I expected the Good Place to be the Bad Place at the beginning but there was such a sense of genuineness and sincerity to the show that it convinced me that there wasn't going to be a twist at all. And then they had the twist!
"It's as bad a place as this place. " that's your quick answer. The good - or bad - place is a methaphor for the world we are living in. You may have heard of the saying "hell is other people". This is what the demon in charge of the good place counts on. At the same time people are inherently good, which is why his plan doesn't work out in the end. The quick answer sounds boring though. It's far more entertaining to watch. Especially when you don't see the twists coming. It's only two seasons so far with a total of 25 episodes. Doesn't take that much time to catch up.
I still think The Good Place should be #1. It was set up, when you rewatch you can see it...but I NEVER saw it coming, and it changes everything! The best, the best, the best!!!
@Madman -- Um... not really. They never told that guy he was in "the good place." He simply thought he was. It *could* have inspired The Good Place... but, truth be told, superhero movies take a lot more from Greek mythology and Star Wars "rips off" a lot of previous movies (including exact shots)... so it's not a big deal. Plus, the way that TGP did it was great.
Jrew Art no it's inspired in part by a play written by Sartre (also maybe Beckett?) . They take tons of philosophical principles from various philosophers. The Play's Original title is L'enfer C'est les Autres ('Hell is other people') and it's considered to be an important philosophy piece. Twilight Zone just was inspired by the same piece.
While the Red Wedding was a fantastic twist in Game of Thrones, in my opinion, it's not quite the best of the series. For me, the best twist was Ned Stark getting beheaded at the end of the first season because most of the episodes leading up to it made you think he was gonna be the Jack Bauer, or the Walter White, or the Rick Grimes of the show and then, seemingly out of nowhere, they ACTUALLY kill him. It also solidified the idea that no one on the series is safe, no matter how important they seem.
James Swarens I thought it was going to be on the list...the only ones who knew were the ones who have read the books, I’m reading the books now that series have passed the books.
It also come out nowhere in the books, the first time I read it I was totally shock and keep hoping for any last second something... everything was pointed to him being the lead character even when you had a few other POV it was an amazing twist.
I was watching an episode with a friend who had never seen or heard of the show, dean died like usual and she was so upset not only that he died (she took a quick liking to him) but because I wasn’t even upset
Yeah, I didn't saw it coming at all. I remember when people were so shocked by this that they were searching for explanations like triple agent or mind control but nope- Agents of Shield proofed that their balls are HUGE. SPOILERS for entire show There was a lot of shocking plot twist on that show like Skye is Quake, what is Framework, Fitz's double personality, Daisy coming back to Hive but this may be the most important because it was the first huge plot twist on AoS.
Brandon Grazioso Yeah I was hoping that would get number 1. I never saw that coming. Glad something from Power Rangers was on here, but I knew none of the others.
What I liked was he was portrayed as such a Boy Scout and some viewers complained the character was stiff & boring. Then he kills a handful of SHIELD agents and becomes the most interesting character on the show.
Hey, WatchMojo, just a suggestion: Instead of saying the twist first, announce the tv show or film that you're about to talk about, THEN reveal the twist.
Still remembered the shock on LOST when it was revealed to be a flashforward. That and season 1when Locke was actually wheelchair bound before the flight.
Magic King; Mary everyone always dies, the whole point of the ending was that after everyone died there was a sort of purgatory that they were together in briefly
Honestly one of the shocking twists for me was at the end of season two of Veronica Mars. Who the bus bomber was and what he had done to Veronica was such a shock because he seemed like this sweet nerdy kid it was just so unexpected but no one ever talks about Veronica Mars
Really? What part? That he's a pedophile? I thought that was obvious (or at least a possibility) from the very beginning, since it is explicitly shown how he interacts with a child at the diner.
White Christmas had multiple twists, and really fucked me up. They probably didn't list Black Mirror because it's an anthology, not a story with the same characters from one episode to the next.
