Darling, Thanks to the US Army, I am no joke, half deaf. I have no problem hearing you. Stay comfortable and cool like you already are.
As a wildland firefighter / USFS sawyer please show the things that can kill a saw. !. let it warm up before running it to 10,000 RPM. 2. most saws have a little hole in the sprocket, that is FOR GREASE for the bearing !, use it. 3. most bars have two (some one) little holes near the end of the bar, these are also for grease. Use them whenever you put gas in. 4. Use premium or canned gas, using low octane gas contributes to cylinder scoring. 5. as you mentioned keep your chain sharp. I use a dremel with a rotary stone, If I am on a fire I use a file, and be sure to file the depth / cut cleaning tooth.
you making chains take me back to my first shop I owned, made chains there. My new shop no room for it. 20' x 20'
Enjoy watching your business grow and how happy you are, God Bless and keep teaching others

EXCELLENT video! Thank you for making it. Best of wishes to all.
Thanks for your time and treasure spent to produce this vid. Smooth sailing and safe harbours.
Cool weather is coming...good info, thanks.
Ok, I need this, really clears up things I was a bit confused about. New sub!
Thanks for that very valuable information now I can get a chain for my saw
More good info!! Thanks Bre!!!
Awesome thank you Young Lady!
Appreciate your work...
Couple of years ago I acquired the 'correct' prepackaged matched bar and chain kit for my saw. Prior to installation I noticed the chain didn't run smoothly around the tip and would ride up out of the sprocket... a potential 'derailment' under load. A thorough investigation eventually revealed the chain's pitch was wrong (by tens of thous per link). Hardly noticeable to the eye.
Made in a large Asian country, presumably the tooling for punching out the chain links was not set up correctly. The accumulative error was very apparent when compared to a new quality chain.
So, even when you've got the 'correct' parts, if something doesn't look (or feel) right...... it probably isn't.
To usually took my dad an hour to make up his chains when we were on the farm. Loved seeing your process and glad that there are still some shops out doing it.
Thanks for the tips
Nice parts selection in a well lit area.
Hello from Mattawa ,Ontario Canada . I love your videos , learn so much from them !! Just wish I was 40 years younger so i could get into repairs on small engines and such!!
I always give you a big thumbs up before I ever watch the video because I always know I will like it. Keep up the good work.
Amazed at what people do
Love your videos!
excellent video and awesome choice for a liquid refreshment, keep up great work Bre.
Thank you! Will do!
very good video on chains and sprockets
I remember my grandfather had a rig he would put on his chain and sharpen it with a rat tail file , very interesting video as always
Nice video. I never realized there was a difference in chains. Good to know. I am still using the extra chain that came with my Poulan saw so i haven’t had to purchase one yet.
Well done Ma'am, very educational and to the point!!! Totally enjoy all your content!! Keep up the great work!!! You rock! 💯🤙🤙
Thank you so much!
I also own a small engine shop and get stupid busy.I have the only shop in a hundred mile radius so I get broken stuff from everywhere.I had to chuckle a bit when you said your shop was too cluttered up for a shop tour and this winter you would do a shop tour. From the little bit I saw in your video your shop looks very well organized .Mine generally has torn apart equipment everywhere and my parts bins are a mess right now.I wish mine was as clean as yours! Great video and thank you for taking the time to make it!
You are so good. I have learner so much ❤️ since I have found you. Luckily we live near a small engine shop and they are very good and informative .I have known the original owner for thirty years and now his children run the business however some other shops I have dealt with are stingray with information it is almost as if they want me to pay for any knowledge they have .You give information freely so that our lives aren't so complicated thankyou love your videos ❤️ my favourite
Finally got to be the very first thumbs up👍love your videos professional quality and very informative keep up the great work!!! It is appreciated!!!!
Thanks Jeff!!!
WOW I learned so much. I am just a little dangerous because I know just enough to get me into trouble. For the most part I only sharpen my saws I don't take things apart. I did get out all my saws (3) and got the chains out of the boxes and off the saws (9) and sharpened all of them so now I have a bunch of sharp chains and I have used files and the power sharpeners (portable 12v) but really prefer the bench top model. Sorry I missed the live stream. Thanks for making content for us :)
That was very informative! I've learned (the hard way) to DOUBLE CHECK the numbers whenever I buy chains and bars...Size matters
This week I'm picking up my 441 from the shop where it's been for five weeks. Nervous....but watching the video a good reminder that I should take chains to be sharpened!!
