    One thing I have in my drawer setup on my 90 Prado is a water pump fed by a footwell water tank thru to a hand gun in the back which works so so well. Any reason you don't fit water pumps to your systems?

    Thanks for all the ideas. Just BTW the engine concerned was not an HZ but a 1HD FT commonly known as the multivalve and was preceded by the 12 valve 1HD T and later replaced by the 1HD FTE with electronic systems.

      @@marcosarria2984 TD42s cop a lot of criticism from the Toyota community as 'the kettle'.
      However, having owned a td42 gu for almost 4 years now and having read up on them a tonne I think it's arguably one of the best no nonsense turbo diesel engines getting around when combined with arguably if not the most reliable 4x4 driveline ever designed.
      If you keep a td42 within its limits, service it and keep on top of the cooling limits it'll easily for for over 700,000 km..

    Hello legends, Placing an order for a 78 series. Issue is dealer is supplying only 1GRFE Petrol or 1VH Diesel. Fuel price is no issue and most mechanics are much more familiar on the petrol engines. Would woud you guys recommend?

      Howzit Jan... as far as the 100 or 105 is concerned one can swap the hz for a turbo diesel but it would be advisable to put a gearbox from a petrol in there at the same time as the hz gearbox won't handle the extra power and it's all a straight swap without having to do too much dashboard electricals and fuel pickups etc. You can also change the petrol for a turbo diesel in which case you don't have to change the gearbox as well but it requires more labour to get the electrics and fuel lines right but it is commonly done. The hz diff ratios are also not ideal for the turbo diesel but this is optional.

      @@markwinter7511 Thanks Mark, do you have a ballpark figure for such a convertion - 105 4.5 EFI to a turbo diesel - and how long it takes?

    • @markwinter7511
      @markwinter7511 4 года назад

      @@janvos5524 Price and availability are both a problem. The HD T (12 valve) and HD FT (24 valve) are both fully mechanical(no electronics) and would be the ones to go for but are like rocking horse pooh in SA. That said they can be found and the job will probably not cost less than R120K all in. On the up side a 105 with a multivalve is a lovely truck.

    Good day Mr. Marsh. In my country the 70 series only has two engine choices. The 1HZ I6 diesel and the 1VD V8 diesel. May I know which engine is the most reliable based from your experience? I am planning to get one. Thank you and stay safe.

    • @Africasideways
      @Africasideways  3 года назад +4

      The Ihz is one of the most reliable engines in world, that's why paul uses it a lot for remote travel into Africa, where u can pick up dirty diesel. The v8 is fine for shorter expeditions.

      He's taking about the engines more in this video, depends on what kind of gearbox you prefer. In the older land cruisers, the manual gearbox is more fuel efficient as it has 5 gears instead of 4 on the auto. But the auto can be nicer to drive on sand and difficult offroad.