Yeah a lot of people got some of Lost's more grounded twists real easily, such as Claire being Jack's sister or Lock's father being the same guy who caused the death of Sawyer's parents by conning them..but there were a lot that no one saw coming...and it is still too this day my favorite show ever, just for how well laid out the mythology is (screw what everyone else says, the show answered almost everything I wanted to know, and the questions it didn't answer..I didn't really want or need..and am just happy to come to my own conclusion about how it means).
#1 The cunt littlefinger betrays Ned #2 Hodor the legend holds his door #3 Joffrey the crying little bitch dies at his own weddin #4 #RipStarkFamAtRedWedding
janimom I don't think that is the whole concept of Westworld. Anyway this is a list for the plot twist you didn't see coming so I don't think it matters if you are expecting a twist. It just matters that it was a particular twist that you did not see coming. Game of Thrones, 24, Big Little Lies and others made this list even though you're expecting plot twist in those as well. So while a twist out of nowhere is nice I think with most twist you are already expecting something but it is still a good one if you didn't see that particular twist coming.
I feel like the reveal that River is Amy and Rory’s daughter in Doctor Who should be at least honorable mention. Maybe do a list of the biggest twist reveals in Doctor Who. There is the River twist, the Jack twist, the face of Boe twist, the Master twist in season three of New Who, and so many more.
Lauren Stanciel Agreed, I just finished the 10th series this year, and the finale for Capaldi's doctor, so many great moments, (like his daughter being revealed in Tenants era), I hope they make a top 10 list of twists from Doctor Who.
How in the world did you miss the finale of Broadchurch? ThisWhoDunnit drama series had the entire UK talking, guessing and betting on who the killer is. Everyone had their suspicions but BARELY anyone got it right, the husband of Olivia Coleman's character, one of the two leading detectives on the case. He killed a kid and is revealed to be a paedophile. Definitely deserved to be on this list.
Dude... I just finished the first season tonight. That was an incredible lead up to that finale, and genius. The show kept dropping hints left and right and STILL surprised with that reveal.
Dana says- Yes, Zach! And back when it was revealed that he was the Gorgomon's apprentice and killed someone the first time, and then again for when they revealed that he *didn't* actually kill anyone when he was Gorgomon's apprentice, he just took the blame and let them put him in a mental hospital for years. Fantastic twists. Also, Vincent Nigel Murray's shooting and Booth & Brennan sleeping together the first time- those were shockers too.
Actually, There was a Twilight Zone Episode where they used the Very Exact Twist of the Good Place. Sebastian Cabot was the Guide or whovever is called. I forgot the name of the Actor who played the Robber who is shot dead and then is sent to what he at first thinks is the "Good Place" where he gets anything he wants and always Wins- He gets Woman, Money anything he wants, but is still Unhappy. He then says he wish he was in the other place and the Sebastian Cabot in a Non "Mr. French" ways tells him this is the Other Place with Sebastian Cabot laughing sinisterly to close the Episode. It rerminds me of how some People say Hell is being Cut off from God.Also, the other saying of "Be Careful What you Pray for, You just might Get It."
Battlestar Galactica; The real twist isnt that the original earth was a wasteland, it was that it isnt actually our earth. The last episode shows the second named earth they find and stay on evolves, even showing MSN program on TV and other things from our earth. Implying our earth isnt the first "Earth".
Suggestion for the sequel of this list: Tell people up front which shows will be twist-spoiled, before revealing the twists. "Spoiler Alert" without context is not helpful.
I know that many people have a problem with how LOST ended and i understand that but the twists throughout the series, especially the Nr 1 in the video, are often genius. I loved them.
“John Doe is George!!” First time seeing that I was like “holy shit noooooo” (and cried and cried and cried) Now I just cry! (Yes I still cry at it! And not ashamed of it!)
@chucky wow thank you captain obvious for reminding us that shows are in fact not REAL. I almost forgot that when I watched that show in wich a alien time lord traveled around the universe with his mother-in-law pregnant with his future wife. Seriously, let people cry about their show. We KNOW it's not real, that's the point, we are here for the stories.
