I love how modders when it came to cars managed to go from having cars literally be a character model replacement so it was really just you with a speed boost but with a car as a character model, to literally creating fully working cars with actual physics, suspension, traction and collision physics. Yet Bethesda refuses to give us a single mode of transport to get around
I think cars would work really good in like fallout 5 if let’s say the map is like dayz size or bigger and you get better transportation over time. Like let’s say you start out from vault whatever, and you are in a town or area and find a car. You could work on building the car over time so you can go further to explore the map. It’s just I think cars take away from the exploration in fallout

The physics on the buggy really impressed me on that mod, the suspension working, the handling and the way the car slides are better than even racing games like modern nfs games.

The physics on The Highwayman were pretty good too, just lacking in suspension travel which makes sense as its a road going car rather than an off road buggy.

As much as the frontier sucks dog ass, it did add framework to make vehicles work in the most buggy and frankensteined engine around which is more than most mods offer.
It's not that the devs can't add vehicles, it's that adding vehicles comes with a slew of changes to game balance that need to be taken into account. Even the new vegas devs coincided adding vehicles to the game but decided not to because it would make the world feel to small.
yeah cause if the devs add vehicles, i mean ignoring that this is Bethesda's engine, then you either have a world that is too small, or you have to basically force vehicle usage. iirc the new vegas devs deliberately downscaled the scans of nevada in order to make it so you dont take literal days to travel from one end to the other

I don’t think it’s out yet, but there’s a mod called “flyable P-80” or something along those lines. The p-80 is one of the fighter jets (pretty much identical to the real version) but it’s by far the best vehicle mod I’ve ever seen. It’s also got a fully modelled cockpit and everything, you can choose its weaponry, reload it, repair it, it just looks awesome.
I loved the dune buggy in Fallout Tactics, I used it to ferry my character from the motorpool to the quartermaster to barter off loot in certain brotherhood bunkers. You couldn't walk while encumbered in that game. You just had to be careful not to hit anybody, or else the whole bunker would attack you.

just because TODDler isn't capable of making working vechicles without ruining the lore completely or breaking bethesda's shitty engine even more doesn't mean it's impossible. more than that it is verymuch real and within reaching distance give mr House 5 years and he will build army of couriers give him another 10 and he will sent couriers into space in 15 we will make our own new vegas sequel
The vehicles in the first two fallout games weren't actually actively moving but something that helped you speed things along and acted like an additional storage container as well as helped you avoid random encounters often. I think it be better for current fallout games, make a few garages with parts of vehicles being built or worked on, but that might be because people would say "oh its the apocalypses there can''t be motor vehicles" Like a vertibird, an airship are easier than a simple car. Overall Todd Howard is just lazy. Hello a mod I had for survival in fallout 4 was the lone wanderer, you had to find the bike, then repair it, then maintain it and fuel it up, I mean with that bike I had tons of new situations such as entering buildings I would have never entered under normal playthrough.
i would love to have drivable vehicles then fast travel. I know people would disagree but I like it for immersion sake and because driving vehicles is more fun.
I hate the argument of vehicles would be to fast.. make a bigger map and or cap the vehicles at like 30mph or so depending, something faster than running but not to fast add fuel and maintenance cost and maybe one day we can get the best of all the fallouts and more in one. (its been 200+ years I'm sure we can write a reasonable reason why we cap the speed)
How fusion cores should have been properly used in 4 and future games: - High power Generators, like the Fusion one you can unlock. Adding extra realism and settlement management. - Vehicles: essentialy working as the source of fuel to operate them properly. Further upgrades (and maybe completition of the main quest) will make you able to permanently use just one fusion core for your car, bike or whatever, essentialy working like canon Power Armors, not needing recharging. - some big energy weapon
@@KnightRaven Considering that 1 Fusion Core is essentialy a larger version of a (micro)fusion Cell, and so is meant to operate and power industrial grade machineries (like the giant rock excavator in Appalachia), having cars, which are logicaly functioning after 200+ years after several repairments and understanding of the engines, powered by a Fusion Core would be possible, and open to some intriguing mechanics, like cars been able to use Microfusion Cells as standard fuel, or a Fusion core that can also be used for nitro. The introduction of Fusion Cores was a great addition. Sadly, the limitation to Power Armor and Laser Gatling for sure felt wasted... lucky, some genial modder will one day read this message and, idk, find a way to make functioning cars and add this mechanic for them.
