Woolwich in Film: The Silent Playground
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.Год назад
Alt title: "My Woolwich video ended up with loads of Deptford" In this video, we take a tour of the Woolwich area as recorded in the 1963 movie, "The Silent Playground". The Silent Playground is a British drama movie filmed in south east London. This video looks at the Woolwich parts, as well as what turned out to be Deptford! CORRECTION: The clocktower DOES have an inscription, even it doesn't...

Woolwich has changed so much. I don’t recognise anything.

The next planned walk is through Powis St, the Market and the military town which has changed less, it should feel more familiar. 🙂

Those old pictures of the Woolwich empire remind me of the tower ballroom in Blackpool. At least we have that, but Blackpool council is notorious for destroying old buildings.

This is the kind of format I’d like to do on my videos mixing pictures in and that.

2:31 there's a nice shot of Church Hill looking in the other direction in an old TV show called "Smiley's People", I believe it happens in episode 2, this shot would date to 1982. Smiley's People was the follow up to the TV adaptation of "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy", and both shows are well worth the time taken to watch them.

Thank you so much for the tip, I've found the episode elsewhere (although it's mirrored) and I will use it in future.

Bravo! Love it! Thank you for citing sources for all the lovely photos you used ❤ This was a wonderful contemporary time capsule for a lesser known part of London. We want more!!
