There are all kinds of weird test craft out there including mounts on heavy aircraft for launching rocket aircraft. To save everyone time, the cockpit on the tail is for testing ejection seat mechanisms.

One of my Aerospace Engineering professors in undergrad was Iranian born/trained. Brilliant man, though his class was considered quite the experience. Sophomore level aerodynamics course, our first true aero focused course, and the grade was entirely based on 3 tests. Having managed a 55, 50 and 45 (yes, of 100) on the exams, my final grade was an A so the class averages were something special.

Don't laugh. The F-5 is an excellent light fighter. The major issue with the F-5 is range. For a primarily defensive air force, they're excellent multirole fighters. They're also extremely simple to maintain. It's a perfect beginner plane for a new military aerospace industry.
As for the landing gear... who stole from who? Did Tupolev steal it from the A-10, or did Fairchild-Republic steal it from Tupolev?
