Welcome back to another series of the OCD & Anxiety show which focuses on providing helpful tips and strategies to family members and loved ones of a person dealing with OCD & Anxiety. In this first episode, we are going to discuss the importance of taking care of yourself (as a family member or as a loved one) while supporting someone who is suffering from OCD and Anxiety.
When someone in your family has OCD, everyone in the family unit is usually impacted. It's natural to have a strong desire to help the person who is suffering from OCD, but often we forget that as family members we also have to meet our own needs. I’ve seen many cases, where the family is spending all their time and energy accommodating their loved one and they completely neglect themselves.
So in this first episode, allow me to share helpful strategies, tips, and WHY it is important for you to take care of yourself before anyone else. Click here to get instant access to the workshop: restoredminds.com/breaking-fr...

Thank you. OCD in the movies is sometimes portrayed as funny, but living with someone who suffers from it in real life is a lonely hell.

Same; and the sufferer is oblivious to the immense stress their condition and its habits places on the rest of the family. My daughter continually 'asks' (demands) we do for her the things she won't/cannot do. The rest of us refuse as much as we can, and as kindly as we can, because it is maddening! We suffer constant 'invigilation' to check if we've touched the 'wrong' things, moved the 'wrong' things, need to 'wash' our hands...and in a particular place in the house! It's mind numbingly crazy.

Thank you so much for this video. I am gonna watch the whole series and learn as much as i can. OCD in any family really has a potential to destroy the family dynamics. Hope I could learn from your videos and implement them in real life.

My mom actually uses this to deny my CPTSD, because she thinks you can somehow abuse the OCD out of them. Hard to realize the trauma impacts and worsens it when they overlap. She chants your toxic "get off the ferris wheel part daily"...kind of awful.

Do you have any tips for «pure-O» sufferers loved ones? Im in the middle of getting an OCD diagnosis without the «classic compulsions» (obsessive thoughts only) and i have a hard time telling apart my obsessions/compulsions and normal toughts and so i imagine its even harder for my partner.

    Scrupulosity 😭
I keep retrusting the Lord as my saviour and his shed blood for remission of sin. It's all I do
    .
... hours.... Retrusting jesus as my saviour and his shed blood for remission of sin.
How many times do I have to trust the shed blood of Christ before I get my name in the lambs book.
I'm told to get over it.... You just have to trust Jesus once...but I can't stop.
    I'm sobbing
    It is killing my family.
. I just stay in my room retrusting jesus .
It is at the point now
    I feel so guilty.
    Um, I keep retrusting jesus
    That's ALL I can do.
    Do you do sessions private?

Is this angle you advocate suitable for someone whose anxiety issues are in part caused by the effects of ADD/ADHD and the situations which cause anxiety that result from that?

If you have any insight on someone with OCD who is also abusive, manipulative, using, and or lying to family that would be really helpful. Even of who to speak to. I believe due to an OCD diagnosis where they took from it that they were 'uncurable' and took that as untreatable or able to get better this family member has wrecked relationships with a spouse and many others over 5+ years and is now homeless and playing guilt and manipulation games on others where he wont do things for himself and uses the OCD and medication as excuses but also gets angry and verbally abusive at time when people dont give in and give him what he wants or mention his lack of doing anything. SO its a sticky situation and Im sure this can happen a lot with older people with OCD who do stop working etc.

Important message: take care of yourself. Don't let the family member and their OCD destroy you.

I am looking for information on the effects of a parent's life controlling, OCD on a 6 year old and 10 year old enlisted to be the enablers and their days dictated by the parent's OCD . Their life is hell and the father is a emotionally abused spouse and won't save the kids. The six year old told him he was lucky to go to work, they have to stay home. Is that not a cry to be rescued?

Ask help from social services? I'd imagine you can even out your neighbours for abusing their kids if you think that is happening. Of course, unfortunately OCD is incredibly misunderstood, and OCD ignorance is common among social services and health care workers, but at least it's something you can do.

Shouldn’t say things like “just can’t do it anymore” …. That’s really triggering. Anyone listening this is horrible condition. Your mate loves you but is in a virtual reality that’s terrifying… take breaks when and where needed but no…. There is no “just can’t do it anymore”…. You can do anything… including this. Keep going… there is an end…

My son developed it by a tyrant boss that demeaned hom enough to quit a high paying job. His hands are raw from washing them. He cleans behind evwry step he takes. He is now having panic attacks.