Great list. Just one scene is missing imo. The one from Agents of Shield Season 2 where you find out Skye is actually Daisy Johnson and is an Inhuman. Definitely changed the entire dynamic of the show.
the last 2 mins of Newhart where Bob Hartley wakes up with his wife from the Bob Newhart Show and says he's just had a very strange dream. No ONE say it coming!!
steven alvarez But why? First this was children t.v. show second I'm I suppose to believe that RPM big reveal was bigger than something like Captain Picard reveal as Locutus of Borg and universe is screwed moment that Watchmojo left out.
mkleejr34 That was a great plot twist! I didn't saw it coming at all, mainly because I never thought that Power Rangers would have balls to do something like this. Actually the whole season was ballsy but when it turned out that actions of team's mentor led to end of the world where basically whole Earth population was killed because of this (except something like 200 people) that were huge balls for PR.
That was a good plot twist! 17 years of PR so I was sure that PR doesn't have any balls. Actually this whole season was ballsy and darker but when it turned out that actions of team's mentor led to end of the world where basically whole Earth population was killed because of this (except something like 200 people) I was shock.
The scene with the Col. in the next episode was heartbreaking as well. Showing him she is paying for her mistakes and the only thing she can do is help save what's left of the world just pulls every heart string there is. Olivia Tennent has some damn fine acting chops.
Malcolm Aaron power rangers wild force- Cole spends half of the season searching for his parents only to find out that they had been dead since he was a baby and that the one to kill them was master org
no it didnt and thats why even though the show is high quality barely anyone actually watches it. Most stopped a couple of ewpisodes in and never went back.
I remember when I first saw the Flashforward plot twist on Lost. I was completely fooled and blown away. I still remember the goosebumps and excitement I felt afterwards.
nice to see RPM make the list, too many people just treat it like a typical kid's show but Power Rangers has been surprisingly deep & well-written in past seasons ( just not since Saban got the license back & started working with Nickelodeon....they treat it like a glorified toy commercial these days ). RPM was dark, deep, and full of some of the best character development I've ever seen on TV. And what's even more impressive, is that they created RPM out of one of the cheesiest seasons of Sentai ever ( look up Engine Sentai Go-Onger if you want proof... ).
The key word here is "plot twist," as in, it was planned as part of the plot of the series. For Dallas, it was just a deus ex machina - and a hated one at that - to get things back to the way they were before.
A good twist SEEMS like it comes from out of nowhere because the story had you looking in the wrong direction, a bad twist ACTUALLY comes from out of nowhere because it makes no sense, derailing the story for the sake of a swerve.
I remember being a very little kid watching that Mash episode. It disturbed me greatly, I remember crying. I think it was the first time those emotions have ever been stirred up in me as a very young child. It definitely stuck with me.
I feel like the 100 has been good at supplying the twists the mount weather reveal at the end of season one, lexas betrayal, the reveal of Alie, lexas beath was definitely unexpected and the whole new apocalypse thing
one of the best shows on TV IMO.. Octavia's descent from rebel with a cause to a merciless tyrant has been very well done (even though I hate that I hate her now)
One of my favorite tv twists was in Legend of Korra when Varrick turned out to be attacking his own ships in order to perpetuate a war he could profit off of. And when he framed Mako for stealing the last of Asami's inventory as well. Actually pretty deep for a kids show.
Agents of shield is literally a show full of great plot twists it´s deservs a list on its one. Just love this so show hope we will get a season 6!! Spolier: just to mention a few: Ward being Hydra TAHITI Daisy is Inhuman Hive the Framework and LMDS Fitz as the doctor Deke is fitzsimmons grandson
Madylein there's a rumor going around on Reddit, from the same place that had the first season 5 rumors, that the show was already renewed for Season 6. I know it's just a rumor, but it gives me hope
The good place is the only comedy I have ever seen that had a HUGE plot twist and makes you want to watch the season all over again👍🏿
BoJack Horseman.
That reveal Eleanor did was amazing! Then Michael's immediate demeanor change....
Brains before BS riiiiiiiight
You're kidding right?
@@jasminee1357 His laugh gave me goosebumps
I expected the Good Place to be the Bad Place at the beginning but there was such a sense of genuineness and sincerity to the show that it convinced me that there wasn't going to be a twist at all. And then they had the twist!
