Just posted the finishing video (part 2), check it out here: ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
How much did it cost to make ?
This looks great, and seems very straightforward. Quick, easy weekend project. I would like to see part 2.
Just posted part 2 today! ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
Love your videos!
This build reminds me a lot of the toy chest my grandfather built for me when I was 0-1 that I currently use as my woodworking chest. Kinda funny how it went full circle haha
Amazing work! would love to see part 2 like many others :)
Thank you so much! Here's part 2 ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
Love this...and that hinge hack! Awesome!! Would love to see it finished in part 2.
Here's the link to part 2: ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
I would love to see the finishing process. Great built!!
Excellent, duly noted!
@@DIYMontreal I'm with Kathleen....Would love to see the finishing process
Just posted part 2 today! ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
I will use this build for my Grandkid/s. Loved the production - Kept my attention and got to the point. I loved every part of this up to the chain/hinge system, maybe a slow close hinge will work. Not worried about the chain as much as I am the top slamming down.
I really appreciate project videos that are doable with affordable materials and basic woodworking tools. Also appreciate practical projects that are usable in many different applications. Thanks.
Excellent, you do make it all look so easy 😀. Definitely interested in seeing part 2. Thank You! 😊
Thank you! The finishing video is now live: ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
I’m a 95% hand tool shop, but wanted to make sure to tell you that I enjoyed this build as I have others. In the DIY content space, I think you’ve got a great balance between construction in the shop and the stereotypical DIY’s. Too many of them in the space suppose they’re building when most often they’re modifying. You’re clear and concise narration is well paced, includes a lot of value added tips, and all steps logically follow. You make building something from start to finish really accessible and I’m sure it’s inspiring to many DIY’ers to stretch. Thanks and I look forward to watching more 👍
I’ve seen your face on a couple of vid adds, this is the first one I’ve watched. Impressive, the simple chest is beautiful to those of us who love wood (and I have always). I miss making things out of construction lumber, so occasionally I go back to it. Your instruction is right on point…well done.
This has to be one of the most informative videos regarding the use of pocket holes in relation to orientation...I enjoyed and was greatly informed. Thank you.
Love the video. I have been using the double-sided tape trick with hinges on all of my hinge bassed projects for a while, even on small boxes. For the most part, it works well on all of it to keep it all aligned. Great tip! :)
Good idea to use tongue and groove! Makes it look neat and much easier than having to glue up big panels. Maybe round over the edges of the lid with a router or some aggressive sanding?
Absolutely, will need to break those sharp edges.
Great build. I love the way you add the video inserts of you talking over the beginning and end.
I think that this project is both fantastic AND useful in more ways than one.
It’s a great way of re-using found materials, ie. pallet wood, it’s useful for what it is: storage, and it could double as a coffee or end table.
The assembly process involved atypical methods that are certainly both adequate and simple.
Your solution for locating the screw holes for the lid is genius! Trying to balance the lid and mark the screw locations would be a juggling act by oneself and the choice of hinge type demonstrates how “less” can be “more”!
Overall, I see an absolute work of art! I imagine various finishes could be beautiful and hand painted or stenciled decorations would turn a simple box into a beautiful work of art!
I’m gushing because I’m so impressed by the simplicity and the results.
Absolutely beautiful!
Terrific quick project. Consider using cedar for the bottom, for all the wonderful reasons cedar has been used in chests for centuries. Or, if the budget allows, do this entire project in cedar, including routed tongue and groove work. Cedar inserts would also work, although it would add a lot of weight.
Nice job. I built a similar one for a friend and they loved it. I'm now building a smaller version for a newborn toy box and I like the shiplap look and I still have leftover from last time.
Le truc du ruban double face... ça rend les choses tellement facile !!! Belle idée !
Both fun and educational. Thank you. Love the surprise when the double stick tape worked for the hinge! Yes, I am interested in learning how you finish (stain) the storage box.
Finishing is finally done! Used water-based stain and shellac for the win. You can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
Would love to see a part 2 as well, nicely done. I always chuckle a bit when you say AND voila, I always expect to hear et voila lol.
GREAT job Marie. Good thinking for the top hinge too, worked like a charm! !! !!!
Better than I expected actually 😅
Yes I would Appreciate videos on the whole project from Start to Finish . Looking Forward to a Follow- Up on your Project! Thanks for Sharing! I am going to attempt to make this for my daughter !
Part 2 would be great! I love the look of this, and might do it with tongue and groove cedar for a warmer look.
Definitely! Didn't have any cedar where I got my materials but that would have been nice 👍
Simple and elegant. Thanks for sharing this beautiful job!
Quick easy and inexpensive build. This would be one of the rare instances where I would consider painting a project, I’ve never been crazy about the look of finished pine but interested to see how this turns out
Moment of truth has arrived, here's part 2: ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
Maybe I just should have painted it lol
Love it! Yes would enjoy seeing you finish the chest!
Thank you for posting this. I like your idea for the hinge installation.
Love this, great job with the hinges. Looking forward to doing this as one of my new year projects.
Have fun!
thats a great tip on the pocket hole orientation. i've had that issue many times.
I built a similar, albeit less quality, box, and some of your tips would've saved me some headaches! Loved your easy to follow steps and explenation!
Smart approach with the hinges
Definitely need to have a finishing video. Thanks for the great build!
I’ve got the older Kreg but I am liking the ease of that new one. Merry Christmas to you!
I liked the old jig and was actually reluctant to change, but using the new one is so easy! No going back for me now.
Merry Christmas!
Yes please do a part 2. I'd also be interested in a way to prevent the lid from slamming shut if used as a kids toy box. Merry Christmas!
You can install a lid stay I think they are called instead of the chain.
Yes please for Part 2! Maybe a nice wood dye demo? Thanks for your videos, they are much appreciated.
Great idea, thanks
Part 2 please! Excellent video. High production quality and narration. Thanks for sharing what you do in such an awesome way!
Thank you! Part 2 just released: ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html

