+S Miller "Study" them long enough and you'll understand why they are so praised and why they are considered the benchmark. Also, Porsche's correctness when publishing performance figures shows respect for their costumers as they do not publish the car's best performance in the best conditions, but the performance any average Joe can extract.
S Miller That's the thing, when you factor in all their qualities compared to other cars, the price tends to be fair (but only by comparison, not in isolation). I know 100k+ for a car is a lot (it really is), but this is how economy vs value works. About buying used, yeah, I would probably never buy a new car, even if I had tons of money. It doesn't make sense to me financially when I can avoid it. Most of the economists I know never bought brand new cars, they buy them slightly used too.
997s are going to be extremely valuable in the future. If you can find a good deal on a decent 997, hang on to it and take care of it. You will not be sorry down the road. The 997 is the last real Porche.
@@jwardTLS sorry pal lol but thanx. it was just common sense at the time really. But i personally was in love with the 997 at first sight. its my favorite car. So there was emotion in that comment. for got i wrote this.
You need to have weekly episodes with Bill, maybe even you two driving other peoples cars and bullshittin about them. He is the best on any one takes so far!
Oh man now I really love this Porsche and the 987 one he drove with Bill the other day as well. Great bang for your buck! Definitely want to take one for a test drive this summer. Keep doing the awesome one takes Matt!
Good choice of cars Bill. I bought my Cayman S after driving a 911 (Not the 4S). For my commuting and canyon driving, a Cayman S just makes more sense. I don't track my cars. BOTH are great sport cars.
+CaideN Cayman S is an amazing car! I would encourage you to think about doing a few track days a year. Not only will you become a better driver , but you will begin to appreciate your Cayman even more for it's great handling that you just don't get to experience on the streets!
A very fine specimen with an awesome soundtrack. The Cayman is a more playful car, but any 911 is the iconic Porsche which gets better with every generation. And then Porsche fans have their own preferences (budget considerations apart). A great brand !
I agree with the 991 observation. Too big. I was about to pull the trigger on a 991 but the car did not feel right and I ended up buying an older 2005 997.1(manual) with 60K miles instead ( $30K). Absolutely love the car. As for these more recent model 911's. When it was all said and done I could not move forward on the 991's simply because I am not a fan a large bulky sports cars. If I wanted large and bulky I would buy American. My initial budget was 100K for a 2-3 year old 911 but ended up spending 30K on a 2005. I think I'll put a couple of grand worth of work into the engine and maybe get a duck tail.
Smart Move! Ducktail is a winner choice too! Get to know the smaller, older, more raw versions of the 911 and you will see how fun they can be even without all the latest gadgets and safety features. Yes, the newest are faster, but not necessarily more enjoyable and a better over all driving experience. Just bigger, safer, faster... What's the fun in being bigger and safer ?! ;^)
Fab vid, Bill’s a dude! Along with Matt’s other vid on the silver 997S, helped convince me to go and buy one. Got a beautiful 997 Carrera 4S and agree with Matt & Bill - it’s a great car!
Congratulations!! Awesome choice. I enjoy mine so much and it ticks all the boxes when it comes to exciting driving. Enjoy and drive it like you stole it...in a safe way of course ;^)
+iliovecaRS No. Those are aftermarket that you can find on Ebay that try to mimick the 997.2 while fiting in the 997.1 stock bumpers. If you see closely, they are LED's and have the color pattern of the 997.2, but the perimeter shape is the same as 997.1
+Mark Murarescu 996 is probably gonna be the dream project car I need in my life. You can find them for under 20k all over the place. As long as your willing to rebuild the motor and fix the IMS, its a champ! I wanna buy a cheap old on, drive it till it blows, and swap that 3.8 in there!! But thats a lot of money... Be worth it when I walk away from a newer 911!
Cayman engine swaps are quite popular I found out yesterday; there were 981 Caymans with the 991 X51-Powerkit engines even before the GT4. As far as I know, no one has done an A91 GT3 engine swap yet. A Boxster Spyder with a GT3 engine = HOLY HELL
+N0SK1LLS Hi, it's Bill. Glad I could help rid you of your prejudices! Now if some one could help me get rid of my prejudices against Porsche drivers that would be awesome! hahaha! Just kidding, sort of ;^) You know every car club or group has the quiet guys, nice guys, and those too cool for school. That's just life, but more often then not car guys are car guys and love to talk about their cars no matter what make or price they are. Some times you just gotta break the ice ;^)
I've been waiting for the video today, and it didn't disappoint! What a lovely noise - but I'm biased - I drive a Carrera S of the same year. The only time I've witnessed the 'weight on the rear' feeling was on a proving ground with a good speed and some intense steering inputs; On the street I only get a slightly floaty front end on corner entry. I've also been itchy for an LSD, though I'm not sure of all the effects of that. I would not hesitate to add a cayman to my garage.
hey matt, your high beams are on .my r33 gtr is totally jealous of your great canyon roads compare to all the boring flat and straight roads of Saskatchewan, Canada . keep the good vids flowing
I was looking at 997 Porsche S's a few weeks ago, couldn't find a decent gen 2 within a fair price range in my opinion. I say that because I personally don't think they should be worth as much as people are still asking for them however.. seeing this video has shown that a late late gen1 may actually be the way forward with a few tweaks. Great vid again, thanks :)
+eddiefara not quite, it is still less powerful than the carrera s engine. Don't get me wrong, the GT4 is awesome, I would but it over a Carrera S or GTS... but that is just me.
I'm getting back to this video as a 997 911 & 987 boxster owner and everything they talk about as far as the differences between the rear engine and mid engine makes total sense. I actually prefer the heavier steering and neutral feeling of the boxster. I think i'll need an intake now for my 911 though ;)
K&N Intake Kit # 57-7000 with IPD intake Plenum and GT3 throttle body... Most of the sound comes from the K&N kit . Makes it sound like a real screamer 5000-7000 rpm! ;^) I also have switched back and forth to another intake hose and valve cap used with stock air box. ebay search "Porsche 996 & 997 Carrera C2 C4 Non-Turbo Upgrade Air Intake Box Hose Kit BLACK". Not as loud as K&N kit, but sounds better than stock and almost as good from 5000-7000 rpm as the K&N.
Hi, it's Bill. Still have my same garage line up that I discuss in my videos with Matt Farah. I Have had the 997 for 10 years now. Although I can see a 991.2 or 992 in my future I am still enamored with the 997. It still checks all the boxes for me when it comes to going for an exciting drive. The newer cars are no doubt much faster, quieter and more comfortable, but I still enjoy the simplicity and raw feel of the naturally aspirated 997 and older Porsches. I hate to say it, but in some older Porsches the levels of excitement are still within reach with normal everyday driving at 40-80 mph. They are also louder, lighter and more mechanical feeling versus the newer cars which are so good, quiet, and turbo charged fast that they require a lot more speed to really enjoy. The newer cars also have a lot of gadgets that I just don't need to have fun driving. I am a bit simple and old school when it comes to driving. I like a 6 speed manual and naturally aspirated flat 6 engine. That pretty much keeps me happy ;^)
+Sandeep M Hi, it's Bill.... ---K&N Intake Kit # 57-7000... My only concern would be to measure the diameter of your stock MAF housing. This kit uses a 3 inch intake tube that the Maf plugs in to. If your stock maf diameter is bigger than that then your air flow readings will be a bit off and cause a lean fuel ratio situation. I had the 82mm GT3 throttle body on for awhile, same as yours, and the hose connector can work with that with a little elbow grease ;^) The part is not very expensive either, but man it sounds awesome from 5000-7000 rpm. But, like I said, the main concern is the maf housing. Measure your maf housing diameter and if it is 3 inches diameter then this could work for you! ;^) ---K&N Intake Kit # 57-7000
qikqbn77 Hi Bill. Posting to an old video but I want this sound in an ‘06 C2S!! The K&N website lists that kit part number for the 3.6L only. Did you just fit it to the 3.8L anyway? Just to confirm, as driven in this video did you have anything other than the K&N system and GT3 throttle body? Thanks so much, you did a great job with this car.
Hey, it's Bill...glad I could push you over the Porsche edge and congrats on your C4 purchase decision!! Enjoy in good health and drive it like you stole it. It will last longer that way ;^)
Cost aside, how does this compare to the 2010 PDK 997 Gen 2 you drove a few months ago? Got my eye on a PDK C4S 997.2 - love the lines of this gen. For some reason the 991 never looked as good as those 09-12 911s.
+TheSmokingTire What kind of camera and microphone setup do you use? I have a 997 also and would like to capture the engine audio as well as your videos do!
My god, that sound...Porsche you will get my money some day. I swear it
+maximus9401 Porsche will never get my money. A Porsche owner from craigslist on the other hand...
Michael Cohen haha! well we do what we can!
Idk man
@Mr.BigBoss7 yes
@Mr.BigBoss7 not yet sir! Still hoping to some day!
Dude bill could easily be your co-host, fucking love Bill.
Thats what makes it funny to me, Matt has to start talking so he doesn't get his show stolen :)
Ya I hope he does it
bill seems like a dick, he talks too much and his voice annoys me
+Mitchell Mortenson Good thing nobody cares about your opinion.
Alex 😂😂 you're forgetting the golden rule of social media...EVERYONE's opinion matters! 🙄😂

