies, we express our dissatisfaction and hope that they turn things around. I don't think people should be silent in that regard. If people were always silent, we probably would've gotten 2.8 in August instead of only two weeks after Japan. That's progress. Sometimes complaining is unjustified and stupid, but sometimes it's necessary. Nobody wants a rushed KH3 at all, but the frustration comes from the minimal news and information we have about the game when it was announced so long ago and anticipated for long before even that. Sure we have 2.8 and the PS4 remasters, but nothing brand new with a boatload of shiny new content that we can really sit down for an entire day and just immerse ourselves into the wonderful universe of Kingdom Hearts unless we want to just want to replay the same games over and over. and that's why people are frothing so hard at KH3. It's a chance to finally get another full course meal instead of the desserts and appetizers we've received since KH2 Final Mix. You're patient for KH3, and that's totally fine. But other people who are impatient have every right to be as well.
Thank you for your comment! I do love when people speak out to a company about dissatisfaction with the product. I always encourage it when I feel it has a true meaning behind it. When it can help things. Some people in my comments here think that because I made this video and am not hard on Square for promotion of this game since announcement that I will lay down and defend anything they do. Not even a little true. But different things matter to me. Square Enix releasing rushing the 1.5 and 2.5 ports, I always get on them for that. The handhelds since KH2 not being up to the same quality? I criticize it all the time, even in this video. Save Crashing existing in the new 2FM? I actively campaign for patching of the new collection to make it our best. and I always talk about Union X being dumb and now am afraid of it being forcefully pushed into our story. When Square Enix messes up something that affects the players I'm always on them for it. In terms of the winter news situation, yes I believe it was poorly handled. It's also true that while that old statement was in the E3 trailer, the closer we approached winter the more we got updates saying things such as "not until after 2.8", "we're redoing models and have a ways to go", I cannot announce the next KH3 info at this time". It's only logical I listen to the more recent statements put out instead of an old statement given out last summer back when 2.8 was still set for December. For all we know that statement wasn't even from Nomura himself, which just makes it an even bigger mess. Things change, and while the latest updates gave signs on the news not coming to fruition I agree it would have been better for them to say that winter news is no longer coming as planned. But here's the thing. At this time, there's winter ending, everyone is remembering that old statement and getting upset. Okay. There's also 1.5+2.5 just released now, it has several issues that need to be patched that can ruin your gameplay experience. Like yeah winter news didn't happen, but am I gonna sit here and say "HEY! You aren't giving me the promotional material for this upcoming game you said you would give us last summer and haven't commented on since?" or will I say "Hey, 1.5+2.5 has large issues that need to be patched"? One issue greatly outweighs the other. And IMO getting on a company for not promoting a game is just odd. If others wanna do it, whatever (winter news is a little more legitimate I will say but I find it especially ridiculous when it just happens for a random event not showing KH3 with no previous promises) but I have something more important to focus on. I'm sorry I don't really understand your point of: If KH3 was a free product you would then agree with me. I think the opposite. KH3 is a product we will all have to pay for to access when it's released. It's not something that's physically bought until it is out. We are loyal fans who love to get new information on the big upcoming game, but we did not actually buy a product yet, it's simply something we look forward to. We receive promotional material completely for free and at Square's discretion. Yes, I agree it is only beneficial for Square to show off the game and give it exposure with more trailers, but that's on Square's marketing team. That's their problem. That's not MY problem. I'm not taking away anyones right to complain over marketing material but I don't see the point in it and it even has a chance at harming the game if the release date pressure actually got to them. If anything it just serves as a treat to me whenever news and trailers do come out, but I still stand by they never "owe" that to me. I'm a loyal fan who loves to see that stuff yes. But I am not investing any money here, there is no transaction going on, nothing is "owed." Yeah when Square messes up with their marketing of the game I do think "man, get it together", but its nothing for me to get outraged over. However, buying a new KH game, playing it, having issues in my game I PAID MONEY for... that IS my problem. That IS the consumers problem. That is where Square is screwing up and hurting the consumer that bought their product. And while they have no obligation to patch it, it's something that directly affects MY game experience that I already paid for, so I will complain about it and try to get it fixed. The product not functioning properly is a pressing issue to me, not having a new trailer for a product that isn't finished or out yet doesn't really get me bothered. Like I said in the video, I can't stop the impatient pressuring fans on KH3, but I fail to understand the goal in their actions or sympathize with them. And that's okay.
I hope we get to play only as Sora in KH3. The reason why I've skipped a majority of the games that came out after KH2 was because I didn't care about the other characters you played as. I care about the story, so I just watch it on youtube, but I can't bring myself to play as someone else, I've spent far too much time with Sora,Donald and Goofy to play as someone else, so I REALLY hope in KH3 we get the usual trio from beginning to end. That's all I ask for. Great video btw Dean! :D
My big gripe as a kid was the other releases were on other consoles. As a kid all I had was a ps2. Then a 360, so that's the only reason it's felt like a lifetime waiting for kh3. Obviously that's not the case now however I think a lot can agree kh1 and 2 were the only games we had as kids.
