People forget that prior to 2018 the white out was commonly during the day time. I have been to several 12 and 330 whiteouts over the years. Obviously the night is better, but you would be surprised how great it is in the day as well.

Was it not the first full stadium Whiteout in 2007 against Notre Dame? Close to 20 years but not quite...

First unofficial White Out was in 2004, and it became an official event in 2007

The Whiteout against a top team is always one of the best games of the season both on the field and on tv ratings. I don't see how there's a money issue or where a sacrifice would be required... that argument doesn't exactly math out.

Correct…if the White Out actually happens against the best home opponent for PSU and it’s a night game. Which it hasn’t been for some time due to time slots allotted to PSU for it’s top home games. That’s the issue for PSU fans.

@stateofstate Pardon my ignorance, Do we have to play when the TV companies say so? Why not our house, our rules? Why can't we dictate to them when the game will be. I find it hard to believe that there aren't companies drooling for a "whiteout" contract. Be bold, break the mold, or in this case, a whack contract. This is depriving fans & players (current & future) of a meaningful advantage in the "right" game. People who haven't experienced the Mo Bomba Michigan Moment featured in NCAA25 don't get it. I was on the 50, 8 rows up, I know how much of an impact it can have on people, especially the recruits we need and haven't been landing. We beat Ohio St in a whiteout again and BOOM...utilized effectively & Guess what...WE BACK!

Is the time of year a factor? A night game in November makes it hard for everyone to wear white. Who has a white jacket? My money is on the UCLA game to show the new conference member how it’s done.

“The Big Ten needs Penn State.”
That statement COULD BE taken as… Hey, Big Ten, maybe Penn State should check with the SEC to see if they are more willing to work with us on this issue.
    (After all, We Are… Unrivaled).
I don’t really think that could happen, but… with all the conference movement these days… it COULD be taken that way.

This strikes me as politics in the guise of sports. Fox's "big noon kickoff" doesn't have the gravitas or 'tradition power' of the Whiteout or even some of the other tradition games that are big events in college football. Seems like Fox doesn't want to allow a competing idea to exist. Their approach to this question is, at very least, disrespectful of the things the fans love about this sport. Not sure why they can't see that.
Other point: who is agreeing to this at the B1G level? That person or group is also blind....

James Franklin will make sure that we have a whiteout for 2024.

I believed for years, part of the "Whiteout" was to cover up or undo a mistake. Do we have the power to make OSU a night game? If so we should stick to our guns on this. Contracts and bureaucratic red tape stopping an "organic fan movement" is really lame and timid

Thanks for discussing with level head, despite the tool that is trolling the comment section here.

People can talk about this all they like, and we all can agree it's about ratings because ratings= money. True, but there is no way you're going to tell me that PSU going against OSU in primetime would not be their highest rated game. Saturday at noon can't possibly measure up to those numbers simply because the average fan has too much to do at that time on a weekend.

The B1G does not care about PSU. We learned that in 1994 that in 2014.

94 yeah, but do you mean 2016?

@@kevinchandler179 No, I mean the Paterno "rush to judgment " mess. Tooj the name off the trophy and forced PSU capitulation instead of defending us. What did they do to Michigan State over the assaulting doctor? That would be nada!

We don't need the whiteout every year. I would rather save the whiteout for a night game against one of the top two opponents. A whiteout during the day or against anyone else is just another gimic game. Being more selective about when we play the whiteout and not guaranteeing it every year will make those games even more special.
