Well, it's almost like they're bartering for the family home in the most unconventional way possible - _"I'll take care of Mom if you throw in the house."_ Who knew caregiving could become a real estate deal?
Caregiving for an elderly family member is an extremely taxing, unpaid job. One you have to make a lot of sacrifices for. And often things as the savings, income (social security, spousal benefits, etc.), and insurance the elder has doesn't cover the cost of their care needs. So the caregiver is also having to dedicate their own money to their care or taking care of the house (bills, food, repairs, etc.). Bartering for the house among siblings is pretty common as a means of compensation for the one who took on that job.
This sounds like it was Courtney's idea to begin with. Spouses need to keep their noses out of in-laws' business. Inheritance is for the children of the deceased not the children's spouses unless it was directly stated in the will.
You'd be surprised how greedy some families get with each other when it comes to caring for loved ones and inheritances. As a former nurse aide, I've seen families actually bicker about things in their loved ones' room when the parent was literally actively passing.
Funny how money is the first thing some people think of when a member of the family dies. And how disappointed THEY end up bein' when that loved one's will is read.
Deaths in the family bring out the ABSOLUTE WORST in people. It didn’t happen in my family when I lost my parents after taking care of them for the last 10 years in their lives. I guess I got lucky.
Not in all families, thank god. My brother and I had no problems when it came to my father’s inheritance. And he even offered to give me a bigger share of my mother’s inheritance since I had taken care of her during her last years.

If the original document states that the house goes to the son UNDER THE CONDITION that he cares for the mother, than all the daughter has to do is to prove that it was her who cared for the mother. That shouldn’t be difficult with doctors and neighbours as witnesses.
Makes me so glad that when my parents passed, they didn't have a pot to P in, or a window to throw it out of. I signed off on any rights to any property. I thought it only fair that my siblings got everything, little as it was, because they were caregivers.
Mark & Courtney got what they deserved, ironic that the two failing to be caretakers for Mark's mom are now forced to care for themselves cause they got jack all thanks to their actions. They're lucky they didn't get reported for elderly abuse cause it sounds a little like it was somewhere around that or neglect.
Good morning, everyone. A lot of people are using cremation instead of burial, but have a service later. Actually that memory training is a good idea. Its something all of of us should do
So, this is a story of Courtney biting off more than she can chew. I guess Mark left all the caring of HIS mother to Courtney. This is why you shouldn't be greedy for things that don't belong to you. Jennifer, there is nothing wrong with cremating a dead loved one. Love is not shown by whether the mom is cremated or not. Funerals are expensive and not everyone have the funds to hold a funeral costing tens of thousands of dollars. Not everyone wants to hold a funeral costing tens of thousands of dollars. Cremation isn't being disrespectful. They sell houses fast in these stories. LOL I figured Jennifer sold the house. I don't blame her. She should have sold it as soon as she became her mother's caretaker. SHE DID!!!! YAY!!!! I'm going to rain on Mark's parade. BANKS DO NOT GIVE YOU ACCESS TO YOUR DECEASED LOVED ONES' ACCOUNT IF YOUR NAME IS NOT ON THE ACCOUNT. You will have to get a lawyer to get access to the account. Also, they said their mom has dementia. There's a good chance she doesn't have money in those banks. How much money did Mark think his mom had? Illnesses are expensive for elderly parents. This is where greed gets you.
Where I live at least, even cremating means that you have to buy a coffin and a resting place at the cemetery. The fee for the funeral ceremony itself is only a tiny amount compared to the rest.
In my country a coffin (even if the deceased is being cremated) and a resting place at a cemetery are mandatory and cost quite some money. The fee for the funeral itself is only a very small amount compared to that.
It is beyond me how these people think that their parents have some big inheritance. I mean they live from pension to pension. They have to pay the bills, health insurance, car if they have one, groceries, medicine, they need to pay the medical care. How can they have any money left then? What do they think that their parents lived from? Then there is the expences of the funeral. What savings, what inheritance? It's not like everybody is rich and has a lot of money to live off and then just give it to their kids. Wh my mother died I inherited a burrial plot and her debt. Wch I payed off. You cant just expect to get a lot of money and asets from your old, sick parents. And how can you not have the funeral? That is unheard of
Ok so they obliterated their entire content. Great. Is that way the "i have my dil/sil 10,000 dollars as a wedding gift" story is gone. Shame. I liked that one, everyone told her to drop it but she refused thinking that because OP owned her own business that she'd give at least 30,000 as a gift.
Im disgusted by everyone in this story taking are of your elders is not this bad i watch my grandfather slowly lose everything he cared about. Due to dementia. And you people in this story are acting like its fine as long as we get the inheritance.
