The price of honor. The power of friendship. THE KARATE KID, Part II. Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita re-create the roles that brought them international acclaim in The Karate Kid. Karate student, Daniel Larusso (Macchio), accompanies his wise and whimsical teacher, Mr. Miyagi (Morita), to his ancestral home in Okinawa. For the boy, it's a journey to an exotic new world offering new clues to his mentor's secret past. For Miyagi, it's an opportunity to see his father one last time and tore kindle a romance with his childhood sweetheart (Nobu McCarthy). But Miyagi's return also re-ignites a bitter feud with long-time enemy, Sato (Danny Kamekona) - a feud that involves young Daniel in a brilliant collision of cultures and combat. Now, far away from the tournaments, the cheering crowds and the safety of home, Daniel will face his greatest challenge ever when teacher becomes student and the price of honor is life itself. - Кино
I love how Sato knows that Daniel is gonna break the ice when Daniel is meditating. He realized that moment, Myagi taught Daniel the exact way Sato would. Sato was pissed, but he was also proud.
Sato saw himself in Daniel.

In Cobra Kai season 5 I wanted so bad to hear Chozen tell Silver, “We do not honor bet with coward.”
wouldve been perfect poetry
At the end of episode 2, where Silver had the six would-be Cobra Kai sensei surround Chozen, I was hoping for him to say "All six." before destroying them. Missed opportunity for a KK2 reference.
@@TotsNaterBRO that would’ve been insane. Someone get this man a Time Machine so he can make this happen for real for real
@@TotsNater Agreed. The fight itself though was a KK2 reference.
I like how the look on Sato's face changed when he saw Daniel start the breathing exercise. He knew he might lose the bet. Meanwhile Chosen was clueless the whole time. Sato kept the best karate secrets to himself because he knew Chosen would abuse them, unlike Daniel proved his worthiness to Miyagi.
@dukenukemani07 do u feel daniel was a hypocrite here?he one minute was telling kumiko u gotta be strong in mind, not muscle. But,then tells miyagi guy twice my size only broke 2
@@paulsmith9192 Daniel isn't a hypocrite, he's just plain stupid. If he had listened to Kumiko and not gone into that bar like she warned him, the whole ordeal could've been avoided. Kumiko is a local, so she would know better, but Daniel just charged in like an idiot.
@@paulsmith9192not hypocrite but it has to be a limit, he was prepair to break 3 like he saw the other guys trying to do it. But double?? C'mon
@@dukenukemani07Lmao Calm down clown. He was new to the country. It was broad daylight.
Ironically, by Cobra Kai, Sato had taught EVERYTHING to Chozen. Miyagi was the one who kept the most dangerous arts and techniques from Daniel.. not really because he didn't trust him, but because his karate style had extremely dangerous killing and paralyzing techniques that he didn't want Daniel to know. He wanted him to practice a more peaceful and defensive version of the style. Even without those moves, the style is still very potent and effective. Miyagi's father taught both Miyagi and Sato everything.
The most amazing part of this scene is that college tuition could be paid with what 1200 bucks. Absolutely amazing.
wouldnt pay for the books these days lol
Lol.....truth
Was it $1200? It should’ve been $1800 right? They said the odds were 3 to 1 and he bet $600. Mr. Miyagi the ultimate hustler.
@@patricklee802 It looked like he handed Daniel money off the stack so I assumed the $1200 but I could be wrong, Either way $1200 or $1800, that is basically 1 or 2 classes and books tops now. Which is absolutely atrocious.

Out of all the puzzling things to lose "honor" for in this movie, not paying up on a losing bet would seem to be the most obvious one. And Chozen tried to weasel out of it. Uncle knows your word is your word, even with a sworn enemy at the time.
I'm an American who's trained with Japanese men so if you would like a quick lesson for
context, feel free to read on.
Descendants of nobility would often use the word "honor" but what they really meant was
"class" as some of their lineages stretched back hundreds of years from ruling classes which
could commit terrible injustices. This included a two and a half century period of warrior rule
known as the Tokugawa period and in the 20th century Japan fully embraced their own form
of Fascism where the Imperial government did way more than just attack Pearl Harbor. They
would massacre Chinese civilians, used biological weapons, and even called their own troops
"issen goren" meaning "penny postcard", implying a man from a lower class's life was worth
about as much as the stamp on his draft notice.
When Japan was defeated many of them understood they had allowed their once noble
way of life to be corrupted by this kind of thinking so villains like Chozen represent this
sort of "Master Race" mentality both in Hollywood productions and in their own works.
If there's any further clarification you'd like please let me know and thanks for listening to
my little spiel. Best wishes. JT
@@jthughes9820 I appreciate you sharing.
It is understood by now that Chozen has no idea how honor works. In his mind, honor is like akin to simply not being humiliated. He thinks if he avoids humilation or if he is the one who humiliates, his honor is intact. By being humiliated, he feels his honor is lost. Sato is similar but he has a much better grasp on the concept of Japanese honor, which is why he honored his bet, even with a man he believed stole his honor from him. Both misguided, but Chozen even more so.
Miyagi would have never allowed Daniel to go for it if he didn’t know for a fact he could break it. Great scene
Love how Taro instantly recognizes Daniel-San and runs to go get Chozen at 0:32
I'm glad he had a character name (Taro). I always thought he would have been credited as Okinawa Thug #1.
@1SmokingLizard
It might be Toshio though, but I'm not sure.
All I know is that the novel refers to Chozen's henchmen as Taro and Toshio.
It also seems like Taro has more superior of Toshio in the novel and it seems like we see the gray outfit guy more than the other thug.
Actually that’s Toshio, Taro is the other guy
Damn! Cool blink and you'll miss moment.

