In this video I restore a rare Bandai Electronics FL Gun Professional console. The console as you can see on the video the console is beige even on the box and my de-yellowing method had almost no effect, so I'm sure this was the original color. However it was still unusable because the battery terminal were corroded so badly. The corrosion had even broken one of the terminals. I didn't even bother to test it before opening it up because the terminals were too corroded to conduct the electricity anyways.
To disassemble the console I had to desolder the battery terminals. One of the terminal was so badly corroded it was hard to desolder. The oxide layer was holding the wire and I had to pull really hard to get it out of the oxide while heating the non-oxidized solder on the inside.
Once everything was taken apart I was able to test the device with external power source. Luckily it worked despite the board having some tacky substance on it. I cleaned the board by blowing off loose dirt and then I washed it with isopropyl alcohol.
The back label was peeled off because it didn't look like it would survive washing and deyellowing process. I don't do that with Gameboys because I know the labels used on those wont be damaged. The label was also damaged and yellowed so I recreated it in photoshop and my good friend was able to print me a new label.
Huge thank you for watching the video. I have added some link bellow to some of the tools and gear needed. The links are an easy and free way to support my work. They are affiliate links and after you go to amazon through one of those links and buy anything (not only the product I've linked) I get a small commision. I'm french, so here is the translation of the instructions :
"Two moving cowboys must shoot each other.
Cactuses are obstacles, three hits destroy them.
However, a stagecoach is passing by regularly between the fighters, and if you shoot it, you lose points."
You're welcome :)
Im learning french and my skills werent enough to fully understand merci beaucoup 😘
@@agustinfigueroa2516 A pleasure to help :D
héhé there is typo at "enter les combattants" classique du Japon
lol i thought the cactus was hostage on their knees and hands up in the air.
Effectivement il y a une erreur à la base, mais il a aussi créé une erreur en refaisant l'étiquette: la diligence est devenue la "diligense". Dommage....
It's incredible that it doesn't have a volume control. I can just imagine the sounds from the back seat on long car rides through the french countryside......
Considering that the "music" is the first two bars of Hockey Night in Canada, I suggest the Quebec countryside?
LOL I was going to mention the same thing. Yup road trips would be sooo much fun. :P
@@Ea-Nasir_Copper_Co That would make sense. He mentioned that the label was in French so I immediately thought of France not Canada
Yeah that game console will be flying out through the window. That sound is migraine generator.
As a french girl i can assure you that this evil object would have passed through the window of the car x)

I’m still convinced that Odd Tinkering is the ducktor but with a human assistant
Obviously the ducktor needs more isopropyl alcohol
Telekinetic communication on what to do next
🤣🤣🤣
Obviously
i fear the Ducktor might be a quack.
I think that's the first time I hear this guy's voice...
Thank you, sponsor
Yeah me too :/ I was shooketh when he started talking
Nice to hear it didn't distract you too much
@@OddTinkering now it's time to show us your face :)
i think its not @Odd Thinkering voice but ductor voice 😅😂
You also gotta appreciate tha fact he has a timer for it so we know when it ends.
I love how the game sounds like a microwave dying a painful death.
Think it's because there are no speaker holes. I dunno why but it refused to reheat my pizza
I grew up with these sounds. Ah, nostalgia...
Now i want to play chopin funeral march on my microwave
Didn’t know microwaves had femurs

You are the only vintage console restoration dude worth watching. I know you do tons of other stuff, but please always have vintage gaming in your back pocket. I, we, LOVE it.
Woah I haven’t seen this console before
It's quite rare I understand. But I really liked that it's a hand held with multiplayer
Yeah it was really neat.
Kai Bethune gamer I too have also not seen this console before
Same
@@OddTinkering me too
I never thought id here that "when you die" sound again. Most of the hand helds in the 80s i had came with that sound drove me nuts.
please god dont let me here that in my sleep tonight.
that "when you die" sound is called The Funeral March, part of a larger piece of classical music named Piano Sonata No. 2 by Chopin. look it up!

It’s amazing how we can reach people in different ways without knowing it. I recently went through a rough patch in my life, I got infected with Covid 19, I spent two months in bed, with a lot of problems to breath. Relaxing was crucial to get air into my lungs and your videos helped me a lot; for real, A LOT. Thank you so much for what you are doing
I hope you're doing okay now 🙏
Nice to see such a unique Console being restored. And it's oddly satisfying to see it's getting back to his former Glory.
Also can we say, that the Duck-tor sounds good and funny, when he speaks? Great Job keep it up :)
1:28 Oh SHEET! look at my boy *Ducktor with is Duckpods* 😎😎😎
Isn’t this technically a voice reveal
@@mr.zapper3356 he's spoken before. I can't remember which video(s) though.
Oh ok
Mr.Zapper No it was the ducktor obviously
Oh that makes so much more sense
That was the cutest can of paint I’ve ever seen!
I just love how they managed to make an error in the french translation on the second paragraph :
"However, a diligence regularly passes between the fighters ans if you touch it, you lose points" is what should the sentence mean but
1. It's "Diligence" with a C like in English (this one is false only on the new edition, little typo mistake)
2. "enter" doesn't mean anything in french, the correct word should be "entre" which means "Between"
there you go, here's your french lesson for today
i will add that it's "régulièrement" and not "réguliérement"
That's actually cool piece of info. I don't know any French but even if I did I probably would have still added the errors to the new label
@@OddTinkering yup it's ok to keep the original errors, i remember when i was a child some of the translated text in french were completely incomprehensible. xD
Your right

