I’m Australian and we don’t do politics like this. Our election cycles are like 6 weeks and our politicians don’t court the press like in the US. I enjoy watching American politics as my father majored in it and I read the US constitution before my own country’s. And my birthday is inauguration day. I got to stay up late on my 21st birthday to watch the first black president be inaugurated. I can’t wait to stay up on my 37th birthday to watch the first female president of the US be sworn in.

I had never even heard of the guy before then (I'm on the other side of the country, and don't really randomly think about Minnesota all that often). But the more I see and learn, the more I genuinely like the guy. He's just a really good human being, which is rare as hell in politics.
Without question he was the best choice. I just read a Politico article about him, and came away even more impressed than I already was. This guy is the real deal, and a first rate choice! As Yoda would say about Kamala : "Wise, this one is!"
I am in Nigeria and I gotta say this, initially I felt Josh Shapiro should have been the VP pick but watching and listening to Tim Walz, she made the right choice. He speaks in a very comfortable, relatable way and sure knows how to get under Donald Trump's skin in a polite but effective way. In Nigeria, we call it "polite insult'.
I was there. Watching and hearing the crowd reactions on video just cannot capture how it actually felt to be there. It was electric. For the first time since 2020 when we booted him from the White House, politics didn’t matter. There were no party lines. No republicans, no Democrats, no independents. Today, we were all Americans. I haven’t felt this much excitement for the future since 2016. This is like waking up from a nightmare. I had been HOPING people from all parties would rally to the duty of defending our democracy, but I wasn’t really expecting it. Today… it feels like things are going to finally be okay again.

@@chickentoucher55 The campaign has mentioned a plan already to reform border patrol to make it more efficient. Part of that involves a plan to hire on a lot more agents, and iirc provide better training and support. That's already more of a plan than just building a wall at least. The border isn't one of my do or die issues, but for the people concerned about it Kamala was one of the supporters of the bipartisan bill that was slated to work on fixing things, that got shot down because of Trump. He didn't want to give Biden a "win", and got enough Republicans to go against it that it failed. Harris/Walz probably don't entirely align with what you want for the border, but if you look into it they might be better on it than you'd hoped.
I think what strikes me most is the complete change in demeanor in the entire MAGA crowd. Prior to Biden bowing out, Trump practically strutted, always a broad smile on his face. And his crowds reflected his enthusiasm. He genuinely thought he had it locked up. Now, just over two weeks later, he refuses to hold rallies. He never smiles, even when he does go on stage or does an interview. He perpetually looks like he's attending the funeral of someone he's never met. And the enthusiasm at his rallies is s shell of what it used to be. And I'm loving every single second of it.

@@chickentoucher55 The campaign has mentioned a plan already to reform border patrol to make it more efficient. Part of that involves a plan to hire on a lot more agents, and iirc provide better training and support. That's already more of a plan than just building a wall at least.
The border isn't one of my do or die issues, but for the people concerned about it Kamala was one of the supporters of the bipartisan bill that was slated to work on fixing things, that got shot down because of Trump. He didn't want to give Biden a "win", and got enough Republicans to go against it that it failed.
Harris/Walz probably don't entirely align with what you want for the border, but if you look into it they might be better on it than you'd hoped.

I think what strikes me most is the complete change in demeanor in the entire MAGA crowd. Prior to Biden bowing out, Trump practically strutted, always a broad smile on his face. And his crowds reflected his enthusiasm. He genuinely thought he had it locked up. Now, just over two weeks later, he refuses to hold rallies. He never smiles, even when he does go on stage or does an interview. He perpetually looks like he's attending the funeral of someone he's never met. And the enthusiasm at his rallies is s shell of what it used to be. And I'm loving every single second of it.
