- Fun challenge I came up with a while ago, only now i've decided to make a video on it. I had to implement some speedrunning techniques to get where i got here. I think a speedrunner could find a way to get better results than i did

I've seen 2-3 people doing this challenge, and honestly, you collected the least upgrades!
Who knows, maybe in a few years or so we'll find a way to do the crazy gadget trick without the bounce bracelet, cool vid!
You actually can! You don't need the bounce in order to get that clipout; you can just land directly above the door, get close enough for it to open, then spin-dash down and clip out of the room that way (just be in ball form by spin-dashing). And Final Rush is doable without bounce, too (you can do the speedrun skip, or take an easier route and carefully spindash-jump to avoid the two entire areas that are supposed to require you to bounce). That officially makes the bounce bracelet entirely optional - in fact, it's not even needed for the extra missions/emblems! I did a big write-up on it last year on reddit if you're interested. (I tried to link it, but I think my comment got rejected because of the link...and rejected again when I tried to just give the post title, sub, and date so it could be found. I'll try replying to this reply with that info, I guess?)
I always think challenges like this are super cool! Another one I love is getting all the lost Chao without Mystic Melody - which is entirely possible, though a couple stages are version-specific, so there's no one version of the game (at this time, anyway) where you can get all of them without MM. (Iron Gate is non-DC only; Lost Colony is DC only; Mad Space is DC only except it was demonstrated possible in a TAS on non-DC, so probably TAS-only there.)

Amazing Job on the challenge, It's pretty interesting to see some stages that can be completed without any upgrades, now kinda wondering about the dark/final story

I’ve been doing this challenge for many years, on this game and ocarina of time. just seeing the game cutscenes progress and you don’t have any upgrades, my roadblock was always crazy gadget.
what's worse is that for the shovel claws, you can do it without using them, it's just that one emerald will remain underground until you get the upgrade. if you get the upgrade then retry the level, it has a chance of respawning above ground.

I love this style of video with the gameplay and game audio with slow readable text. Very unique! I love it.
Personally it kinds makes me not want to watch it, too much work reading it all. 🤣
But that's coming from someone who only puts on RUclips videos in the background while I work and when I'm trying to go to sleep. Any other time I don't.
I still think you did well as far as a minimalist challenge goes for this game.

I think Crazy Gadget can be done objectless with the Skip Skip
I've tried this challenge many times throughout the years, Crazy Gadget always thwarts me. There are level skips that let you skip the entire level, and I've gotten really close to pulling them off, but I've never actually accomplished it. Just for fun though, I've gotten through Final Rush on the Hero side without upgrades, and the Dark side is pretty easy to do without upgrades.
I'm gonna keep trying! One day, I'd like to find a way to skip all upgrades, including the Tails, Eggman's, Knuckles and Rouges.

Yeah, as someone else pointed out, you definitely could use Crazy Gadget Skip Skip to beat that level upgradeless. Given how difficult it is though, that's another story entirely.
As for the Dark Side story,you definitely only need two upgrades to beat it, those being the Booster and Pick Nails, for similar reasons as shown in this video.
Edit: Oh, I just noticed the Dark Side video you did for this that addresses this, nice. Makes me wonder how many emblems one could get like this. I know I got a good majority of them when I tried this.
I remember one time I was running so fast on the upper platform leading to the hover upgrade on Mission Street that I actually managed to stay up top. My brain somehow failed to process the horrible error I made until I hit a hovering section later in the level and was like "OH RIGHT."
Yeah they hard coded the digging tools to insure that you can't finish the level without getting them.

The light shoes are the other mandatory Upgrade in crazy Gadget, along side the Flame Ring, isn't it?

You need to watch some speed runs there is a trick call CGSS (crazy gadget skip skip) that makes it so you don’t need the bounce bracelet you can restart the stage to reroll the emeralds on knuckles and it keep the ones you already have the only required upgrade is tails jet booster
But if you want to lower the number of times used there is actually a part under the stage where you had to grab the jet boosters you can go under a part of the stage and there is a ramp that eliminates having to hover there
To be honest I expected you would use bugs like THE SUPER BOUNCE in Pyramid Cave
Isn't it possible to restart the Knuckles stages over and over until a shard isn't buried? Or is it really ALWAYS that one of them is underground?
I believe for the stages with Knuckle and Rouge involving their shovel upgrades, one emerald shard is always forced to spawn underground as a way to make sure the player learns the mechanic. Though it's entirely possible to restart until you succeed afterwards

well sonics and shadows stages are EASILY doable
You got already upgrade coz without it tails can't use it's boosters

With the first knuckles stage, you could've retry and it will randomize the places.

Knuckles is possible without the claw if you die i think it keeps your emeralds and moves non collected ones
It does do that but the only thing is that it will always 100% have the last one being buried underground I once used cheats to. Get 99 lives and used 90 attempts of dying to reset the last emerald and it was always underground... And since clipping underground doesn't work either (the buried pieces just phase through you) the shovel claw right now can't be skiped without hacks or mods
2 are wrong and there is an upgrade that I don't know how to write
1:30 what is the point of that rocket, i learned how to light dash the first time, why would i need some safety net the 2nd time. and who is gonna find this, its completely out of the way?
