  • When the NBA Playoffs are here, we are always looking to see which teams (star players cough cough) are going to take their team over the edge and push them throughout the playoffs. However, for some basketball fans, we know the stars are going to ball out, but in close playoff series, it's the role players that actually win you the series, not the stars...
So it got me thinking... Who are actually the greatest role players in NBA history? The ones that know what they need to do at all times, and do it at the highest level. Well, this is that video, but there are a couple of twists in this video that you may not be expecting...

This might come off blasphemous at first but I think it's Dennis Rodman. Think about it the guy averaged 7 points a game, averaged 3-6 shots a game and less then 2 assist per game. He was a massive liability on offense to score. With that said the point of a "role player" is to be told to do something and that is what they do. Rodman was told to play defense and rebound and did both amazing.

what role would you put him under?

  • @spirenguard

Removing players because they had an all-star appearance is tough. You pretty much remove every mid and late 2000s piston or hawk just because the East was a weak conference.

It was very tough, however in the future I may make a video with more lax rules

In my opinion you skim over the truth about Vernon Maxwell”s contribution to Houston Rockets second NBA championship. After being a starter in the Rockets 1994 NBA Championship Maxwell”s role and minutes were reduced the following 1995 championship season and not because of Sam Casell or Kenny Smith or Robert Horry. Maxwell was not a part of the Rockets' 1995 championship roster, quitting the team after a loss to Utah in the 1995 playoffs. Clyde Drexler, who Houston had acquired in February 1995, had taken away most of Maxwell's minutes and his starting spot.

Brent Berry was not a pure shooter he won a slam dunk contest and was a good facilitator and had some really really good years. Averaging good numbers on good teams in his later years. He played key minutes on them Spurs teams

Livingston's injury reminds me of an interesting story from a RUclips comment section. There was a clip of a guy trying to break into a convenience store by kicking the locked door from TruTV Presents World's Dumbest. At one point, his knee bent in a way that reminded me of Livingston's injury so I commented that it did with a warning to not Google it. Some guy did and replied "I should have listened. Knees aren't supposed to bend that way"
