Latex. Silicone doesn't degrade like that, whereas latex breaks down over time from heat, chemical reactions, and mechanical stress. Latex masks were always the standard for the RAE and even earlier 3-stage conversions.
How old was that mask? Age and temp exposure probably are what did it in, I've had a few of my older Halloween props start melting when near some of my lighting. If possible get molds made from the other characters faces so you can replace them and store the original faces to preserve them. Keep up the good work keeping peaces of robotic history alive and well.

Would silicone tear too easily? It seems more heat resistant and it's fairly flexible. I have dishwasher safe silicone moulds used for baking heart and star shaped cakes, and they don't seem to warp with heat. They're also very squishy, but resilient enough to return to their proper shape. It might cost more than latex, and it might require a different type of paint, but if it can hold up against the spotlights longer, it might be worth experimenting with.

Everyone needs to STOP calling the people who comment with Five Nights at Freddy's stuff names and saying crappy things, it's a game that people are having fun with just calm down and let them have their fun! I have seen people saying "autistic" and "faggot" like that's an appropriate thing to do? Autism is a real problem for people and faggot has NEVER been okay. These are just people who simply love the game whose purpose was to highlight how creepy animatronics can be to some people, myself included, which is actually pretty smart. If you personally do not like the game it still doesn't give you the right to try to bring people down and be a jackass!
Some people hold these animatronics very close to their heart. For many, these guys represent them. They feel insulted when a bunch of children swarm the Rock afire videos commenting in Caps Lock, "OMFG FREDDY FAZBEAR IK IT AHAHAH! FNAF IRL!" You can imagine how pissed some people could be when they find hundreds of these comments on every single video.
I can't think of a clever username. I make videos. Well, Mr. Fechter himself doesn't seem to mind. He's got this channel called therockafire, and you can see his comment down here in these comments. Go ahead and see it. :D
We have no AC. It was hot in the building. That does contribute to the degredation of the masks, but what else is new? I've been in that building for 35 years. There are other masks in there that did not react this way. Just the Beach Bear mask and the Fatz mask is a little funky too. I think it is because the masks had an experimental gloss put on them and I think the gloss ate away at the rubber. But, the funny part is that it kicked so fast.
The oilers under the stage can case the mask to do that if they are set to too high of an oil to air flow. Also if you still use the spotlights lower the watt age of the bulbs. Advice from a former Showbiz Pizza Tech..

I'm surprised somebody tell me since the moving parts such as the mouth and eyes is air controlled how would heat get to the mask since the mechanism is air powered

Plasticizer leakage, perhaps? Rubbery plastic can suffer from that, degrade, and become sticky from "sweating" plasticizer.

it was probly caused by the top half of the endoskeleton over heating or the lights could have gotten too hot and melted the mask idk really
The word "endoskeleton" is not used in animatronics and they can't overheat since they run on air.

it probably over heated because of the wires and mechanism(idk if that's it) stuff it probably was warm
these animatronics use pnuematic cylinders which run off air so they dont get hot. it was prob the spotlight

I heard talcum powder can prevent / resolve stickyness on rubber/latex, but not sure of the chemical reason.
