In the heart of ancient China, two brothers are hunting fox, this mad journey will have them face treason, bravery, hatred and love.
A fox tale is a short movie made by 4 students in 2011 at the french school Supinfocom Arles.

Just so you don’t get confused, that girl is NOT a kitsune, she is a Chinese huli-jing (huli-jing means "fox-spirit" in chinese.) The story is based on Chinese mythology; men would fall for a woman who seduces and later tricks them, because she is a shapeshifting fox spirit. However, it is possible for huli-jing to be benevolent, but their "trickster" side is more heard of and therefore mistresses or generally bad women are often called "huli-jing" in China (which is sad because I love foxes and wish for the fox spirits to be known for the good.)

Love the story , the plot , the movement , the designs , i love how the animators did it
There’s so much here;
1. Unity is defined by a common interest. The replacement of that interest for one that can only benefit the individual self creates rivalry.
2. What we come together for can make us turn on each other.
3. From the perspective of the fox, we all have multiple identities that need to be channeled in different situations.
Can we stop talking about how the fox lady is designed and actually appreciate the amount of effort there was put into to this? Sure it's not Pixar levels but what do you expect from a animation made by a college group? It's pretty good to me.

I once saw an actual kitsune in the western Tokyo neighborhood where I was living at the time. My wife and I had just returned late at night from a three hour road trip to see her family and as I was unlocking the front door of our house a beautiful red kitsune came sauntering down our street. She stopped frozen, front right paw in mid-step perfectly balanced as we made eye contact with each other for no more than two seconds, then she scampered off in the opposite direction. She was so beautiful she left me wondering what sort of vision it was I had seen that night. Kitsune are rare in Tokyo though they can be seen occasionally in the country villages along the mountains. She was like a vision of feminine beauty, I can easily see how men in legends past would have fought over such a creature.

Kitsune in japanese mythology is a nine tailed fox that could turn into a woman, who was to smart for anyone to catch her.
Kitsune is actually a bit of a blanket term for Japan's mystical foxes. While yako were known to take the guise of a fair maiden in order to trick and seduce humans, they didn't necessarily need 9 tails to do so, as shape shifting is a basic ability of all kitsune.
There's also the Inari fox spirits to take into account, since as servants of the god agriculture and financial success were typically far more benevolent than their trickster cousins.
That went on for a spell, but there is far more to kitsune than just tricky fox ladies

I think the purpose of this animated short is to show that you need to see things from a different POV for example in reality the fox was a beautiful woman, but the hunters saw it has a dumb animal

Well, they did *fail* to catch the fox, even with all the powerful abilities...
They had no powers, it was in there mind, didn't u notice it was stormy and on top of mountain, but when light comes back they were down on the ground where they started, i think it all happened in their minds. even the fox woman was there as well , while she was also on rocky mountain.
Ok but studying the the power only heard of in legends before, they'd have to be that one god damn specific kind of "immortals", might've been Taoist? The word for the way they practice their powers isn't translated into English yet. However, in the legend of the world in which these people exist, they MUST have known that animals can turn into human forms. That's like asking an adult how many fingers are on his hands.