Great tutorial on the problem that has faced every saw user at some time. Your "chain measuring guide" is the Bees Knees !
Very interesting. Many years ago, when I still cut a lot of wood, I always bought two chains at a time, and one new sprocket. I would rotate the chains so that the wear between the chain and the sprocket did not prematurely wear out a new chain, or a new chain would not accelerate the destruction of an old sprocket. Seemed to work well.
Thanks Chickanic and I could hear you just fine 😉
So keep that air conditioner on when you are filming to stay 😎
The more I watch and learn, the more I realize that there is a lot more to know. Very cool showing how chains are cut from bulk. I am one of those people who was gifted a saw that needs to know more about it to use it safe and effectively and to care for it properly. Thank you for the education.
Awesome! Glad I could help! Thanks again for watching!
I life, regarding knowledge, there will always be something that you miss.
You have great information
Found you from the Taryl fixes all channel all. Your good. You have a good niche market. Your knowledgeable and explain things clearly.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for wearing and showing echo , cause I've always been made to feel like there cheap crap . Plus I have several of their things and I like um , thanks again
Terrific video.
I'm ashamed to tell I've done this. I honestly didn't know about the wrong chain. I have learned a valuable lesson from this video. The volume of you was just fine. Thank you!
SAME,, I did it Too;; like in the last vid, Why would you need to replace a clutch,, BC I put the wrong chain on my saw destroying the sprocket in the exact same way as shown in this video
Hey, this is off topic but anyone who starts their video's with SRV is the BOMB in my book!!
Awesome. You are an encyclopaedia if chainsaw knowledge. 🙂🚜🐻 Love your work.
Thanks Greg!
@@Chickanic i am away on holiday so i won't see the Q and A on Sunday. 😪
THANK U FOR THE INFO. LIKE WATCHING
In 31 yrs, put in prob a dozen clutch bearings, a few rim drives, about a dozen sprockets, maybe one clutch, and a few clutch springs, and lost count of how many bars. . I buy chain by the 100 ft roll, make my own.,I hate .325, try to stay with 3/8, and on the climbing saws, micro/ picco. Switched from 404 to 3/8 on my ms 880. Got dozens of old chains hanging in the shed, for sacrificial jobs: dirt, cement, chain link fence, fence posts, that may be imbedded in the tree. . Stay with Stihl, Husky, or Echo, for longevety. Todays hint:( Q) how do you find a nail in a tree? ( A) put a new chain on, and start cutting!😆
Very well thought out work station
Thanks!
Greetings from the southern most southern tip of Texas. Enjoy your videos.
Thanks Darlin'!
PERFECT CHAIN MAKING DEMONSTRATION! GRAB YOUR DRINK AND SOME POPCORN, THIS LIVE IS GOING TO BE AWESOME
I can't wait!! Whoop! Whoop!
Good job popping out the rivets i bend about half of mine when im making a new chain
Wow thks for the information
Excellent!
That's the struggle with chaintype, pitch an size. I use them from .404 1,6mm, 3/8 (.375) 1,6mm .325 1,6mm and 1,5mm, 3/8 LP 1,3mm and 1,1mm and at least a 1/4 (i think 1,3mm) for carving. That's only for my Personal saws....(Sorry for the measurement in mm but I'm more used to that) And it happens - I found out just in the woods that I grabbed the wrong Box of sparechains in the morning... Lots of filing work that day and a chain worn to the bone 🤣.
One thing that I found out is, that a chain with a bigger size is not always cutting faster. It's more in the grind. Get the gullet, ladys and gentlemen!
As always: Great video with Lots of knowledge shared! Thank you! 👍👍👍
I've encountered exactly this with an inherited electric chainsaw. Now at least I know what happened. Thankyou.
I grew up the slave of a chainsaw and was never allowed to touch it growing up. Swore Id never own one. I made it to 52. Now here I am learning how to maintain and operate one. I can build you a whole car, but never once operated a chain saw. I'm actually looking at getting the Echo 56 volt DCS-5000-18C2. Everything else I have is gas, but I just need one for occasional use on my property.
great informative videos. I did not know that all the needed information is
right on the end of the bar. I have to check out if you have a hand sharpening
video. I have my father in law old chainsaw that came with a round file, and
a jig. I want to touch up the blade on the old saw. I have a new still saw
that I use the most, I also have 2 pollen saws too. thank you for the education.