KingOfMadCows I never thought it was the bad place. I always thought they just screwed up by placing Eleanor there. That twist was so fantastic.
And it didn't stop there. Every few episodes it was a completely different show.
Seelen Sturm it’s crazy because he show started out quite slow. But it really picked up.
Watch the show! And watch it from the beginning.
It's as bad a place as this place.

Naomi Lamont the good place has good plot twists :) and I love it.
Naomi Lamont it ripped off the Twilight Zone. Check out the episode "A Nice Place to Visit"
It's stolen from an old episode of the twilight zone.
The Bent Neck Lady reveal on Haunting of Hill House was really good too
That stunned me!
Oh yeah you're right !!! I love the Haunting of Hill House.
i loved tnay so much!! but then the second season disappointed me :(
Number 11

I’m here for the Good Place
THOT Slayer same here
Same

Literally finished season 1 in 24 hrs..best twist i've seen in a show in a long time
What about Supernatural When Dean died and came back to life? Oh wait, that happened every other season. Never mind.
Yup
And it's not a plot twist :v
I was watching an episode with a friend who had never seen or heard of the show, dean died like usual and she was so upset not only that he died (she took a quick liking to him) but because I wasn’t even upset
Dean opening his eyes revealing to be a demon was cool.
@@jjmanzano9 But i think it was not a plot twist exactly
I'm sorry but how is Elliot from Mr Robot hallucinating NOT part of this list? Not even an honorable mention. That twist was CRAZY
That was a stupid and predictable twist.
@@imworkingonit6328 stupid? No. Predictable? Not for everyone. Still it wasn’t there for shock value, they did a lot of more stuff with that twist

Ward being hydra was a great twist
Brandon Grazioso better still in the simulation he was the opposite and good guy in hydra ! Lol
Brandon Grazioso yup, dude was such a boyscout, and then he(spoiler?)
Came back as the new big bad who apparently is basically the devil so, yeah.

Exactly, otherwise you just kind of hope they don't spoil something you plan to watch.

What about Violet’s death in American Horror Story: Murder House?
Jesse Orrange or Queenies death in Hotel
I'd love a list of AHS twists.
And when it's you that finds your body...
That was a great twist. But I realized it right before the reveal, when she was running through the house.
Ward is Hydra. Glad to see it on the list
What about Ted's Wife was DEAD for the whole story, and we were wasting our time for 9 seasons!
DryBones271 what series is this?
Pedro Soares How I Met Your Mother
DryBones271 tbh it wasn’t hinted a number of times
That was pretty obvious to me
I think we all saw that coming. If you didn't you were blind. Especially in the episode about the umbrella.
William is the Man in Black from Westworld should have made this list...
Yeah that shocked me
Meh a lot of people figured it out before hand
true!
Trevor Duke I figured it out as they where building to the reveal and I can’t decide if that’s bad or brilliant.
Or Bernard being a robot
So happy to see that the "We Have to Go Back plot twist in #1. This changed Television forever.
MASH’s twist was truly heartbreaking.
Completely!!! Just this little tidbit made me tear up.
Ward is Hydra had me shook

Fitz torturing Daisy in the way the made it was definitely a surprise. It definitely hurt more because it was Fitz.

Yes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Grant Ward being Hydra was one of a big plot twist for season 1
No sign of Ben's death in Scrubs or River Song's identity in Doctor Who? They both deserved at least mentioning.
Black Mirror (especially Shut up and dance)
Yeah shut up and dance shook me to my core with the ending
White bear!!!
I would also like to submit White Bear for consideration. That was my favorite episode.

Bob Lillard: I thought it clever that they snuck her onto the set. NOBODY knew!
Hydra Agents Revealed from Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is the best :)
Before watching:
Agents of SHIELD better be in this video, that show has so many good plot twists.
Honourable mentions will do.. I guess!
It certainly had better twists than the Lorca one from STD.
RajveerN1
Honorable mentions are like 11th or more
RajveerN1 There's been enough that you can expect a part 2 for this topic in the future, im sure. Shield will be on there for sure
Not really, but it is better than nothing.
