You've been journalling for as long as I've been alive, and I cannot describe the admiration I felt watching this video. I felt butterflies in my stomach, believe it or not! Thank you so much for sharing this!! I don't have _individual_ journals to look back on, but my husband and I did write a few journals that we exchanged back and forth when we were teens. We were entirely too cheesy though... Lol
This was great, I always enjoy seeing journals. You have such a lot of them and in so many different formats. What a wonderful record to have. (I can't wait for part two!)
Yes please to the nerdy pen thoughts! I am ALWAYS down to talk about stationary. I have also been journaling on and off since my very early teens (I wonder if it is an introvert thing 😊). I haven’t done any kind of regular free form journaling for a while but I really want you get back to it this year and this was so inspiring. I am so jealous that you have all your journals to look back on. I am considering buying a little printer for printing photos for my bullet journal, will have to have a look at the canon ivy.
Since I'm already aware that you pulled the trigger on the Ivy, I hope it ends up working out well for you! It really ended up enriching my journaling practice to be able to paste in pictures of readings....plus every once in a while a family or pet pic or a funny meme or just whatever! I think the journaling since early teens is DEFINITELY an introvert thing...it was almost a compulsion for me back before I lived by myself, because I think it really was my only source of mental space to be alone in. Will be making the nerdy pen thoughts video this weekend! 💖💖💖💖💖
Wow -- it's amazing you have access to all those journals --- keys to your life. In my most recent move I discovered a folder under a drawer lining with a bunch of stuff I'd written in my wild youth. I was surprised to find out I apparently was reading tarot in the late '70s and early '80s. I don't remember it at all.
Thanks so much for watching Beth! 💖💖💖💖 Having all those old journals is something I’m really grateful for, even if there have been times that rereading them has been a somewhat cringeworthy experience 😆 Omg what an amazing discovery!! It’s kind of amazing looking back sometimes and realizing how much of the past you don’t actually remember anymore.
Great video. I’m looking forward to part 2. I’m locked in the “I don’t journal” closet - shameful! (a collective gasp from the whole tarot tuber community). It just feels like homework to me, and I’m more of a visual learner. I did buy a tarot planner this year (writual society) - I’m a bit lax with daily draws, but I have done a year ahead, and the month ahead spread. They may be fun to look back on, I suppose. Your years of journaling practice is very impressive! ☺️🌅🌿
::GASP:: lol just kidding….I think it makes total sense not to journal if it’s just not how your brain works…for people who process things visually rather than verbally then a written journal isn’t going to have the same benefit and I can see how it would just feel like a chore at that point. 💖💖💖
This was fun! I admire your perseverance as a child and teen; I tried journaling for years but could never seem to keep up a consistent writing habit. 2022 was the first year that I filled a page-per-day notebook and I’m so glad it has finally “stuck”! Would love to see more journaling content from you.
Thanks so much Sarah!! 💖💖💖💖 It’s funny, I think as a child and teen the compulsion for journaling really came from my introversion and the fact that journaling almost became my private mental space away from anyone I lived with…I’ve always found it very telling that the need for it lessened at the exact same time that I finished law school and was living completely solo for the first time in my life. That’s so awesome that you’ve been able to really make it a regular practice this past year! I think it’s so valuable. 😊💖
I absolutely loved this! Loved that you titled the volumes, that you’ve kept them since you were 12, the nerdiness, Tori Amos. Just ❤. This makes me want to pull out my memory boxes from storage where the journals and diaries from my youth live. Did you ever have a live journal back in the day?
Thank you so much Marlene!! 💖💖💖💖 I TOTALLY had a Livejournal back in the day although I used it less for regular journaling than for fanfiction (just to let my nerd flag fly even higher today 😆) If you’re ever inclined to make a video about your old journals and diaries just letting you know how here for that I’d be 🙋♀️😆
Aw! We are the same age 💚 I’m trying to imagine what it would be like to have journalled from 12 years old. I got rid of my kid diaries a long time ago, because they embarrassed me so much 🤦♀️ I use Canon Ivy pics in my journals too 💚
Late 70s Xennial babies ftw!! 💖💖💖💖 Tooootally get feeling embarrassed by your kid journals….honestly it took me many years to get to the point I could read things without cringing painfully 🤣. The Canon Ivy has been such a game-changer! 💖💖💖
This was so fun to watch! I’ve similarly experimented with different types of journals over decades but not even as close to disciplined as you were with completing them before moving on to the next. LOL 😂 I have a lot of journals half finished. I also had a huge gap where I didn’t journal anymore and looking back wish I did. 😢 I’ve now adopted something simpler with less pressure for journaling… I have a flat laying 8 1/2 by 11 calendar with just enough equal space for all 7 days of the week. Sometimes I journal personal stuff and sometimes I put in sticker pictures to mark the day if I don’t have time to journal and sometimes put in a reading if it fits but after sticking with it for 6 months I’ve taken another break. I wish I could journal every day of my life. I still have some waiting to be filled. Do you notice as you get older hands cramping while writing and writing slower? I’ve noticed which makes it extra difficult to journal. Looking forward to seeing more!
