  • With the release of the Rebel Yell 100 Proof wheated bourbon recently from Lux Row distillers, another affordable wheated bourbon has hit the shelves. But instead of doing a full review I wanted to see how the new Rebel Yell 100 stacks up in a budget blind mash-up against Larceny, Weller Special Reserve and Maker's Mark bourbon.
Hope you enjoy the blind Mash-up and thanks for watching the Mash and Drum whiskey review channel!

With my first bottle of Larceny, I noticed that the level in the bottle went down surprisingly fast. I think it's a great value. I recommend it to others very often.

New to all of this and all I know is I generally like dark liquors. Was at the store yesterday and wanted to try something new so I grabbed something random that looked decent but was also cheap. Happened to be Larceny. The store was selling it for 20$ flat. And let me tell ya I’m gonna need to go back to the store and grab another in about a day or two because damn it goes quick.

I love the variety in people’s answers. I haven’t had the rebel yell, but I’d rank them makers mark, weller, and larceny last. What happened with me is I always heard people talk about choosing larceny over them all, and I thought it was just okay. I always dismissed regular makers because people never gave it that high of reviews. Turns out it’s my favorite out of the group. So try everything people! Your palate may or may not aline with other people’s. That’s the beauty of this all, it’s all subjective. Best thing to do is buy all 4 of them and do your own blind and see what happens hahaha

    • @TheMashandDrum

Exactly. That's why at the end I always break down the flavors again. Makers may be just what people are looking for. That's what's fun about doing these blind tastings. I've become a huge fan of Makers 46 and i know people that really dislike it.

I have larceny and while I don't care for it I do not regret buying it in the sense that it makes a good "bridge" between multiple bourbons, should you decide to create a 3+ blend.

I couldn’t disagree more, but like you said it’s all subjective! I’m on the other end of the spectrum... makers is last for me. Good to know your review though, it makes me understand that people taste different things. I won’t be so obtrusive in my future suggestions to friends. Everyone has a different pallet and can like one over the other and that’s something I need to keep in mind, because I have been pretty closed minded lately.

I agree it's not amazing but it's sweet easy to drink and good value. I think it's hard to beat for the value I've tried lots of different bourbons around that price. Makers Mark and Larceny are 2 of my favorites. I have a bottle of each right now in fact. Wish I ever saw Weller in any store here, I'd love to try it, but you just never find it at retail and the prices on the secondary market are insane for what is a sub-$30 retail bottle.

As I try to become a more discerning bourbon drinker, I subbed here. At this point I don’t have the palette or vocabulary to taste or describe the complexities. I know this isn’t a q&a opportunity, but why is Jack Daniel’s never mentioned?. I just got a bottle of JD single barrel and even with my lack of sophistication, I can say it’s a vast improvement over the No. 7 I’ve had gallons of over the years ( I’m almost 74).. I doubt I’ll ever have an opportunity to sample some of those four figure bottles. i feel I’ll have risen to a higher level when I can taste notes of caramel and toasted almond.

I agree with you..Ive done a few reviews on the JD single barrels and Im in love with the JD SB Barrel Proof. When it comes to Jack some purists tend to get crazy saying its bourbon or not bourbon. Its always an argument. But obverall Jack is putting out some fantastic whiskey!