I was so hyped for Kingdom Hearts 3 back when it was a official announced. I have followed KH news and other games. I missed out playing them as I didn't have the hand hold consoles or PS3. I was one of few that was really happy with the PS4 release of the final mixs aa it gave a chance to catch up before buying 2.8 and enjoy all the titles that I have missed. I am hoping that next year will be a big year for KH3. I have been a Square Enix fan for both Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts since the PS2 days. I want enough time to play these titles between releases and I don't want to rush through games. I only buy a handful of games per year and Final Fantasy followed by Kingdom Hearts games are my top reason for getting a PS4 as I switched last generation. I felt a little left out. I hope Kingdom Hearts doesn't take 10 year's like FF15 and gets a rushed release full of cut content and bugs and glitches. Sorry for the long comment but I fell like I am in the middle of hardcore fans and causal fans. That just gets forgotten about. The main reason is my financial place.
People who want kh3 soon doesn't mean they don't want good quality from the game. While I get the idea of this video to point out the reasons but as someone who's been playing Kingdom Hearts since it's birth I'm ready for this game now.
Also I will agree Square announced the game too early. They should've had their ducks in a row before making an announcement on a really anticipated game. Square kinda shot themselves in the foot with this one which is why you got fans thirsty for any kind of information. But I don't find it bad for people wanting to know how the saga ends.
I'm not giving them a pass for playing around with handheld games for years. They would much more experienced with HD gaming and newer engines if they stopped chasing around their tail for so long on the DS and PSP.
My biggest concern is the new keyblade transformations, it just reminds me of BBS shotlocks and I'm truly hoping I'm wrong. In BBS, shotlocks were the go to easy way to beat bosses, take down multiple bars of health with one shotlock use. I LOVE general tactical gameplay with timing combos timing your attacks learning patterns etc, I'm not the biggest fan of the whole 'activate super ability to do a hefty chunk of damage whilst invincible'. Might just be me but yeah. I hope these keyblade abilities won't turn into massive damage dealers that can skip portions of strategic boss fights. :(
Yeah I totally understand what you mean. Shotlocks aren't too different from KH2's Limit's other than the fact that you have to aim them for the "shot", but the thing about KH2's limits is they came at an extreme price of all your MP. In BBS, shotlocks exclusively used the focus meter, and it was very easy to build back up with no compromise going on so it was always a free move to go for when the time came. Hopefully they make the resources to use any invincible type moves in KH3 very costly and make you have to sacrifice significant opportunities to access them just like in KH2.
Soraalam1 Completely agree! Plus with limits you'd also lose party member(s) as well so Donald couldn't heal you during. I have faith, even the fact alone they've followed the numbered games with bringing the KH2 MP system back and removing the command deck scheme. Hopefully it all turns out well. :)
Ahh yes, another quality video from Daddy Dean.
They do! I was kind of saving it for when I make a detailed video on 0.2, lots of Osaka progress talk, sorry.
Soraalam1 Awesome, can't wait for another great video then!
+Soraalam1 I have to correct you there from the vid. I have been waiting for KH3 since KH2, but it wasn't like I been dying for it. if anything I like this long wait it gives them time to make it right. take all the time you need square.
KHTTC After FFXV, I PREFER Osaka Team.
I certainly think 3 will be their best game just based on everything we're seeing.
Every time ANYTHING kh3 is even whispered about, people are acting as if WW3 is going on. no matter how long they take, i believe the people who keep hounding square will be here.
that's what i'm hoping for too. like i said i'm probably worrying too much but i just don't want KH3 to be another Duke Nukem Forever like situation.
LimitForm72 Fight me mortal!
I 100% agree.
People like Dean are why I can still be sane about KH3.
Wilki Jean-Pierre Dude same
Wilki Jean-Pierre i need to spread the word like a virus. i found this great remix for kh dear Beloved song. the guy who made it was artic panguin
nope artic empire
Danny Gonzalez I kinda agree. A lot of the KH youtubers have very low quality content, unfortunately.
Danny Gonzalez if you anything about KH3 news fans will lynch you
Kingdom Hearts games like in the series is Kingdom Hearts itself. It gave people light they bathed in it. But they wanted more and more. When offer smaller fragments of the light they refused they wanted the main source being Kingdom Hearts III. This lead them to a path of darkness as we see in comments.
Never thought of it like that. All the butthurt people have darkness in their hearts.
Kingdom080500 darkness in there butt
Well said
Not making any mentions here, but unfortunately there are several other RUclipsrs that do that sort of hype and I know of one in particular. I can't speak for any of the DS games but to call some of them trash is, within his own right yes, but unnecessary. In terms of lore 358/2 makes sense because Roxas needed a backstory. As for the KH3 hype, I agree with Dean in every way. Well done, I applaud you
"Upcoming announcementS this winter"
That message in particular was put at the end of a trailer for 2.8.

Game has taken so long to release nigga had to make a documentary for the History channel
LOL I'll give you this one, it's funny.
XD
The Flamebolt I ACTUALLY not joking just died laughing at that! That is hilarious!