Thank you so much! I love the idea of your daily calendar journal…I have a five year journal where I do something similar, just a little memory or something per day, because I realized that since I didn’t write in my regular journal every day it wasn’t great for memory keeping! I’ve actually found since I started using fountain pens I have much less trouble with my hands hurting while writing because they write so easily without needing to press down at all…I have been writing more and finding the act of writing much more enjoyable with fountain pens!
I'm here for nerdy pen musings, please. I'm at the beginning of my fountain pen journey, so far so romantic. Thanks for sharing your journal journey. 30 yrs. Have you re-read any of them?
Yay!!! I will add a pen musings video to the agenda for this series (ngl I’m excited to talk about that topic 😆). Yeah it’s crazy to think that I’ve got 30 years of writing tucked away…I do reread them sometimes but I have generally found that it’s good to give some significant space before I reread, at least several years…otherwise it’s cringe city 🤣
Thank you so much for sharing your journal collection ! ❤️ The sheer amount of insights you must have is out of this world 🙂 I'm in a similar situation. Not so much for insights but unusual meanings for cards, a bit like an out of the box dictionary. If I may ask, how do you actually put to use what you wrote down ? My feeling is that there's so much I don't remember and might be useful but rereading 24 copybooks is not feasible at this point in my life ...
When I journal about things like individual card meanings/analysis I do tend to find that referencing back later isn’t really the purpose…for me, the journaling process for things like that is usually a rough sketch of the card and stream of consciousness discussion, and I just find the physical act of writing it down helps the symbols and insights stick in my head better for future use. It’s more about cementing the stuff in my brain than actually creating a dictionary-type record I’ll refer back to. For full readings though, I do revisit them later on just to see how things actually turned out…even looking at that reading I showed from 2004, it’s mind-blowing how spot on that was in hindsight. 😅
Love this video! I laughed out loud when you said yes debate camp!!!! Love that so much. Yes, it’s really wonderful to have a beautiful journal with high quality paper and a lovely pen to write with, but honestly I find I can journal just fine with my spiral bound journal and Bic pen (has to be medium point cannot write with fine point!!! And I buy the pack with multiple color choices!!!) I also volumize journals, but by the year. So Volume I 2023 then Volume II etc. I can’t believe you have ALL of your journals from your whole life!!! That is so impressive!!!! I’m truly afraid to start using fountain pens…. I absolutely do not need another thing to get addicted to!!!! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Thank you so much Liz!!! 💖💖💖💖 I actually went to debate camp two summers in a row in high school which I think really says something about what kind of kid I was 🤣🤣🤣🙈🙈🙈. Honestly starting to use fountain pens was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made-they are a beautiful writing experience and I am truly TRULY addicted now, although I am finding it’s a bit like tarot collecting where I at least feel like I’ve reached an equilibrium point and don’t have anything on the wishlist that I’m desperate to own at the moment 🤣😅
PENSSSS!! Yes a pen video please please please! (peepin' the twsbi diamond 580...dying to know what ink you've got in there....haha pun!) What a fun wander down memory road....journals in the 90's and the 2000's were really something else, viscerally remembering the extremely breakable lock on the front of the diaries. I love that you've kept them all to look back on (omg the floppies!) I had a habit of what I now would call ritually burning them a year or so after they were complete. But I was a pretty angry or maybe more emotional kid, so knowing it was best to release that schtuff back into the universe was something I caught on to pretty early. This was so fun! Thanks so much for sharing Sarah and I can't wait till part II. xx
Thank you Theia!! 💖💖💖💖 So glad you’re there for pen discussion (although I should have known you would be…wasn’t that a limited edition olive Kaweco Sport I spotted in your insta stories yesterday? 😉 being into this hobby has turned me into a full pen stalker). The one on my desk is actually the smoke/rose gold Eco (although I do also have a Diamond 580 in a different color 😆) and it’s currently my “basic black” pen inked up with Noodler’s Heart of Darkness. I’ve often reflected on what it would be like to destroy journals after writing and I think that’s really healthy…on balance I tilt toward being glad I have mine but I’ve found I do have to be careful about rereading them and make sure I have given myself enough time and space before I do it (one year later: self loathing spiral, five years later: not bad but still embarrassing, ten years later: the right amount of space where I can have some genuine affection for old me 🤣🤣🤣)
OMG those Costco four-packs 😂 A throwback!!!! I had the very same ones. Gave them out as party favors one year. Thank you for sharing 💜
Those were the days, right? Bulk blank books at Costco that I probably bought with birthday money a relative sent me 🤣🤣🤣

This was great, I always enjoy seeing journals. You have such a lot of them and in so many different formats. What a wonderful record to have.
