@@IceBergTV Please use my title on a follow up video. A lady at the Dynamic Discs Carrollton store showed me this grip. It felt weird so I only gave it a few throws. One year later I see your video. I can see the speed is improved but my pull through is off. I am throwing 270-290 bullets, but they're like only six feet high. This probably gets me from 270-280' to a consistent 300'. Yesterday, my longest was 322' by hyzer flipping an Escape that turned then faded. I hadn't thrown over 310' in a long time. Thx for all the great vids.
OMG! I tried this today with the same results! 20-40 more feet than I have ever thrown before. Discs were turning over without me having to force them over. Did hyzer flips with discs that normally won't. Unreal results and easily the biggest thing to happen my game in a long time.
Just tried. Same result as you. Never thrown further, and it was really strong head wind. Strongest wind I have thrown in by far. It was weird, but worked! Thank you!
James Protor grips the disc like that. I was out in the field the other day messing with that grip ,and I was gaining some effortless addtional distance . Felt so wrong tho.
Came here to say the same thing. It's not only a stronger grip but it is easier to get the disc on anhyzer and get the nose down. So many coaches will mock this grip but if it works, it works. It's exactly how I grip the disc and even with a fan grip.
@@michaelrichards2634 proctor gets so nose down that the disc deflects like an upside down air bounce. Can see a proxy of it in Simon lizottes recent Robot videos when they are messing with angles.
Definitely more spin and nose down! You feel like your gonna grip lock it but the spin really shows on laser low ground play with disc that normally don’t skip as much. Im 350 backhand on a good day and was getting my G star Teebird 300 barely 5 feet off the ground like it was a Mako 3. Thanks man ! Keep up the good work!
I think its a combination of relying on the elbow as the primary lever amd improved nose angle. I have always theorized that the wrist is more important as an added lever to increase snap like a whip. But this grip takes a lot of wrist mobility out.... honest to Jesus this may take so much frustration out of inconsistent nose angles and having to constantly balance between pouring the coffee and turn the key. I am very excited to try this.
Ok, I gotta say that I was very skeptical, but I tried this today, and it did help me with drivers but not so much with 9 speed and lower. I do like trying anything new. Thanks for the video. I can put Destroyers back in my bag. I'm only 890 rated and struggle with distance.
I e been throwing with this grip the past few days and it absolutely launches a disc. It is crazy how much snap I can put on the disc. I have been stuck at 385-400. This made 400 feel easy once I got the release point right.
I’ve been using the same grip for months now. It improved my nose angle as well spin rate. I’ve hit as high as 68 on my tech disc with it, albeit not consistently. That grip makes my wrist feel much more loose which is probably why I saw such a big increase.
Yeah I realized this a while back, something about specifically getting the pads of your fingers onto the rim like square to the rim not at an angle or sides of the fingers. If you’ve ever thrown really hard and left your fingertips hurting or snapping fingernails, this seems to put less torque on the ends of your fingers for a smoother rip out somehow. Thumb placement I think is more important with this technique cause it can change the release angle nose down by being closer to the rim or more centered off the rim for more nose up. But yeah unlocked the same 25-50ft or so…been stuck there for a while since though.
Havnt tried it yet but with shadow throws it seems hard to get the nose down unless something changes on a full throw. I also felt it bend my ring finger some but might if been too much of my finger under the rim
So grip is super personal based on two factors: hand size and rim width. Dylan is not using this grip with fairways or midranges. Proctor has been referenced several times; on GKPro Skins match there is a clip of him talking about his hand size, and it is quite a bit smaller than Luke Humphries. The key with any grip is holding the disc until it escapes the grip and angle control. Glad this works for you Dylan; it might now work for every one. Also for those of us with finger or hand injuries, our grip really does not make sense to other throwers. We are all individual in our grip. The principles remain the same.
I came up with a similar grip once and had my farthest ever throws, a crave went about 350ft 3 times in a row. The next day I tried it and it was a nose up mess at 275. Might try it again now that I can control my nose angle better.
I would agree with other comments that it depends on hand size for sure. I have an XL glove size and and pretty meaty XLs at that, as well as quite inflexible wrists. I actually feel like I lose grip strength and contact with this grip, and I have a hard time getting my wrist bent down far enough to keep the nose down. But for someone who can't quite get that index finger firmly around the rim of a driver with the more vertical grip, I could see how this would help.
As soon as I grabbed a disc with this grip I realized why it works so well. It helps to keep the knuckles down on the throw. I was watching videos recently about keeping the nose down because I was struggling with that lately but it was either BlitzDG or Nick Krush that I watched that talked about keeping the knuckles down because that helps keep the nose down. Definitely going to test this out tomorrow.
it looks like your new grip is allowing your wrist to rotate easier, resulting in that bit of added speed. i'll def try it out bc i also currently line the disc up between the pointer and middle finger.
I think this may be what "dg spin dictor" was talking about in one of his videos. The video "fastest way to learn backhand" at minute 7:30 - 9:40. I tried it briefly but maybe i need to revisit it. He did a similar grip. How does this effect nose angle? Seems like it is harder to get nose down especially with my smaller hands.
It turns the throw into more of a discus throw kind of feel. Less of a back hand slap and more of a karate chop. The palm being sort of down is what it feels like to me. Just keep toying with it 👍
That is exaclty what i was thinking when trying to grip it. At least i know i am on the right track. Seems alot more urgonomic too! I will have to hone in that release point to get the disc to fling out.
@@nyqpi33 I think the biggest help is that it's easier to keep your elbow up like you're supposed to. When I was back hand slapping I really had to force my elbow up because turning my hand perpendicular to the ground made it hard too. It makes it easier to pout the coffee as well. I'm already convinced in this grip and I've only messed with it since yesterday. I can't wait to hone it in
@@Joah1990totally agree. I’m sure the benefit comes from that this grip makes it way easier to keep the elbow up and level throughout the throw. Easy to test though, a few videos side by side this grip vs the ”Overthrow powergrip” and compare the elbow path.
I haven't tried this yet but I will, but just thinking about it, and I would say it has to do with how the disc actually comes out of the hand, how the disc spins and rotates. Pete ulubarri does a video on nose angle that I think is very relevant, because he discusses how when most people are looking at nose angle they are looking at the front of the disc as they are holding it, with the whole pour the coffee stuff, but that's not how the disc comes out of your hand, it rotates 180°, So what was the back edge is now the front edge when the disc actually comes out of your hand m
Tried this...and for me, it seems to make me keep it more nose down because of how weird it feels. Also seems like it made me curl more into the power poket more giving me more snap.
I used a two-finger grip for years. I finally had an MPO friend help me with my grip, and INSTANTLY added 50+ feet. Using 2 finger grip, I struggled to hit 300-350 regularly. Now, using a four-finger style grip, I hit 350-375 with ease.
@@anthonyfinney6326 yeah I'd say I'm a consistent 380 and I've tried switching but my mind is weird and right before I'm going to release the disc I pull my fingers off. But I do agree I'd add some distance if I could fix it.
@@IceBergTV I only have 9 drives over 500....but for only playing since June of last year, I'm super happy with 450. Still grinding tho. I was a switch hitter in baseball, so the form with hip engagement wasn't too hard.....it's all the small things.