Nice that Power Rangers made this list.
steven alvarez rpm was one of the best ones so yeah.
steven alvarez But why? First this was children t.v. show second I'm I suppose to believe that RPM big reveal was bigger than something like Captain Picard reveal as Locutus of Borg and universe is screwed moment that Watchmojo left out.
mkleejr34 That was a great plot twist! I didn't saw it coming at all, mainly because I never thought that Power Rangers would have balls to do something like this. Actually the whole season was ballsy but when it turned out that actions of team's mentor led to end of the world where basically whole Earth population was killed because of this (except something like 200 people) that were huge balls for PR.
not a fan of rpm. but i dont hate. time force and wild force are my favorites
I think that RPM, Time Force and eventually In Space are the best Power Ranger seasons. They are really great for a kid show.
YES!!! S.H.I.E.L.D. made into honourable mentions.
I loved the twist of Ward being Hydra~ I honestly just love the show so damn much~
Ohhh shit Power Rangers RPM on here:')
Charity Rich sameee!!
Fantastic show.
That was a good plot twist! 17 years of PR so I was sure that PR doesn't have any balls. Actually this whole season was ballsy and darker but when it turned out that actions of team's mentor led to end of the world where basically whole Earth population was killed because of this (except something like 200 people) I was shock.
Yeah I loved this season because really the villains already won and the heroes are defending the last city of humanity.
The scene with the Col. in the next episode was heartbreaking as well. Showing him she is paying for her mistakes and the only thing she can do is help save what's left of the world just pulls every heart string there is. Olivia Tennent has some damn fine acting chops.
The walking dead- Sophia was dead the whole time
Malcolm Aaron Yeah that was a Mindfuck for me too.
Nah, expected her to be dead. The twisty part was that she was in Hershels barn.
Malcolm Aaron power rangers wild force- Cole spends half of the season searching for his parents only to find out that they had been dead since he was a baby and that the one to kill them was master org
IKR!! Dang it!!
*sighs thinking of the time when TWD was actually compelling
Ward is Hydra, Hail Hydra! Wait Hale is Hydra.
Yeah, Lost was great. Amazing show.
Umm, what about “Monk” when Captain Stottlemyer’s girlfriend, Linda Fusco, turned out to be a murderer?
The Good Place is bae😩👌
General Harris It ripped off the Twilight Zone. See the episode "A Nice Place to Visit"
Madman. Twilight zone is usually shit though.
agents of SHIELD is underrated, it's an amazing show.
Agreed! It hit a few bumps along the way, but especially the latest season was absolutely fantastic again!
dudi laroma agreed and Daisy's transformation throughout the series is amazing and heartbreaking
problem with agents of shield is that you have to go trough around 15 boring to mediocre/generic episodes before it kicks off and becomes good.
Blazekingz actually it got interesting in the first second
no it didnt and thats why even though the show is high quality barely anyone actually watches it. Most stopped a couple of ewpisodes in and never went back.
Ward is HYDRA >>> mirror universe Lorca
Thank you so much for including Power Rangers.
That MASH one still gets me! I know they always had their serious moments but that episode was such a contrast to the comedy.
One that should have been mentioned: the series finale of Newhart.
Newhart. You beat me to it.
I can't take this list serious without Mr robot.
I mean, I saw the fightclubby twist coming in season one, but there was so much more. The one in season two took me completely by surprise.
I expected some moments from season 3. Not gonna tell which one if you haven't seen it yet :)
YES! they got one of the original voices
Idk, mine is still ‘I Ross, take thee Rachel’ from Friends as the biggest twist
does it count as a twist though?
I was going to say that.
And yes it's a twist, because it destroyed the wedding and sent Ross' life in a completely new direction.