Absolutely brilliant video thank you very much for sharing. U.K Subscriber.
Well now that was an interesting video and this is one thing that I did know about. Back in 1994 I bought a sthil 036 and it came with the 3 25 chain and I didn't like it because it seemed to me it didn't cut fast enough and stretched too much. So I replaced the bar the chain and the sprocket to 3/8 and I still have that chain saw. I have cut tons of wood with that chainsaw and still have never had to replace the clutch, but if I ever do thanks to your video on that I can do it myself.
The 036 is a great saw. I am surprised it came with .325. Every one I have ever seen came with 3/8. Musta been a dealer special order. The saw definitely has enough power to pull a nice size bar and chain.
Gracias por toda su ayuda I fix one machine with your help
Thank you
That is why I like My local shop they also do bulk chain
It's so funny you are talking about doing the live stream with mower medic, earlier today I was working with the software to bring people into live streams for RUclips and was thinking how cool it would be if you could bring multiple people into your live streams. Can't wait for Sunday.
I can't wait! See ya Sunday Pat!!
Great information, I just wish it came out before I bought a new bar and chain on line and found I bought 2 inches shorter. I’m now a lot wiser and a little poorer.
Wish your shop was in Upstate NY. Had this Stihl bar and chain problem. Thanks to GKS they easily solved the problem with a new drive sprocket. I did not realize how to maintain each time you use the saw along with oil problems. GKS, Kahler and Sons, is overworked. I have 3 chain saws in for repairs, two with no start and no bar oil problems. Several weeks to fix them ?
So, I will take one saw back to attempt to fix the no oil and no start problem. Thanks for your Mechanic in a bottle and Ethanol shield tip. I noticed even the Ethanol Free gas is not as good as it used to be.
Hey Yall , love it
Small engine repair lines are soopo long. We NEED these videos. Over 50 years of property maintenance last 10 years I'm a huge Echo fan! Great value! Plus you're easy to look at and don't need beer to work🤣🤣🤣
Learned something today
*I have some old 1960s and 1970s Stihl saws that use the 1/4 pitch chain and 404. Only place I can find here in the Dallas area to make either chain is Richardson Saw in Richardson and A & B Lawn and Garden in Fort Worth. The 404 chain is so tough, you can hit a rock and it'll stay sharp. I have 3 of the top handle stihl 08 Super 6 horsepower saws that use 404 chain and all 3 saws are beasts.*
Good video, in general i would agree.
Is however sometimes a narrower curve chain will cut faster than a wider one on the same saw
If you have the CC's behind it, for sure, but ya gotta spend that money for a good one! LOL! Thanks for watching!
I use my chainsaw very little. This video will probably save me some time and money down the road.
Very educational video Bre. Cant wait for the live with you and MOWERMEDIC1 👍🇺🇸
Me too!
Good job
i will be waiting for sunday
i run a few custom bars that dont have a normal length. the only part of the saw you need to worry about are the guide teeth and your saws sprocket are correct. other than that you buy chains for what your bar says. but who buys chains we should be building them. :) i almost had this issue when i went to a shop and they didnt have orogen chains or name brand chains just bad 3rd party knock off chains. the package said it fit my saw but when i put it on it would not roll over the sprocket and knew it was wrong right away. thanx for showing that you should check the sprocket.
Thanks. For the effort and the video you certainly know you business darling ,old jimmy Australia
A bit jealous. I still use a hammer, punch and chain anvil when making up chains. It works but the risk of bending straps is fairly high
Where can we get the ECHO t-shirts at? Love the channel btw!! Making us Arkansans proud!
