I absolutely loved producing and arranging and synthesizing this work for the stylistics. My arrangement was a tribute back then to Thom Bell who passed away yesterday.🙏🏽

The Stylistics are my favorite group i have had the pleasure to see them several times even though they have had personnel changes they still sound the same after all the years they have been together.
James Smith not singing, this. He and James Dunn quit the group in 80....this is from 1982 album. That is Raymond Johnson singing...he went from guitar player to singer with the group. He was with the group 15 years as guitarist and singer and is now in Russell Thompkins jr and new Stylistics group . He has great a voice. 🎶⭐🎶

If you type Stylistics " Drivin Me Crazy" ( rare UK performance)...... it is fabulous video of the group when it was the greatest! 4 of them Arion, Raymond , Herb, and Russrll) they have green suits on and all 4 dance. Vocal is Raymond johnson. This album 1982....Raymond Joined the Stylistics as singer AFTER James Smith and James Dunn had left the group. Raymond does a fine job with his smooth voice. He is the one with glasses and still with Russell in new Stylistics. I truly think his voice is much better than the original guy , Airion. Love, who sang on this song with Russell many decades ago.......❣🎶
Thank you Nancy for that cause I would have been wondering who that was and someone would have given some bogus info. Someone should write a book about all these soul groups, thats why our story always gets told by the wrong people and that 's part of our history ......misinformation and its our own fault.

This was not James Smith singing...he left the group after James Dunn left... both before 1980....this is 1982 album......then Raymond Johnson joined to take their place. This...has to be Raymond Johnson ( in glasses) He played guitar for group before he stepped in to sing when Smith and Dunn left. The reason the others didnt sing a solo was Thom Bell and Linda Creed song writers and record company writer/ producers were only interested in Russell recording songs alone and with studio professional singers including Russell himself singing double cut were the background singers on records.. James Dunn and James Smith quit because they weren't being used in recordings. Just on stage.. and one had a medical reason. Raymond Johnson was with them for many years then he quit. Leaving the group a trio. Russell quit in late 1999. Raymond Johnson sings now with Russell Thompkins in new Stylistics. When Russell left ..the stage manager/ conductor/ keyboard artist Kenneth Thompson, , Raymond Johnson, the choreographer, and most of band members went with Russell and are in his new Stylistics today . Russell refused to break the group up....so he took care of all of them for 30 years.. He did the meetings with writers. Picked songs Practices, recording sessions nearly every day plus traveling to concerts and sang every song for 30+ years. The others did none of that for first 3 albums and 10 out of 12 straight top hits....Airion sang duo lead on two of the. 12 because Russell asked Bell & Creed to write songs for Airion to sing duo lead with him....and they all sang on first record cut " Big Girl Now".....

Supremes, Chi Lites, Righeous bros, Beachboys, Walker Bros , Beatles, marvel's, Diamonds, Imperials, Spinners, Etc.....the list goes on and on. It's sad. Like your last name, Philip...Watts....that's my family name I was born with also. 😉
The song writers and record company only wanted Russell....not interested in the voices of the others. Russell recorded alone in studio for many years. Professional studio singers ( plus women in group sometimes) sang backup. The other 4 performed on stage. That's why they never sounded like his records. Groups seldom ever have more than one lead singer.

Russell went to them and asked for Airion to sing... They wrote 2 songs that were duo lead..."You are Everything" and "You Make Me Feel Brand Knew". Russell had no control. He had to go solo as they wanted or do what he did to keep them in a group for stage performances. And split money 5 ways. Are you related to James Smith that went to School with Herb and sang in the Percushions before group was formed....by taking Smith and Murrell from Percusions and Dunn, Love and Russell from Monarchs in high school? James Smith did not sing lead in this song....Raymond Johnson sang it. Two years after Smith and Dunn had both quit.
