Frank at his caustic best, and with some really mean guitar too. The blackface is meant as a grease face as in garage mechanic I believe. Frank was far from a racist but believe there was some mischeviousness about it too. He loved getting reactions as you know. His song "Trouble every day, from 1966, about the Watts riots gives you where Frank stood.
Well Frank in his early years had trouble getting gigs, because how diverse his band was. He always had much diversity in his band, and was the best talent scout i ever witnessed. Not only did he attract the worlds most finest artists, he knew exactly what write for them to perform based on who they were, and besides the anal written music , allowed tjem to be themselves and have that flexability to be them when doing it and intercede with th the music that way.
I scoff at the idea of somebody like Kayne West calling himself a creative genius when they were people like Frank who really were but never felt the need to brag about themselves.
Part of it is shock value. On the other hand, he said himself in an interview, that he was merely a commentator, observing life, and henceforth commentating it in a very humanesque, and thus musical, whimsical way, same time in genious. A,,, how should i say,..... a sort of Fibonacci, Nostre Damus, Lets get back to 332hz.
He also had the backing of that current band, and his previous bands behind him to do this fucked up ass cover. Nobody else could have pulled that off and he would never be able to do it today. When you finally get to Theng Fish you must do it track by track and remember the context of the AIDS Epidemic at the time. It really is a piece Of The Time.
Set aside two hours one day. Get you a couple of fatties ready to go and just plug this album into your headphones and lay back. Frank (Joe) will take you on a musical journey into a future where music becomes illegal and people fuck machines. Throughout the journey, you will be guided by the voice of the Central Scrutinizer (Frank) who will weave all the various musical vignettes into one coherent story. You will not be sorry, in fact, I wager you might want to do it again sometime when you got a couple hours to spare. I know you dig Frank's music, and you appreciate his sense of humor, so why not? You don't have to post a reaction, just do it.
No reason to hate this cover. Frank is pointing out that the person with the mop is of course a colored person. It is really a critisism of our sociity.
IMHO. frank is no genus. .A genus knows how to fuse sophisticated jazz progression and other styles with a pop sensibility.. Cat's like Al Green, Stevie wonder, some early Chicago etc...frank's music is a red hot mess..Not my cup of tea..Sincerely..Poppie *...
@@dago87able ..Yes I don't.. Also love the Al di Meola skit near the end..."sounds like an elegant gypsy", lol.
Lol, I had never noticed that XD
Yes sir!
Another great Italian.
Frank and his love for 50s doo-wop
First reaction I have seen to this! Such good stuff here.
the first Colaiutesque protrusion in Zappa's universe: a real shock: nobody had ever played this way: a true game changer.

What is Frank Zappa? Yes.
Arff..!
I can’t remember if you have reacted to the next track Watermelon in Easter Hay. If you haven’t then do it. You’ll love it
This is one track that really opens up about a third of the way thru , but it's a part of Joe's journey , imagine that ! SCRUTINISE AWAY
Great track, great album
I totally agree with you for all you're comments.
Frank was in a racially diverse band in high school in the 1950s. He definitely was not a racist.

Zappa Lives!
Usually I scoff at the genius label, but Zappa really was a musical genius.

THE COVER. IN 1978 FRANK ZAPPA BECAME THE CUSTODIAN OF HIS MUSIC. IT'S A CUSTODIAN OF RECORDS JOKE.
Little dig at Al Di Meols, is it musk

@@poppiethestable4569 Yeah, I got that Zappa doesn’t adjust to your concept of a genius; doesn’t mean he isn’t.
