  • Alt title: "My Woolwich video ended up with loads of Deptford"
In this video, we take a tour of the Woolwich area as recorded in the 1963 movie, "The Silent Playground".
The Silent Playground is a British drama movie filmed in south east London. This video looks at the Woolwich parts, as well as what turned out to be Deptford!
CORRECTION: The clocktower DOES have an inscription, even it doesn't have a "plaque" and I'm cross with my source.
Pictures of old Woolwich are from Chris Mansfield, unless otherwise stated www.chrismansf...
Pictures of modern Woolwich are by me unless otherwise stated. Other sources:

Unfortunately the movie is not available to buy, so let's hope Talking Pictures TV keep showing it as often as possible!

2:31 there's a nice shot of Church Hill looking in the other direction in an old TV show called "Smiley's People", I believe it happens in episode 2, this shot would date to 1982. Smiley's People was the follow up to the TV adaptation of "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy", and both shows are well worth the time taken to watch them.

Thank you so much for the tip, I've found the episode elsewhere (although it's mirrored) and I will use it in future.

Thank you for citing sources for all the lovely photos you used ❤
This was a wonderful contemporary time capsule for a lesser known part of London.
    We want more!!