I remember when I first saw the Flashforward plot twist on Lost. I was completely fooled and blown away. I still remember the goosebumps and excitement I felt afterwards.
how about violet actually being dead in american horror story
slim i agree! This was a great plot twist!!
yes! I think that's the most a twist has ever taken me by surprise during a show
There are like 5 from agents of shield you could have put above the vast majority of this list
nice to see RPM make the list, too many people just treat it like a typical kid's show but Power Rangers has been surprisingly deep & well-written in past seasons ( just not since Saban got the license back & started working with Nickelodeon....they treat it like a glorified toy commercial these days ). RPM was dark, deep, and full of some of the best character development I've ever seen on TV. And what's even more impressive, is that they created RPM out of one of the cheesiest seasons of Sentai ever ( look up Engine Sentai Go-Onger if you want proof... ).
The top 3 are actually on point. 3 brilliant moments.
That episode of Mash got me hooked! I used to think it was boring but I was hooked ever since
The ice truck killer is Dexter’s brother - Dexter
Walter White poisoned the child with lily of the valley - Breaking bad
"We have to go back!" -- Doc Brown, quote made famous circa a little earlier than Lost
When does Doc say that? I've seen the trilogy 5749375346 times and I don't remember him saying that.
That M.A.S.H. episode still breaks my heart.
I was so glad that Ward's Hydra reveal was included!
That Sherlock had me SHOOK! 😂
*sees Eleanor in thumbnail*
*Knows she's from the good place*
*CLICKS QUICKER THAN SONIC CAN RUN*
What about "it was all a dream" plot twist from Dallas? That's perhaps one of the most iconic and one that's often referenced in pop culture.
This is a list of BEST plot twists. The Dallas twist is widely hated.
That goes on the *bad* plot twist list.
Tbh the “we’re all infected” twist from the walking dead should’ve been at least a honorable mention
I remember being a very little kid watching that Mash episode. It disturbed me greatly, I remember crying. I think it was the first time those emotions have ever been stirred up in me as a very young child. It definitely stuck with me.
I found Hold the door worse than the Red Wedding.
That's not really a plot twists though, just too tragic scene.
I feel like the 100 has been good at supplying the twists the mount weather reveal at the end of season one, lexas betrayal, the reveal of Alie, lexas beath was definitely unexpected and the whole new apocalypse thing
one of the best shows on TV IMO.. Octavia's descent from rebel with a cause to a merciless tyrant has been very well done (even though I hate that I hate her now)
I hate this show. Most things would not have happened if not for Clarke. She is the worst character in the whole show.
#1: every twilight zone episode
Breaking Bad's "Lilly of the Valley" scene and Sons Of Anarchy's plan against Agent Stahl should have been on here.
BLOOD RED BLAZE Some good choices 👌
I loved the Mary is an assassin twist! ❤
One of my favorite tv twists was in Legend of Korra when Varrick turned out to be attacking his own ships in order to perpetuate a war he could profit off of. And when he framed Mako for stealing the last of Asami's inventory as well. Actually pretty deep for a kids show.
Pleeease make more top 10 about Lost! This is my favorite show!
Behindthefog the constant episode in season 4 was one of the best episodes in the series
Behindthefog shut the fuck up lmao it just didn’t go the way you wanted it to. It was an amazing show from start to finish
Season 5 was the BEST season!
Before watching this video I say agents of shield should have a place on this list
Welp WatchMojo you disappoint me
Agents of shield is literally a show full of great plot twists it´s deservs a list on its one. Just love this so show hope we will get a season 6!!
Spolier:
just to mention a few:
Ward being Hydra
TAHITI
Daisy is Inhuman
Hive
the Framework and LMDS
Fitz as the doctor
Deke is fitzsimmons grandson
Madylein there's a rumor going around on Reddit, from the same place that had the first season 5 rumors, that the show was already renewed for Season 6. I know it's just a rumor, but it gives me hope
Robert Ziomek thanks that's let me hope too ;)
There's already a trailer for season 6!
Ward had me SO SHOOOK I cried
The good place...
Man that one hit me out of left field for a show I wasn’t so unassuming of
How about Mr Robot being in prison all along
TheVideo Commenter Or Mr.Robot being his father AND a ghost!
That was cool but Fight Club did it first
And? It still had the same effect on me
It wouldn't have made it to the list is all i'm saying the twist is still good
