- Review of my new low boy gooseneck equipment trailer. The trailer has a 14k gvwr with 2 7k axels but it only has 1 jack and the ramps have a couple of issues. This is my first gooseneck trailer and I don't have any other trailer to compare it to in terms of build quality
Here is my review of the weigh safe hitches and how they affect payload

My trailer has similar ramps, but no springs. You probably found this out by now, but it is easier to slide the ramps if you apply force low, close to the pivot tube. I do that with one hand, and keep the ramp parallel to the tube with my other hand in a higher position. If you push from a high point, the ramp tilts a little sideways, and it acts like the mechanism of a bar clamp.
Love the sound of a Cummins.
Yes sir
Nice setup man! Skid steer or mini ex is ready for pickup now! 😉
That’s what I’m working on
Nice trailer. You get what you pay for but this is all you need. Looks good
Thanks
I don’t blame you for trying to save a few bucks. The slides won’t be as handy but you know that ( really suck if you wanna haul a car because u can’t open the door) I think the biggest issue I would have is you have to slide the ramps over to load your tractor and then slide the. Back to latch them with that style. I would fill in between. The two ramps to make it one big ramp

I bought a used trailer this week almost identical to this one made by Tophat. My trailer does need a bit of work but after putting a new jack, paint and 30+ led markers I think it will sure be around half of a new one. Previous owner loaded a heavy skid steer and caused some damage to frame on right side but should be an easy fix. Your trailer looks awesome.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been happy with it so far
@@RockhillfarmYT What equipment do you haul on it? I think the heaviest I will load is an International 444 Tractor (3800lbs) or a smaller compact about 2700 lbs plus attachments. Anyways glad you like the trailer just wish things were priced like pre 2019.
Mainly a John Deere 2038R. With attachments it weighs around 6000
Hey Brock if the trailer does everything you need and you happy then it's a "Great Deal".
Thanks
You got a great deal. I paid the same for a 20ft bumper pull. So yes this was an awesome deal you got.
Thanks for sharing
It was not the perfect trailer I wanted but I have been happy with it so far and that was the best price I could find
Perfect set up for you and the equipment that you have and/or are purchasing soon! Several lessons that I was taught and learned a long time ago from my dad and grand dad….. NEVER be “under trucked”, “under trailered”, “under chained” or under tire’ d. Meaning that All trailer manufacturers use the cheapest foreign tires that they can find. Do yourself a favor and up some really good 10 ply tires now before they de-laminate hauling a load…….it’s not a questions of if they do, but WHEN they do. Lastly, straps all suck and chafe and wear so AWAYS use chains and ratchet binders to strap down loads. This is super important as you get into hauling heavier loads as well as properly attaching your load to the trailer per Kansas DOT requirements/law….. if you lose something the liability exposure would be massive if anyone is injured would be a good time the increase your auto liability insurance limits also. Happy new year!! Can’t wait to finish the hut build with you soon too! that series has been awesome to follow because you always share your lessons learned!
Thanks for the info.
I think the ramp springs are just binding because the paint... just spray a dry lube or something and work them a while and they will soften up and be fine.
Thanks for sharing
I have seen on videos where people put some light grease on their forklift rails to move the forks back and forth. Just a thought.
Thanks for sharing
I have owned and evaluated a lot of trailers. 2 things that I wouldn’t have shorted. Double drop legs, because you don’t EVER want to drop the trailer if it’s loaded with a single drop leg. The strength of a trailer should without exception come from the frame and cross members. I would use this trailer as a 10,000 to 12,000 GVWR, but never as a 14,000. The ramp springs will lose some tension over time. Tap the tubing on the ramp slide and put a grease zerk in it. Just my opinions based on experiences. God bless you this year brother.
Thanks for sharing
Happy new year
Weird I use my 10000 gvwr trailer as a 14000 gvwr that's how we roll in maine lol
Hi Brock, I am a fan of deckovers but for the price you can not go wrong.
Thanks for sharing
If you have to get a license plate to get it registered. You should have a tag of some kind.
They gave me the sticker with the weight ratings because the trailer had just come in and it was raining
Thanks for watching
Shouldve gone to towery trailer sales in rock hill...and got the same trailer for the same price lol
Yeah, those ramps need adjusting. They might loosen up of time, but chances are that they won't for a good while if at all. I also put a safety chain on my ramps that I wrap around the ramps to keep them from falling down. Doesn't have to be heavy duty, just a small chain and a D ring or something to catch them from falling. Then again most gravel roads are better than the paved roads here in SC.