I love how Sato just walks in and says “You are covered”
Even though he lost the bet, sato showing up and saying “you are covered” is still badass.

Along with Johnny and Mike
@roweman7017 That's right. It seems like Chozen is now the new Mr. Miyagi for Daniel and I hope Chozen is on season 6 and at least moves to California to be closer to Daniel now that his uncle Sato has passed away feeling he doesn't have anything else left for him in Okinawa.
@@afriendofbean except Kumiko
@@orlandobabe If Kumiko moves to the states also, that will be okay where she wouldn't have anything left for her in Okinawa now that her aunt Yukie has passed away especially since Kumiko was Daniel's girlfriend whom he almost proposed to and she almost moved to the states but Daniel said the reason she didn't was because she got offered a job at a dance company in Tokyo which she wanted to accept. Kumiko also never did anything wrong to Daniel for her not to move to the states even though Daniel got surprised at her during season 3 of Cobra Kai when she told him that she called Chozen to meet up with Daniel where Daniel said "why did you call him? Didn't you remember he and I fought to the death?" with Kumiko saying that, that was a long time ago and Chozen changed. So for that, if Chozen and Kumiko move to the states, Daniel could help her get a job at a dance company and Daniel could help Chozen get a job as a karate teacher and with Daniel being the owner of his business, he could give them a car on a discount.
Best scene in the movie, also a great way for the writers to cover the bases regarding Daniel's financial situation.
😂
Chozen: "comfy couch, how much?"

Great Scene!! Chozen’s friend sees Daniel walk in a gets Chozen there in one minute. A minute later Miyagi shows up to bet on Daniel and when Chozen can not cover the bet his uncle who is a business tycoon walks in to cover the bet. Like in most countries business tycoons like to walk into trashy bars where foreigners come to test their strength by breaking sheets of ice. Love the 80’s

What is the name of the song? I need to find it.
I like how karate kid 2 was totally different scenery and actors but it still had it’s great moments and superb acting
Funny how he never looks for trouble but somehow always finds trouble. Hhaha
Honestly in this instance he had nobody to blame but himself. Kumico told him it was a bad place and he insisted. Which was childish since he doesn't know the area and she clearly didn't want to go.
well like chozen said ´´Maybe trouble looking for you´´
Years ago I met Yuji Okumoto who played Chozen he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I said to him "That's only a character you're acting as onscreen. You're NOTHING like Chozen.' he thanked me for knowing the difference some people recognised him at the theatre I worked and were nervous about meeting him. Sato his uncle and Chozen knew nothing about cowardice. Miyagi was a peaceful man who left Okinawa for this reason which does NOT make him a coward.
Where did you meet him! I would love to meet this guy
The trust of a sensei to his student. This is just amazing.
It’s the * you are covered * that gets me
Still my favorite in all three The Karate Kid movies
Sato already knew what was up when Daniel started with that meditation.
I think people are missing the point of this scene. Sato placed the bet because he wanted to see if Miyagi had taught Daniel the secret arts. His look of disappointment and anger at the end had little to do with losing $600 which to him is nothing. The only part of losing the money to Miyagi that may have been hurtful to Sato was him having to humble himself to Miyagi and pay up. But Sato was was upset that Daniel broke the ice primarily for other reasons.
Technically he lost $1800. It was 3-1 odds.
I think he only took the bet because his nephew made a public scene challenging Daniel to the bet. For honor he had no choice but to accept the bet even knowing he could loose, when he noticed Daniel focusing, he knew he had lost. When soto's nephew covered the money, Sato told him to never embarrass his uncle again. He was referring to the entire situation. The anger was from dishonering his uncle. The dishonor stemming from Mr Miyagi just made it all the worse.
I don’t think Sato was upset at all.
Bugs Bunny🐰: "Well that's the way the ball bounces, somebody's gotta lose somebody's gotta win."🤣
Sato knew Daniel was being trained in the old ways , it was then he realized my nephew is a goofy
Mr. Miyagi basically said at the end, you get college tuition... and I'm gonna go stuff my face!! 😄
What’s funny about that is I can’t see Miyagi doing that.
I love how subtle and respectful they made this scene knowing the audience is smart enough to understand when they showed Chozen's friend notice Daniel walking into the place, then run off to tell Chozen. They didn't have to zoom in and show us that he saw him, they didn't have to think the audience is not smart. They just did it casually.
0:34 that guy with the hat was looking at Daniel
We could've had him! We could've had him man. I will fire when I'm good a goddamn ready! GOT IT!
I love these movies so much 💖.. It's funny in this scene how Miyagi and Sato seem to be nextdoor 😂🤘
iv always loved this scene, especially when the music comes in a drowns out the crowd and the music playing in the background. Im wondering if its representative of Daniels focus deepening before the break.
Daniel also doesn't consider for a second how ridiculous he must look he just does the exercise. but when he opens them, there's a savage confidence that wasn't there before.
Either way, masterful sequence.
Great SONG in the background :-) Love the Part 2 - I absolutely loved the love story and I stil do.
Sato knew not only was Daniel was formidable, Miyagi had the superior student and had the superior bond with this student Daniel.
After the typhoon, Sato also realized Daniel was superior in character as well.

Same thickness as the other guy's ice blocks.
I love it in Cobra Kai how the ice just sits there melting after Johnny pulls off the upstaging of Daniel's ice breaking demo. I think they could have incorporated Daniel vs Johnny in an ice breaking contest.
