The scene with Stephen getting caught in the woods with that girl from the pageant was an incredible scene. Coming from a former drug addict I can’t tell you how hard it hit home and how the whole addiction to blood throughout the show making vampires do inhuman things was such an analogous piece to drug addiction
That’s what I was thinking. I grew up in an area where my neighbors and even my own father was an addict(I didnt know him just the repercussions of his actions) and I stay away from alcohol because of that, I don’t drink at all so I don’t put myself in that position. I totally saw the analogy of drug addiction with Rippers. I’m surprised more people haven’t noticed or even commented on it. I hope you are doing well and staying strong, it’s hard to do. I d never indulged in any substances recreationally(I have chronic pain so I do have to be careful but I’ve never done it to get high) so I can’t say I know what it’s like but I’ve seen loved ones deal with trying to get clean, it’s not easy and it doesn’t happen overnight. But one thing I’ve seen help is God, God is good and he DOES love you, He loves you even with all your faults and screw ups, He STILL loves you. I wish you the best. Just repent and turn to Him and He will receive you with open arms. You are loved. I wish you well. Sobriety isn’t easy, I wish you well. 💕
It felt the same way for me in terms of having an eating disorder. I can’t describe the genuine horror of what eating does to me and my mind. Having control over myself is the hardest thing, the thought of food is something I fixate on all day long but the guilt that follows afterwards is something I could recognise in the show every time a vampire would give into their need for human blood. I could see the same for drug addiction and alcoholism.
I didn't watch tvd when it premiered but as an addict the ripper storyline was the most real and relatable for in the entire series. Especially after the fact. When you're using you don't care as much about who you hurt. But once you get sober and get a clear head you see it and the guiltily is almost debilitating.
I haven't watched tvd, but the ripper storyline seems like a clever analogy for addiction. The fact he tries so hard to fight it, then when he starts, he can't stop.

@That One Guy Stefans Humanity was on at that time he had his Humanity turned off when Klaus compelled him to episodes later and once Klaus compelled Stefan to be free of him so Stefan had his humanity dimmered after Klaus freed him

Just finished season 8 which is literally the saddest season for the two brothers. But I HAVE to say ... Stefan is PURE evil without his emotions. When his emotions are on, he spends every lasting second trying to fight it. He’s always been worse than his brother.
Gabriel Nispel it’s not his fault though because even if Stefan is worse than Damon at least he tries to become a better person he TRIES to be a better man. Damon doesn’t he just doesn’t care. Stefan is still the better man no matter what.
He got his ripper instincts from his mother, it’s not his fault he can’t control it, he has a good heart, unlike Damon who enjoys killing. He’s always been the *better* brother. And don’t even use the excuse that he forced his brother to become a vampire. 😂👏