If it works for your needs, it's fine but there's a reason it's cheaper. I bought a GPS 12' utility trailer last year and it was significantly more expensive than the 12' trailers at Home Depot and Lowes, but the difference in the amount/thickness of steel and the quality of the fit and finish made it worth it to me. Good luck with it.....waiting to see some heavy machinery on it!!
Thanks for watching
hi Brock, those springs will soften up on your ramps give it about a month. it is a good looking trailer,, I think you could always add that second Jack later on down the road if needed. thanks for sharing this video looking forward to seeing this trailer at work
Thanks for watching
Trailers have gone up so much I bought a brand new 2020 30 foot big tex with the mega ramps and a spare tire for $8400 out the door including tax. now that trailer is 12 thousands I think the biggest thing is those ramps your going have to slide them ever time you load plus the sides it's not a deck over so it narrow and you can't load pallets on it
Thanks for sharing
I shopped trailers for months and this was the only one I found under $10k. I was talking myself into a much more expensive trailer and at the last minute decided to get this one
I would guess your trailer would go for at least $15k now
Looks like a good combo setup! Great start to the year at Rockhill Farm!
Thanks Chad
Good deal on trailer. Spring will loosen up. Put a little grease on the ramp mount it will slide better.
Thanks for sharing
That is a great looking truck. Watched the walk around and my comment didn’t post 🤷♂️. I think you will be like me and never want a gas truck again! The diesels are so great at towing!
Getting a diesel was a must when I was truck shopping

@@RockhillfarmYT and skid steer shopping 🤞
If that's all you paid for it, I would've went with a gatormade. I bought a 16+5 deckover gooseneck with dual Jack's, lockable toolbox in the front, led lights, and 16k axles with a three fold up ramps for 10,000.00. That's brand new straight from the dealer.
Well you know what they say buy cheap get cheap !
Thanks for watching
Single jack is no big deal. The ramps will be an inconvenience but not a big deal. What I would consider unacceptable would be the side rails. Too many times you will want to load attachments from the side and that is not possible. If the trailer has leaf springs you no not need to center the load over the axles, the equalizer will balance the load between the two. The most important thing when loading is tongue weight which you know from your bumper pull, same applies to gooseneck.
Thanks for sharing
Theirs pros and cons to the side rails. Biggest deal. You can tow comfortably and your equipment fits and no overhanging off the back. That's my problem with my trailer. I need a bigger one so I'm hanging my implements off the back.
I had the same problem until yesterday
Brush hog and stump Grinder hung of the back
Looks like a nice trailer for the price, you have me interested. The minor difficulties you had would, I believe, be easily overcome.
Thanks for sharing
BEING LAZY VERY DANGER TOO / FIRST TIME U BUST YOUR ASS U WILL CLIMB OFF YOUR TRACTOR WILL PUT RAMP IN PLACE THE RIGHT WAY
One of my gooseneck trailers is a Kaufman similar to yours, with the same style ramps. Ya, you’ll have to figure out the spring tension cuz that’ll be a pain in the butt. They should sit on or very close to the ground, though the “looser” they are the heavier they’ll be to lift. The single jack is a non-issue in my opinion. I personally would not want the high side rails. Ya got a real nice set-up now Brock. I suspect that you’ll be VERY satisfied with the gooseneck 👍
Thanks for sharing
It sounds like a good deal, but then again, I've never shopped for a gooseneck, but at 14K, they usually aren't cheap. Thanks for the info Brock. Happy New Year.
Thanks for watching
Looks like a nice trailer for the price. Make sure that the axles are greased though. Mine was not and had to replace bearings after 700 miles, factory may not do it. What brand of axles are on it? There should be a tag on the axle it self.
Thanks for sharing
Nice looking truck trailer combo. Those ramps are clearly defective, if kdot catches them ramps flopping while you unload you can expect a ticket. Just kidding. Hope you had a great New Years Holiday. Time to finish that Quonset hut.
Thanks for watching
young man ,
trailer ramp need to be wider / over time trailer ramp will go down / they want slide over just get some tube grease or might be made to cheap to let then slide over
Also make sure that you don't get into the CDL weight thing. Or you might be very unhappy with the consequences.
At one point your gonna want to haul materials or pick up supplies and your gonna REGRET those side rails. Just saying cause the trailer isn't gonna just be for equipment ONLY. Multiple purposes trailer set ups are the BEST👍👍
Probably right
Nice trailer Brock, Side rails can come in handy, just depends on your needs. 👍
Thanks for watching
Definitly a big upgrade for you! with the way the market goes, i would think in a few years if you wanted to upgrade you would probably get your money back. The single jack is fine as long as yor arent storing it loaded our four horse trailer has a single jack. I love having the bed camera in the f250 for the goosenecks. I dont think you sacrificed too much, my equipment trailer is loaded with hydro jacks and deck but i bought that because i came across a deal that i could not pass up on it. Nice looking set up !! Happy new year -Richie

