      Would buy if there was an EVF. And maybe a mechanical shutter. Or more small lenses…

  • @Joinen
    @Joinen 4 месяца назад +6

    I think the lack of EVF and mechanical shutter are the obvious drawbacks, though I do think that the x100VI social media crowd might not be too bothered. The film sim feature is a massive part of what makes Fujifilm cameras so popular right now and I think Lumix's LUT feature is objectively better. I wouldn't be surprised if this thing takes off on social media.
    Personally, I possibly could have been convinced on it despite the EVF/mech shutter situation, but the fact that it has such strict recording limits EVEN at FHD is the nail in the coffin.
    Not a serious tool for photography, not a serious tool for video 🤷🏻‍♂

    Hi Anson, we crossed path in facebook too recently. Thanks for the balanced review. You pointed everything out in details, the pros and the cons. And you clearly stated that this is only a first look at the product, not a full review. And for that, bravo! I’ve been an FP user since the first day of release and I’ve just placed a pre order for the S9. So your answer to “who is this for”is spot on. The S9 is that FP with Ibis and autofocus and 10bit log that some of us have been waiting for *foregoing the raw cdng. Hope to see more of this LUT workflow in details in your future videos. Maybe show your audience how to create the LUT in the app, and maybe how to create one in Resolve and then transport it over to the camera?
    Thanks

    I am a Sigma FPL photographer. I got a gimbal for Christmas and the video recording capabilities are amazing but the gimbal set up is kinda bulky. (My hands are not steady enough for pure hand held video). So the IBS is the feature I find most tempting. Plus I already have a bunch of L-mount lenses to use with it. In a perfect world they would be releasing the slightly more expensive 60mp version.

    I'm really glad you made the comparison to the sigma fp. How would you compare the two? I think the ibis on the S9 looks amazing in comparison to the FP. ANd the color lut creation thing is also a little cooler than I initially thought after doing more research. Hopefully the s5ii will get that. I can nab a sigma fp for around a grand, body only. And in many ways I still miss that little cool pocket powerhouse. But the obvious things that forced my hand to sell it were the lack of ibis and mechanical shutter really. I honestly didnt even care that much about the fact that the autofocus was practically non-existent. So on those notes, lol, whats your take? Does this have more or less what the FP was missing, but also hindered by similar limitations?

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 месяца назад +1

      I feel like it fills the gaps that the sigma fp has. I really do feel like if you had issues with the fp cause of the lack of certain features, but like the size, this is the camera to check out, as long as you are ok with the record limits. I do think the fp image is more organic, while the s9 is more digital.

    It is for the casual shooter that wants more than a phone but not a full on camera like a Nikon Z8 or something loke that. Someone like my brother. This camera is perfect for real estate video. Having your Real estate luts already in the camera would speed up the work flow tremendously. Pare this baby with the sigma 16-28mm 2.8 and 28-70mm your real estate coverage will be set.

    • @superarchangel
      @superarchangel 4 месяца назад

      Would you get the lumix 16-35 instead of the Sigma lenses you mentioned as a one only lens for real estate since anything over 50mm for real estate seem little use case unless you like to take detailed shots from afar. The lumix can also be good for street photography when traveling when not doing real estate? But the aperture is slower than the sigma, but then in real estate usually shoot F8 or above most of the time.

    • @aNumberOne
      @aNumberOne 4 месяца назад

    So I guess this is supposed to be a 'streamlined' Sigma fp for beginner videographers or those who don't want to shoot RAW? With the in camera presets and no editing approach. But as someone who doesn't do any video. I would probably pick up the fp for the extra $300 knowing that I would have a lot more room to grow plus the option of having an EVF if I really wanted it. It feels like a hard sell when the fp exists in the same mount. If this were on any other mount, it would make a lot more sense as a competitor to the fp.
    But I could be convinced that you buy an S9 as a beginner, then when you get deeper into your video shooting you can upgrade to a way more capable body and you get to take your lenses with you. But to me that only makes sense if S9 costs like ~$1200, not $1500
