I think it was a public cabin in the national forest, right on the trail. Probably an old mining cabin. Maintained by a local club. The door was wired up for protection from animals.
Your photography is pretty damn good mate. I would also point out that it appears you got wicked lucky with weather on this hike.

The bed frame was probably wired up to the door frame to help keep animals out.
