Yes he was 18 when he recorded this. He was 16 when Eric B for president/My Melody dropped to the public . He was 17 when the album Paid In Full dropped in stores. Yes he single handedly changed the way people rapped at 17 years old. People like to act like he was older because of the tone & vocabulary in which he spoke, but you can’t argue release dates & his birthday. He was a monster from word go. If you came up in that era of hiphop you know it’s looked at like this…. Before Rakim & After Rakim. All those nonsense (Mickey Mouse/cat in da hat) raps went out the window when he first dropped. Immediately.
Back in the day they used to have rap battles, like the last scene in 8 mile, in this song Rakim is describing the panic attack the other rappers get when battling him, " Suddenly you feel like your in a horror flick, grab your heart and wish for tomorrow quick, music's a clue when I come your warned, apocalypse now when I'm done your gone" before Rakim rap was simple rhymes, basic math, then Rakim came along with calculus , this is why Eminem and Jay-z have him in their top 5
I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT LIKE THAT!!! And I’m ah old head!!! How old are you?!? LOL But I was/am a scholar, especially in high school. (Before the world, knocked me off center…LOL) And mathematics was always my main course. You are correct!! Rakim was coming with advanced calculus while everyone else was doing algebra. KRS-1 was on calculus level as well, but Rakim was a notch or two above him. THAT IS WHY they have held my top two spots…and I doubt anyone can knock them off. Thanks for that mathematical hip hop analysis!!! Perfect..!!! 👍🏾
The best. If you wonder what it reminds you of, maybe it is the same thing it reminds me of. I was in the marching band, and I've always thought his delivery reminds me of one of our marching cadences. He spits like a snare drum.
Rakim was and is the greatest Rap lyricists of all time. Some of the all time great Rappers in the history of hip hop, still verify this! For the record Rakim was a 5%er! The 5% Nation of God's on earth is an offshoot of the Nation of Islam🕌 and many 5%ers were the originators of Hip Hop! Just food for thought💭💡 Assalamualaikum ☝️🤲✌️🕊️
Rakim is the pioneer of the internal Rhyme Scheme. He was bending multiple syllable words in between sentences and linking them together like a conversation. Innovator🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The beat is just taken from Funky Drummer by James Brown and the JB's (Clyde Stubberfield drumming). It's literally the most sampled drum beat of all time. It couls remind you of endless songs because it is in endless songs.
Great review. If you want to hear another hard-hitting rhyme flow from Rakim, try "Casualties Of War". Listen to the more updated version with the video. The video had more of a storyline.
Other songs tho by Ra would be: let the rhythm hit em, no omega, in the ghetto, it’s nothing, message in the song, love 4 sale, untouchables and don’t sweat the technique
@cyresscarlton5612 If you listen Rakim probably was the first to cures on A track in my melody he says ...You said you control me ,so now you owe me ,so pull out your paper ✏️ pull out your cut ,pull up A chair 💺 and I'm tear "Shit" up my name is Rakim Allah..
Go into your kitchen or bathroom and turn the faucet on. See how it flows? Now turn your radio on and play Rakim. Same flow. Todays MC’s don’t have an actual flow. Rakim rides a beat like an instrument. His voice is an instrument itself.
I don't think he says "please or pleases." I hear "sounds did not only pounds but plagues your eardrums. It's a fearified freestyle, not a loveafied freestyle. I don't think pleases is adequate to the lyrical context of the song as a whole. Then he says, " I'll sit back and observe the whole scenery then nonchalantly tell you what it means to me. I don't think his intent is to please the listener. I think his intent to strike fear in the listener because who's to say that who's ever listening might want to step up and challenge him. Remember, he was 18 years old. That's my perspective, and I'm sticking to it. 😂😂😂😂
@@careless-minds he doesn't have a lyric video for that particular song. But you'll be able to understand every word anyway. So it should be all good. Just check the schemes and layered bars

Rakim is the fines lyricist of any generation of rap.
He was 18...and he told me he wrote it in the studio... PREMATURE GENIUS 🎤🎤 🎤🎤🎤
YUP this was one is classic. He has one called "Run for Cover" peep that one.
That's the gem ppl really over look!!!! Run for Cover is dope!
"Run For Cover" is a criminally underrated masterpiece!
He's rhyming over the beat like a jazz horn player would freestyle a solo
Punisher!
What’s good Careless Minds💯💯
Ur next Rakim Reaction has to be
“Let THe Rhythm Hit EM”
These are “Gun Bars” from Ra without cussing!!!!!!!!!!
He means after he rhymes let the Mic rest in peace...if you don't, his soul will release.

"You come in my realm you get beat!" One of the hardest lines ever. To rhyme it with 'Elm Street', now that's just Rakim.
One thing never mentioned is that rah the god mc never cursed once in a verse. Not once
He did curse, but it was later. You couldn't fuck around with Rah with an army. That was the lyric

New RAKIM ALBUM DROPPING JULY 2024.. PRODUCED ENTIRELY BY RAKIM ALLAH!!
No he said blaze your eardrums meaning burn too!!
Rakim caused other rappers to have to go back to the pad and rewrite they shit. He caused rappers to to change their lyrics, cadence, and style.

Only thing close to this flow wise is the punisher...but Ra has many styles...nothing sounds like this.