I’ll never have the amount of patience it must’ve taken to repaint the faceplate with a toothpick
fr 🤣🤣🤣
And the balls of steel of not masking where paint was not supposed to go!
Haha! Yes it took a while, but literally biggest job was recreating the sticker with those logos etc. It took several hours to do
@@OddTinkering Very late to the party, but for jobs like repainting the faceplate, you might want to look into getting a small rubber paint roller like they use for printing.
Some kids were definitely have a heated battle in the 80s on this and one of them knocked a full can of RC Cola onto it.
Your videos are so helpful and informative. Yesterday, they inspired me to take apart an old Xbox 360 controller that had a faulty trigger button. I followed what I saw on your videos and not only repaired it myself and cleaned everything correctly, I also used parts off of another controller to repair the one in question. Now it looks and works like new!! You saved me some money!! Thank you so much!! I look forward to more videos in the future!!
Sometimes I wonder if Odd Tinkering and Relaxing End are the same person.
Haha they are both Finnish and anonymous so it could be
I was thinking the same thing for a long time hahaha

I love the way you keep things like stickers and decals where you can to put them back. It keeps the end results authentic. I also loved the way you checked the colour. It made me feel that you really care about the item you’re restoring.
I think he’s the only RUclipsr who I actually stay to listen to the sponsors. Also we got to hear his voice!!
I've been waiting for electronics for a looooong time! Finally another one.
There will be more. But I like doing other stuff too even though they are not usually as popular videos
Your channel is cool. I recommend they play this on tvs at the Krusty Krab
That would be cool
The Heath Inspector didn't you die
But I lived!
Lol
I was 5 years old when my uncle buy me this console in my birthday ... i was playing with my brothers and have a very beautiful time with it . Seeing this now bring nothing but sweet memories . RIP my beautiful uncle .
I know how it feels to lose someone you care about. He better be treated well up there. Wish the best for you and your family
I always look forward to seeing the toothbrush with suction cups in these videos. It's been a part of your family of tools for a long time, alongside isopropyl alcohol, the Ducktor, watery soap/liquid ice, and the UV tub of hydrogen peroxide.
I'm amazed that the toothbrush has survived this long.

Because of that, I watched the whole ad. So polite!
@Aethelwolf
Writing correctly is a sign of respect.
If someone can't afford the time to proofcheck (or at least EDIT), why should everybody afford the time to read the message?
If you REALLY think you need to write an essay to do what's basically common sense, there's a problem...
I hope you wash your hands even when you're not in a restaurant :X
You should totally make a t-shirt design that has the “liquid ice” container 😂
I discovered this channel 2 days ago and Im totally ADDICTED to it. I love doing manual work with tools (yet i dont have as many or know as much as you) and I also love science so looking at you mixing both is one of the best experiences ever thank you so much for this content
Many people can repair things. few people can do it stylishly. Well done, as always.
I was hoping for a “The battery terminals have slight corrosion on them” 😂
I feel for my parents. Long car trips with toys like this growing up annoying the hell out of them.
Easily the best restoration videos out there, so relaxing to watch and very satisfying when you see the end results.
dude, u know how trully good and honest a youtuber is when he put a timer until the end of the ads. Anyway, thx u so much for all that super work, keep doing Nice stuff like that!
Great restoration 👍. These were really well made, I live in Japan and you can still find and buy old retro game consoles (incl. this one) here in good working condition. Amazing if you consider the years of use and abuse they have had!
This like the others are the best electronic restorations I’ve seen great work
Awesome video! I’ve watched most of your content by now and am always impressed by your ability to restore the electronics. Thanks for sharing!
I think this is my favorite console restoration to date. These videos are awesome, keep up the great work man!
You do a great work to clean and repare any thing. Bravo.

Awesome restoration. Nice to hear you speak during the sponsor portion. Scrubbing the Duckter's bottom with the toothbrush was hilarious! Hearing the "funeral dirge" tune on this game reminds me of my vintage Ideal Electronic Detective game. This game seems like it would be neat to have in a collection. Great job restoring this electronic game!
Marvelous dude! Only wish you posted more frequently. Love watching you bring objects back to life. Great job ⭐️

This is such a cool video. I love the restoring but also as someone who enjoys classic gaming and some of its relics I had never seen something like this so it was a new experience as well! Thank you for that

The sound design… my ears! I usually add all your videos to an ASMR playlist I made for myself, but I think I’ll need to pass on putting this one there 😅
This was a beautiful rehab of an oldie.

I feel like this is a type of ASMR. It's very relaxing and therapeutic to watch.
Oh just realized he talks in this video for the earbug sponser, always wondered what he sounded like. He has a cool accent! But for the vid great job as always!

Him: It doesn't sound good
Me: No it doesn't it really doesn't
19:05 - I've heard that sound on various "Game over" screens before. Anyone know where it's originally from?
it's a piece of classical music by Chopin. Piano Sonata No. 2 has a well-known passage called the Funeral March, which can be heard below. it's commonly used in western culture as a "death song":
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Frederic_Chopin_Piano_Sonata_No.2_in_B_flat_minor_Op35_-_III_Marche_Funebre.ogg
I really like when you restore electronics, it's so fascinating seeing how things worked on the past 😄
This doubles as an educational restoration video and really good ASMR, a win-win for me!

You know what I really love about these videos? It's when he washes Duktor, it's just so cute, I can't
I absolutely love watching restorations. But there still is that part of me that wants to see one of these that can't be saved, even while giving it everything you know. It's just a small part of me. Although I love seeing things work again.

Always cool to see what's inside those old machines. That 4-bit D553 CPU was used in quite a few handhelds of the era e.g. Pacman, Dracula etc. It had 2K of ROM spread out over 8 banks, but only 96 nibbles (48 bytes) of RAM.
"this is a french unit" so it has a surrender button, doesn't it?