Well those ramps staying up would be a pain, hope you can figure that out. I would probably just remove the spring assist. My gooseneck only has one jack, that’s fine unless your parking the trailer with a big load on it. Personally I like flat deck trailers with the wheels underneath. What’s the width between the rails? Trailers are getting very expensive. My gooseneck was basically a junk pintle hitch trailer I bought for a $1000. I refloored it built the gooseneck, and went through the axles ending up with about $3000 in a 18000 lb trailer. Take care!
It is 7’ between the rails
Awesome job on remaking that trailer
Thanks for sharing, Brock!
I wouldn't want a trailer with side rails as I have a hard enough time loading heavy things onto my trailer equipment hauler with the fenders in the way. My next trailer will be a deck over so that I can get loaded over the axles much easier. I would also go with the ramps because my tilt trailer is nice, but you can't winch a vehicle onto it (very easily).
Thanks for giving your thoughts on it
I’m a deck over fan. Not sure how I feel about those side rails.
I will probably learn to hate them.

Most inexpensive trailers have things that you need to get used to. Sometimes you give up a little convenience to save some money. These days, money seems to be a lot more important than convenience! For what you use it for, a single jack is plenty, especially considering the 14,000-pound rating. Anything that adds weight to the trailer takes away from the weight you can put on the trailer. That single jack will hold anything you legally put on the trailer. Once you find the best position for your ramps, mark that position with dots of spray paint. That way you can go straight to the position without adjusting. And I find that greasing the ramp slides helps tremendously. It's not nearly as messy as you would tend to believe, and it makes a big difference! If you own a tractor, you should be comfortable around grease. It comes with the territory! I think you'll like your trailer. And the gooseneck makes it much more maneuverable!
Just moving it a couple times I can already tell that the gooseneck drives better
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it
Great deal. I would do the same as you did after buying a new truck. You always can upgrade to a new trailer in the future.
Agreed. If I’m not history with it trade in value should hold up
Thanks for watching
It looks like a major improvement over your old trailer. I think the ramps will stay down after a time. The way prices are on trailers, you could probably recoup your investment in a couple of years and still get to use the trailer!
I think the double jack legs would be the single thing I would have spent a little more on. Stability being a very important aspect to me. Still think it needs landing legs in the back though :)

What’s the name of the place you got the trailer from? Location?
Central Arkansas Trailer sales in Conway Arkansas.
The owner of that business provided great customer service for me. Answered all my calls and messages and then met me at the dealership after hours on a holiday.
@@RockhillfarmYT thanks for the prompt reply. Great video, have really enjoyed your content. Much of what you are doing is what I am… at least I am working towards it.
Thanks again, God Bless.
I appreciate that. Thanks for watching
Ive done a hellve lot more with a lot less each to his own...
I wouldn't call your trailer a "rip off", but as you showed, the design and construction is a compromise compared to some other trailers. Due to the slow-down/shut-down of the economy I had a considerable wait to get my 20+5 Big Tex GN14 this Fall and I paid a bit more than you did.
For me, the deck-over design of the BigTex was worth holding out for. I have full 8'6" width load capacity, and everything I've hauled so far, including 8-foot wide stacks of hay, has been loaded over the side, with a forklift, or with a squeeze.

young man ,
U all way need 2 jacks / 1 jack suck , u can hurt your self with 1 jack / uneven weight / an all way use spring assist want hurt your back / every time U unload something they will lay down / when load your equipment they will come up , NO BIG DEAL !
PLUS + 2 JACK STANDS WILL BE VERY SAFE AND STABLE !.
Well my first impression before u talked was I don't like the sides , now I understand why . So for 8 grand it's great. I think u would have use for a flat or over the tire ( drawing a blank on their name lol) trailer cuz of the ease of products. What if u had a great deal on plywood and it was 2 hr away. It's easier to load. Other than that and hauling other stuff, if u can load over the side great. So great job. When will we see a kwanzaa hut video lol. Great job, I think the ramps will soon just fall to the ground soon enough. Lol Todd🤪
Just waiting on the weather to get a little bit better for the Quonset hut
Thanks for watching
young man ,
rust bed floor out using bed liner
Not sure I know what you mean
Are you saying I should coat the deck of the trailer?
So are your pick up tires load D or load E rating? What are the trailer tires rating? Myself I went with a load rated tire on the pick up cause it handled better with the trailer tires. Just something to think about👍👍
I’ll have to check on the tires
Thanks for the info
put your stump grinder down on your trailer
young man ,
put your stump down on your trailer
