ive never seen this show but god this video is just so fucking good im just straight up crying i love the different portrayals of all the characters and ily im listening to this immediately now thx
I'm currently in a community theater production of JCS (ensemble) and I did not know I needed this video until it arrived in my life. Thank you for several good hard cackles.
Holly Verret There’s also the whole thing about the divinity of Jesus kinda being non-existent and the lack of free will, which is really the fuel to the fire
thanks for this, made me understand quite a lot. had to watch it for school and i know absolutely nothing about the origins of christianity, so its safe to say i had pretty big plot holes after watching the movie lol
No, he dies but you are supposed to be compelled to open the Bible and find out "the rest of the story". Just because they did not show the Resurrection does not mean it did not happen.
Holly Verret Maybe so, but it kind of takes the the wind out of their sails. I mean, as I understand it, the whole point isn't that he died, it's that he died and he came back. So not showing the resurrection kind of defeats the purpose, if the show still considers him the real deal.
@@gregorywiederecht The movie was all about the tragedy of his last days, it didn't need to go any further. The audience already knows what comes next in the story.
@@Garrett_Rowland well, it's generally bad practice to assume the audience knows what will happen afterwards. You have to tell the story with the assumption that someone is hearing it for the first time. And if the whole point of the story is that he comes back to life and death is beaten, not showing is resurrection kind of leaves everything hanging
@@Garrett_Rowland But then again, the big failing of this musical is that it never delivers on anything it promises, because it never commits. It's too afraid to commit to Jesus being the Savior, and too afraid to suggest he might not be. So it ends having gone nowhere
@@Garrett_Rowland Because I kind of disagree with your point. The first number of the musical sets everything up with the idea that it's going to pull back the curtain about Jesus. And reveal who he really was. But it never does that. So it ends, without the most important part of the story, leaving it all hanging. The agony of his last days is very well done, but that's not what the narrative let us to believe it was going to be about.
Best version of the 39 Lashes I've ever seen!

You forgot to mention how Pilate was a total shade throwing diva in the 70s movie. My favourite character!
Real talk though Judas was so jealous of Mary Magdalene lmao

Laughed the whole way through this. The bits with Jesus and God damn near killed me. Also, spot-on with the Pharisees.
I lost it when you started singing the whips interlude
“DAD? DAD? DAAAAAA-“ i lost it BYE
also seeing my name at the end of the video is so surreal I LOVE IT
Well, when you explain it this way, it is no wonder that religious people did not like this musical. You are not wrong though.

Absolutely stunning! Eminently quotable

I know you don't post videos anymore, Phoenix, but years later, this video still cheers me up on sad days. Love your humor and style!