Love the double sided tape idea. Always something new to learn. That is the beauty of life
Wonderful diy video. When I get that jig it will be the first thing I build.

Nice idea, knocking the hinge pins out
😍 Would love to see a part 2. So happy I found your channel! I do live like 3 hours from Montreal and I like to be able to buy the same stuff that are available in Canada!
Merci beaucoup!! 😍😍😍
Ha! And I'd like to buy the stuff that's available just across the border in the US. Go figure!
That jig is AWESOME!
Nice build! I like keeping everything mobile in my garage so I can easily move things around, so as a finishing touch I put usually screw some low profile wheels to the bottom.
Really appreciate the tips about the pocket screws!
Excellent project and delightfully presented as always. I really enjoy your videos and find them inspiring and informative. I would love a part 2 as suggested. Thanks Tim
Happy to share part 2 with you: ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
Great idea for attaching the hinges! I wish I'd thought of that when I last built a box as it was a total pain to get them done 😂
Ha! I feel ya. Was glad I thought of doing this!
Nice build. Please do part two.
Love the design, both the looks and the simplicity of it!
Thanks, appreciate it!
Now that is a fun useful project (and cheap). Please do part 2
Just released part 2: ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
Wonderful build
Looks awesome!
Amazing...need to see you finishing that tricky pine...greetings from Laval
Fabulous! Thanks for a great tutorial!
Lovely project. Thanks for sharing!
Your wood chest design is really nice. Thanks for sharing! Another bell and whistle that I think would be cool to add to this chest would be to install 1" or 2" swivel caster wheels to the bottom.
That would be cool!
Absolutely I would love to see part two. Nice job
You got it: ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
Beautiful work. Thank you for sharing.
I would definitely like to see the finishing video! Great project.

I love this, I'll be making a couple of these soon. Thanks!!!
Beautiful job. Wishing I had a table saw but wondering if I could rig a circular saw to the same work. Really nice work and really good video as well.
Great result - such nice clean timber too !
Yes, I'd be interested in the finishing. I've never had much luck with stains myself. Not used them for years because of that.
Seasons Greetings too; looking forward to your videos in the New Year.
Staining and finishing is harder than most videos make it look IMO. Nevertheless, I'm sharing my whole finishing process, the good and the bad! Here's the video ruclips.net/video/j-3BT54r77A/видео.html
That Chest is amazing
Absolutely interested. Great work.
I loved this. You make me want to put a wood shop in my garage!
You did a beautiful job. And your shop is set up so nice. I wish you can come down to Florida and set mine up. Anyhow I like your video and it gives me some ideas. Thank you very much and I’ll look forward to another video. Merry Christmas
