Mounting a winch on a gooseneck trailer!

  • In this video I pull the ‪@warnindustries‬ winch off of my gooseneck trailer and weld on a receiver tube so that I can use my ‪@harborfreight‬ Badlands winch instead. With the winch mounted up high I can keep my synthetic rope from dragging on the ramps as it pulls the vehicle up, then use my ‪@MattsOffRoadRecovery‬ soft shackle to redirect the line down lower to clear the bumper as the vehicle comes forward on the deck.

    Casey,
Mount a 12" roller on the tail of the trailer to keep the cable from getting chewed up.
For the goose neck side, a ring and snatch block or roller fairlead will change the cable direction and again keep the synthetic cable from getting chewed up.

@@CaseyLaDelle Same as a prosthetic leg.
Had me a stuffed-up surgery done on my left foot in July 2022, and although both major wounds each side of the ankle healed, they couldn't get rid of the poison/inflammation inside the foot, so after seven months of having the wounds dressed every 2nd day & ALMOST walking until the infection started overtaking the antibiotics, they again started talking about doing it all again, to re-scrape the crystallite out of my ankle - but as the surgeon said to me that the wounds about the ankle having healed, my ankle was OK, it was just other bones in my left foot, that had become overcome with the infection, to the point where bones had started to soften, and decay / wither away.
Hence I swiftly told them, if there's really no point in doing it all again, with another six months of dressings and SEVERE pain, just to get a foot that wasn't viable - don't piss around.
      Cut the thing off.
Sure I didn't want to lose the foot, but the way the infection was moving up my leg, neither did I want to lose my knee.
So - by getting a BNA (Below Knee Amputation) it circumvented all the pain & suffering I would have had for another six months or more, just to lose the knee at some stage anyway.
Now, it has healed (and a prosthetic fitted) - all I have to do is relearn how to walk - after (that is), getting it shrunk enough to remove the pain of having the prosthetic squeezed onto my stump, when it's ON there.
I did well today, when the local wood merchant delivered 3cu of firewood & by helping the missus shift it into the woodshed, & having worn it down in the woodshed for a good two & a half hours (until it was so numb & painful it was about time to remove it), I feel proud to say - I'm slowly getting used to it, and being upright again.
Albeit coming down off my "high" into the wheelchair again hasn't in any way stalled my desire to (someday) walk again, without relying on elbow crutches etc.
Oh sure, so you have a "baggie", at least there's no need to rush off and find a loo (as you carry your one with you) - and can plan your daily activities around a timeline of emptying your (on hip) loo bags.

Hope you get this message Casey. I see you replaced some boards on your trailer. I recently replaced the wood on my 18 foot utility trailer. when i went to treat the wood, i had a gentlemen tell me to use a mixture of 1 Gallon of diesel with 1 gallon of USED motor oil. mix it well then apply. let the first coat set in, it dont take long, then apply second coat. I have since been told that this mixture works way better than any sealant you can buy.

    • @CaseyLaDelle

Zero chance I’m putting gas an oil on my deck. That’s beyond dumb. For someone like me who actually uses their trailer, I will wear out and break those boards LONG before they decay from the whether. Leave them untreated, and replace as necessary.

I like the sign on your bag but you might want to change that to "Doo-Doo Occurs" so you don't offend anyone! Haha!

Never work for free because of another companies failure. If anything, you should bill them for your time dealing with it.

I realize you had a bad customer experience with ETrailer with vendor…. Well shit happens… everyone has good and bad days. I will say I’ve had excellence experiences with them and great customer service. You’re not me… I respect your experience but it seems like you’re a little harsh on this vendor…
