I am a huge robotics and animatronics lover. To see and understand how the masks were made for the showbiz cast is quite interesting. It's also cool to know you have worked with Aaron. Anyway, I hope you have a good day, and keep up the good work.
Very interesting, I've always wondered why Fatz lost some teeth over the years, but figured it was done purposely in a version change or something. I'm so glad Aaron saved the masters. That is a beautifuly detailed Beach Bear.
Very interesting! I used to always wonder how they made so many molds and how they prevented the masks from shrinking when they made copies. Now I know! Also, it’s amazing Beach Bear only has one mask version. When he has all the detail back you can really tell.
Do you know if Aaron can sell/produce the earlier variations of the masks? Or are those master molds completely gone? Mainly the very first Fatz mask version.
I just came into a mitzi mozzarella mask that was never taken off of the mold. It is actually fused to the mold. What am I supposed to do? Funnily enough, the latex mask was painted when it was already on the mold and it just seems like no one ever bothered to take it off. It's in fabulous condition!!!! But it's fused to the mold.... Any advice?
It would be cool if someone made a walkthrough video on how to make latex masks from scratch, I've wanted for a while to try it out myself but can't due to the lack of knowledge
is that why cei's main dook's face looks different in pictures from a few years ago compared to pictures now? like his current mask was made from a new mold of the master mold?
Nice catch on the masks! Good to see all the details returning and I can’t wait to see the Mitzi mask. Don’t know if you may know the answer to this question, but one Master I’ve been wondering if Aaron still owns is the 2nd version of Looney Bird with the small beak. Any idea if that Master still exists?
@@KentuckyWallChicken Also, Aaron had no part in the destruction of the molds, he is very good about keeping everything that could possibly be used in the future. It is because of him that we even still have molds (and masters). At one time someone went to throw molds out and Aaron saved them and brought them back into the building. People don’t understand that since Aaron is the founder of CEI, like the founder of another company, the work to produce things is delegated out to other people. Someone is in charge of mask masking, another in charge of welding. Aaron did not make masks until the early 2000s. Someone else was in charge of the molds and masks up until that point. When Aaron started making them, he was left with was whatever the previous person had decided to keep. Aaron has never destroyed or thrown out a mold.
@@animatronicswarehouse Thank goodness the other molds weren’t thrown out, yikes 😨 In a way I can understand why the previous person in charge of that department discarded some of the molds from a business perspective, there’s no way they would’ve imagined that those masks would have use again in the future.
@@KentuckyWallChicken Yep, it's unfortunate but true. I don't think they were ever thinking in the future fans would like the creepier or less refined masks but I certainly do lol.
video idea: what if you show off all of the bots you have currently and tell us which ones are for sale and which ones aren't and you could tell us where they came from so we could see shows that were saved from those family entertainment centers and other places
About how much are the masks? I was thinking of ordering a billy bob and Rolf but I don’t want to waste Arron’s time by contacting him if I don’t have enough rn
To start, you make a clay sculpture of what you want to mold. Once that's done, the plaster comes in. You cover the clay sculpture with the plaster, then once the plaster is hard, scrape out the clay. (You shouldn't need the clay anymore). Then, you use a paint brush, and brush on latex into the mold (in layers) and let it dry throughout each layer. Once the mask is at your desired thickness, and the latex is fully dry, carefully pull out of the mold, and done! (That's what I do).
@@DougCraftOfficial The inside of the plaster mold? Yep, you make that hollow when you scrape the clay out, so it has all the detail inside the plaster mold, to brush on the latex.
Okay, i actually dont know whats up with my mask. Its already been removed from the mold and painted, vut it looks like there is plaster inside!!!! Help me, i do not understand?
@@papachillothezappey4050 They had no plant in Texas. The plant was at 333 W Michigan St in Orlando which they moved out of in 1987. The building they moved out of in 2003 was just a storage building on Pineloch Ave which has since been torn down. The Michigan plant is still there, but has been heavily renovated.
His main stage he's restoring originates from an auction of a closing Showbiz Pizza in 1986 and the previous owner left it in the storage unit for decades.
Also if given the right material it is possible to somewhat reform the old masks, I'm surprised that the mask for the Dreamfactory Mitzi was able to be reformed so that the snout is not drooping anymore though it does still look a bit odd around the eye socket.
If you ever get a chance I would be interested In the history of the different places where creative engineering produced characters.
