Hi
Much better than other woodworking videos on RUclips who seem to focus more on performance instead of the skills
Gorgeous style and colors. An heirloom of practical use for your lucky little one. This inspires a build of a similar pair of storage containers, but in square dimensions, with a door. My guy's man cave needs 2 side tables. Hey, maybe a matching coffee table, either top lid, or 2 side doors. Bye, gouged, rustic pine hand-me-downs!
Haha awesome! Thanks for watching 👍🏽
Great job John beautiful cuts and process keep making these videos 👋 from El Paso Texas.
Thanks I appreciate it!!
I like that simple paint setup! Nice work!

Thanks man!
Really nice. Inspirational in fact. 👍
Thanks for watching!!
Those router bits make tounge and groove look easy!! I might have to get me a set of them!
It’s a good set for sure! 👍🏽
Great build! Your joinery is solid & milling techniques are first rate. Beautiful finished product.
That turned out really nice!
Thanks! 👍🏽
Very nice project, John! It turned out beautifully. I love the look of the grey stain and the white paint. I'm sure your daughter will enjoy it for many years. - Joe
I appreciate it joe!
Awesome Job!!
I appreciate it!
Gorgeous build! Now let’s do one for your miter station! Exceptional work you do!
Thank you!!
Quality work once again!
Thank you 🙌🏼
"...I shouldn't have made my cuts so perfect..." HA! I wish I had that problem!!! Outstanding build and an outstanding video! Thank you!
Haha thank you!
Great instructional video. Appreciate all the detail and the nice list of tools and products and the availability of plans. I appreciate projects that can be done with basic tools.
Thanks for watching!!

Great job. Very easy to follow along. Thanks for taking the time to learn how to make plans for all your videos, too!
Lots of work haha but finally got a system down 👍🏽 thanks for watching!
Great build. I like this whole set of furniture. I also have the zipwall for spraying. Best decision I made for finishing.
For sure, saves a ton of time setting up!
Talented and very polite thank you
Thank you!!
Absolutely beautiful! Another job well done John! ❤️
Thank you!
Beautiful!!

Great job!
Thanks!!
I finished building this last week and it turned out great! Your plans were awesome and very easy to follow!
Yours turned out awesome man👊🏼
Amazing job Job. A friend of mine wants me to build her one for a new born baby's room . I love your build and thank you for the ideas. I will make it my way but with the help of your ideas 👌✔️
Awesome man!
just eye balled the hinge line and carefully cut the back with a straight bit..??nice id be scared unless i used a hinge mortise bit with a roller to follow a jig or something....great job!!
Looks amazing! You can put the sound dampening bumpers so when the door closes it won't make noise
Already did! Haha 👍🏽
Hello
Awesome video
I appreciate it!!
Love the Jet planner! Awesome toy chest. I'll have to build something like that. See how this goes since I've moved to Germany lol. Awesome work and live your videos
Thanks for always watching! 👊🏼
It looks amazing
I love your videos, you’re very creative and an amazing builder!
Thank you!!
Another great video John, I enjoyed watching that, by the way, I thought my workshop was neat and tidy but yours is incredibly tidy, I love it 👍🏼
Everything is just hidden in cabinets! Haha. Thanks for watching 👍🏽
Your videos are awesome and you make everything look so damn easy haha
Haha I appreciate it man!
God job 😀👍
Thank you! 🙌🏼
Nice bro!
Thanks man!
just noticed no one was holding the lid up when you were attaching it to the box. Will that lid stay in place without falling backwards, or was there a prop behind I did not see??
No it doesn’t fall back
Almost done doing this after i purchased the plans. Holy hell my table saw sucks lol. I dont have a router table so I wased a dado stack in my portable porter cable table saw and it was not fun but definitely a good learning expiernec.
Haha dang man! Atleast you found a way though 👊🏼
Hi sir I just finished building this awesome box. Only thing I had problems with was I bought the 40inch lb hinges and it holds good but once it gets below 45degree it just drops just wondering if you had the same problem.
Our toy box lid stays open all the time so far so I had to go check haha but no not at all! What type of wood use did you use for the top? Maybe it’s heavier than mine. I know they’re not cheap but maybe you could add a third hinge in the center, or reach out to Rockler and see what they say about it
@@JohnBuildsIt I used poplar as well which makes me wonder if they we’re packaged wrong
Did the router table come with a lift if. It what lift works well with this table ? Thks
It’s built into the Bosch router base. Router is linked in the description if you want to check it out 👍🏽
Another beautiful and timeless piece of furniture bro! Why does your family call it a “hope chest?” 🤜🏼
Good question, I have no clue! Haha
It’s because as a kid, you hope there isn’t a monster hiding in the chest.
@@JohnBuildsIt Hope chest is also called a dowry box, for trousseaux. It is a piece of furniture traditionally used to collect items such as clothing and household linen, by unmarried young women in anticipation of married life.
Tell me more about how you mask off for spraying.
What’s questions do you have? I just used the zip wall poles here
u are beast pal
Haha thanks!
Just wondering why you don't paint the inside of the chest? I see this often.
Because it’s a toy box and toys get thrown in and out. White would look nasty and beat up within days
Thanks. Any reason you chose to use 1/2 maple plywood instead of MDF? I'm thinking of using MDF for some cost savings. Any issues?
I just personally wanted the look of the plywood on the inside👍🏽thanks for watching!
What brand or
type of lift do you have in your router table John?
No lift, it’s just on the Bosch router
@@JohnBuildsIt I have the same router table in which I just put the plate into my extension wing.. Using the Dewalt Router I have to adjust from under the table.. I saw you raising from the top with an allen.. Which Bosch Router are you using? Im really not looking at spending 300+ for a lift lol.. Thanks for the reply. Love the channel and the builds..
@@riversiderebuilds4677 it’s the 2.25 hp one! Link is up in the description 👍🏽
@@JohnBuildsIt Just now saw it before reading your reply.. Thank you
Don't care what anyone says, a router table is my next tool. Ain't tryna be one of those guys crying about your better tools, but I really don't have an interest in trying all those tongue an groove joints w a hand router... or do I? Wait. Seriously. Do I? Just getting started an if it's possible, I'll give it a go. Someone lemme know what they think please. Edit: thanks for the work man, this is actually exactly what I'm looking to build for my kiddo
Have a table saw? Just as good to do them on that!
@@JohnBuildsIt I did some small ones as a test. Was scared of the cut at first, the groove part, but it's not too bad. Now I have a reason to get a proper crosscut with a flat grind. Cheaper than a table router for sure. Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how it goes in a week or so
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for watching!
Bought the plans. Plan does not match video. Plan shows dowels.
You bought the wrong plans, I have 2 different videos and plans for toy boxes. Email me
First!
Haha thanks for watching!
Sent you a message on Instagram about the American Flags but didn’t get a reply 😞
What was your question? I don’t see a message
Box turned out very nice...but why not paint the inside? Because the outside is white the inside looks unfinished to me.
Also, many of the links you posted are either "out of stock" or "no longer available" Do you check them before posting them? I hate when PPL post links to something that I can not purchase. You and all the other YT'ers should check them before posting the links
Toys will be thrown in and out, and the inside would look all beat up before long if it was white. I just clicked on every link and all but 2 were in stock.
I didn’t click on them all but probably half of them and they were all in stock. 🤷🏼♂️
Awesome job!!
Thank you!!