I aim to please ;)
Soraalam1 This is so damn true lmao
Haru Kazuhira 0.2 releved almost all my Osaka team worries.
i can feel the hard work you put into this, and the QUALITYYY...awesome video dude! ❤
That game almost killed the entire series and now it's slowly limping its way back to health.
mmm sonic mania tho.... looks great
zeebo30 I'm excited for Mania and Forces. Both games look great. Sega delaying Mania to summer shows that they're learning from their mistakes.
Wait...Kingdom Hearts 3? What's that? KH4 already came out.
No It's not. There are 9 games out but 3 comes out hopefully soon. They all have different mames but there isn't even a release date for Kingdom Hearts 3. Not one that I've heard of atleast.
Cloud Strife 1.5+2.5=4. It was a joke :)
blueglo Oh ok sorry. I didn't catch that and thought you were being serious lol.
Cloud Strife It's ok :D
Ok
I can see you put a lot of time and effort into this video, great job as always Dean.
very rare now in days.
Roxas No. XIII Get 2.8. It's very good and shows off Osaka's improvements.
I liked the video before i even watched it.
The level of quality from Dean stems that level of blind trust from me in his scarce work.
I'm at school right now and can't watch this, but I can already tell this video is gonna be juicy. Keep up the Great Work Dean!!!
And here we are now, 8 days from the release of KH3. It still seems surreal but it's been an amazing time so far.
Oh! Thanks for the little correction, appreciate that.
Fantastic video. Makes me mad when casual fans only played KH 1&2 and want kh3. Like dude cmon you gotta play the other games to understand
Sagman Twelve
*back to mainstream systems like PS4 and Xbox One ( and maybe Nintendo Switch).
Fixed it for you.
Kingdom080500 It's already confirmed to be on the Xbox One, so saying that they should focus on the ps4 version rather than a port is redundant.
Another excellent educational video Dean bravo!
Anytime Dean uploads, you know it'll be more quality than anything you can think of.
Damn, You nailed it dean great job
CJAdams97 like always
I just need to say that this video was very well done. Your design process is very insightful and greatly appreciated.
Dude this video is amazing and I will be sharing it to help spread your understanding and patience. Excellent work.
I appreciate the comment, thank you!
Of course! And thank you for being a voice of reason on the subject!
That intro is pretty fire dude
TY for being a rational person, in this gimme now day and age.
so just subscribed your KH2.5 moshroom 13 video's helped a lot and they were very well done. excellent videos man.
Great job!
This was an amazing video. You can tell how much time and effort you put into this.
I agreed with all of your points.
Dean my boy! Awesome video man, I really enjoyed it and totally understand you.
I understand I'll wait forever then. Thank you so so much
thanks for the sarcasm
@Soraalam1 the window thing is the best thing i ever heard,we need that.
It's bad business.
man, I was actually one of those people who were thirsty for kingdom hearts 3 news but now I see the light and now I understand so....ya
Great video Dean!
Thanks for this video. I dont want kh3 to be rushed.
Great video Dean! Hopefully your message can get across to the casual players.
My thoughts exactly.
Rushed games don't have a particularly good track record *Cough* Sonic '06 *Cough*
Cartoon Critic Well no matter what happens no 3D Square Enix game can reach the level of the atrocitie known as Final Fantasy XIV
I'm not too worried about the release date, I mostly want to see something new and interesting from any new KHIII news we get in the next year.
WhOAAA this was an amazing video, Dean! HUGE APPLAUSE FOR U 👏👏👏
Amazing work as always!!
Also "KH3 has been in development for more than 10 years!!! ahhhh!!!"
No.
It was announced in 2013.
We've been waiting 4 years. Not 10.
Calm down.
You are Awesome Dean
An awesome video Dean! Really shows the development and I love the detail you put into it. I love the series and Square will release the game when they're ready. At least I'll get to replay the series on PS4 and finally get to play 0.2 for the first time.
I've given up on Kingdom Hearts III... until this video. It's been waaaaaaaayyyyyy too long, since the announcement of this game!
My main issue is that even though we get remakes, we haven't gotten a full NEW game since 2012 with dream drop distance
Glad to learn more!
nice vid dean, keep up the good work
Holy shit dean... wow you just changed my thoughts on this games development.. you made it seem like kh3 is just starting out... like i knew most of these things but now that you are hitting me with it all at once this is insane...
Take a shot every time you hear Kingdom Hearts 3 in this video.
Another Great Video by Dean like always 👌🏽
And now we have them all on pc wow. 4 years later huh
Watch the whole video before commenting, people!
good god those cinderblocks scared me
My big gripe as a kid was the other releases were on other consoles.
Really good Video dude. You are the reason why I started my RUclips Channel.
I'm not giving them a pass for playing around with handheld games for years. They would much more experienced with HD gaming and newer engines if they stopped chasing around their tail for so long on the DS and PSP.
"If you are and active fan of my channel" its kinda hard when the channel cant be active 2 months straight! Just kidding love the content man
that's what his twitch is for. lol he's way more active there.