I do nothing but chain rolls, I don’t Carry a single precut loop. My usual stock is about 6 100 foot rolls of stihl chain. And upwards of 15 Oregon 100 foot rolls. Full house, skip tooth, ripping chain, etc. Even some 3/4 pitch chain to repair chains off processing units. Also a good thing to mention for the newbies is the rivet spinners actually have an A and B spinner and anvil, one for 1/4-.325 pitch, and another for 3/8-404, then an adapter for 3/4 pitch.
cool ty
Great video. I wished I had a clue about my Maccullough 1-43 I have. 20inch bar but I want a long bar and everything I read about it contradicts itself. I'll figure it out one day though. All I know is it's a .404 pitch
I follow you consistently. You do a great job teaching us "out here." I would truly like to communicate with you. I am studying to be certified as an arborist and want to start an "urban" tree service. I will climb which makes me somewhat unique. I will climb, even at age 76, up to 100 feet =/-. I know much of what I will be doing will be pruning, but I can properly fell a fairly big tree. I can go out to some friends' farms with timber for me to really get my skills. Please comment back.
Your content is amazing! I never knew any of that! ( dumb luck?)
But it was interesting mom the less.
I never heard of cutting chains to size before, never even thought of it. It was very interesting. I'll keep making sure to ask for the proper size as I've always done that, usually have the manual for a saw ( or any of my equipment ) sitting in an old filing cabinet.
Great video! Take care.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video lady
Thanks Rob!
I always converted to a rim sprocket from a star sprocket. Only cut wood for 50 years!
Yea thanks
We couldn’t see youbremove the rivots.. but we didnsee your hand. LOL
Good job. I’ve sold Oregon chain for almost 40 years, and love it that you know your stuff!!!
This is Phil Rankin, James is first name. Always a fan.
Hey Phil!!! Miss your face! Hope all is well with you! Thanks so much for watching!
Having worked a one man shop many years ago, when I could I would convert the customer to a rim drive for the chain, that way the customer could change the pitch of chain bar and rim as desired. What was the pluss side was smoother running chainsaw, chain and bar lasted longer pluss the rim lasted longer than the spur. My main saw is a Stihl 040, ran a lot of fuel through it cutting hedge, that saw can bark, oh ok padded gloves are nice when running it.
Liking vids👍for chainsaw users what parts would you offer to help make job easier out in woods especially servicing chainsaw between cuts.
BRAVO!!!! 💯💯💯
Thanks Darlin'!
Used to have a 440, sweet little saw. I found some mods that it could take. I did bump it up to a 24" bar and a 3/8 chain and found a sprocket for it somewhere. Wish I had hung onto that saw. I've got a 440e that's a dog compared to the 440.
Don't matter. Picked up a spiffy new big ole honkin Stihl last summer. Used it one time and went down in my back for the past 6 months. Finally found a tumor on my L5 vertebra and just finished radiation on that. Still can't get too far without stopping yet.
Cain't have nothing, something always comes along to steal yer fun......... lol
Just bought a used 440 myself - but so far it cuts like a dream compared to the electric saws I've used. It does have some slightly tweaky issues staying running at idle after I've completed a cut, but after watching your fuel episode I'm gonna try out some fuel I mixed myself.
Turn up the idle, top adjustment screw takes a flat head
Don't forget to clean your saw. I have a 440. Don't loan your saw to anybody. If you do, visual inspect the bottom the saw for green twigs ripped into the bottom of the saw. Don't get lazy. Inspect that saw especially if the chain isn't traveling smooth before you start the engine. Do not forget to oil or lube the very small weep hole in the front of the bar. That little hole lubes the sprocket. Again...don't let fools and screwballs borrow your tools unless they read the manual. There's a lot of fools who think they know your saw, because they ran saws in the past. Don't loan out your toys to anybody.
Good video.
Thanks!
Good thing you like a modelo 🇲🇽
Great chain Video. Is the 20 HP Echo SC-4213 chipper shredder a good machine?
Hi from Springfield Oregon
Hello!
Good video. First time seeing a chain made up. I think that was the size for my 590 timber wolf
Your 590 is 3/8 full but is only 70 drivers. Thanks for watching!
@@Chickanic you are correct my bad. I was thinking of the chain that comes with the saw 72LPX 070X. That is where I got 72
@@hphillips7425 what chain do you use on your CS590? I heard that you can use Stihl chains and also heard Oregons EXL chain is good
@@dentondunn4346 stock chain and a pferd 2 in 1 sharpener.
Really enjoy your videos. Learned quite a bit. Is Oregon chain made in the U.S.? Which is the highest quality chain available. Thanks.😊
Husqvarna 236 sprocket fits the 440 from memory.its 3/8.
