For the oil, get a new valve cover if you haven't already. Often they crack internally and drip oil into the cylinders and their PCV system gets clogged on the inside causing pressure. Index 12 injectors if you haven't already. The coilpacks are fine, get new plugs. Since the car has been high HP I would recommend not skipping over the Valve stem seals as a possibility for the oil. But lastly, although new, check the turbo and they're feed/drain lines. Other oil smells can come from the Oil filter housing gaskets, front crank seal, or oil cooler lines. Hope you go with the build You're the reason I bought my 2009 E92 Black on red interior 6 speed manual 335i.

Hey Adam, it’s been awhile since I watched your videos and you’ve probably fixed by now, but a lot of your problems I had the same ones with my 335i I single turbod. I’m stationed over in Jacksonville, NC. For me: I had to upgrade to index 12 injectors. That fixed all the plug/ignition problems. Get rid of those dumb blue box ignition coils. They are terrible, I found that out the hard way. I think there’s a b58 audi ignition coil conversion that is recommended. The limo mode from boosting cost me a month of time, but I found out it was my crankshaft position sensor! Fueling wise idk what you have in, but my bucket less pump had problems and I switched back to a bucketed fuel pump, still stage 2 however. And lastly, I’d check the oil drain. I had a problem with that on my single turbo. It wasn’t able to tighten fully due to fitment issues since it was the new Doc race bottom mount. I had a precision 5862 on mine. Best of luck!

@@300zxdriver There's three main things you have to acknowledge when buying a car. Fast, cheap, reliable. Most of the time, you can only choose two of those things. People buy these things because they're fast and cheap. Reliability isn't a strong suit for these cars.
Doc Vu Tuning is who has tuned my car for awhile now. I had it upgraded twins and it’s now on a doc race single turbo kit with a precision 6266 Gen 2 BB turbo and he’s been a huge help. JB4 with a MHD bef is the move!

Having owned a 335xi, watching Adam struggle to remove the cowl, find the plugs, and pull the coils is hilarious. I’ve changed my coils and plugs in my campus parking lot 😂
That harbor freight compression gauge is known for reading low, I'd pickup an Innova compression tester from autozone. If you've been using that gauge on all your cars that's probably why they all test at 120. I bet you'll see 170+ with a good gauge.
Check the crankcase pressure at the oil cap. The oil recirculation on these cars is built into the valve cover, when they fail it causes excess vacuum in the crankcase which causes them to burn oil and act like it has a vacuum leak. Unfortunately you have to replace the whole valve cover, but you've got money.
I don't watch much of your channel but i do watch your N54 content. Its sad because i feel like this car got me into your channel, and it was what got you started.
I know this is three yrs old, but that’s why you read & build your car accordingly, there’s so much on the internet about the N54 especially 3 yrs ago, about what to do & what not to do! Your car, precision ignition (dielectric grease in the boots before putting them on the plug! JB4 with Bluetooth connect, MHD BEF, stage 3 fuel pump(twin 450 walbros). JB4 port injection controller, it’ll kick that 450 on where you set it, usually bc13-15psi. That set up will get you 750 wheel all day, which I would dial back to about 650-675 wheel until you build the bottom end. You should be more than mint!

garth james I own one as well, and do my own work. It’s far better than the Audi’s I used to build and tune, and the Subaru’s that I work on. If you have trouble with an N54, stay away from turbo cars in general. I’m a 50 y/o ex Audi tech btw.

I am 37yrs old. There is nothing you can do to convince me that those BMWs are a good platform for tuning.
When he bought this thing all those years ago, it helped convince me to pull the trigger on mine too. I loved it, my first real car. But god damn, I’m really starting to hate mine too.
I would do a boost leak test before I do any tuning. It’s probably difficult to boost leak test it from the turbo, but if you don’t start there then you could be missing the problem. I have seen new aftermarket intercooler leak boost. When you have leaks after the turbo it can start to make it difficult to tune. Some times I have seen welds on the intercooler crack which can expand under higher pressure making the pressure in consistent.
Ignore those compression test results! I rebuilt a quad with a high compression piston due to a harbor freight compression tester. They notoriously read low! As long as they’re equal or near then it’s good to go 👍
There are a couple of guys in the states making over 700hp with n54's. I'd ask them for advice. Most of them run jb4 I think. Doc race also sell the best single turbo kits for these. Find the right people and this car will be magic Adam I promise you.

Small oil saturation can dramatically change compression test results . Don’t be surprised to see 15+ psi gains from oil/liquid on rings saturated to be higher in cylinder