Any 911 with a duck tail spoiler is okay with me. Just looks gorgeous to me.
you mean it makes it less uglier in the rear
without the spoiler it looks awful
Bill knows his cars. This is one of my favorite videos ever.
I must admit that i come back watching this video now and then. What an awesome car and a dedicated owner!

Thanks for showing love for US Europeans. Your upload timing is perfect!
Bill is awesome. Hope his wife lets him get the 993
I've owned a 997S Launch Edition for over 7 years now - they're fantastic, this is the best 911 series I think.
That thing absolutely screams(!) Man I'm gonna miss these NA Porsches. Thanks Matt - great back to back videos.
either Bill is Porsche salesman or he is really into Porsche. either way, I'm sold.
Bill: That sounds good huh?
Matt: MAGNIFICENT!
I've probably watched this over 15 times.
Me too! haha ;^)
We like Bill
That intake sound! A naturally aspirated orchestra.
i feel like fistpumping when you hit redline everytime, sounds wicked!!

Finally a Porsche outside of the flagships that I like the sound of.
bill is good. be like bill.
Bills the man. That car sounds absolutely fantastic, and thats through youtube!
this guy is great. He is smiling so hard the whole time! Who wouldn't I guess. Nice video.
Damn the sound of that engine is awesome!
wow that 3.8 sounds amazing
Matt: When you upshift just to downshift. That's my move. Made me laugh so hard :D
Yes Seinfeld. So awesome.
+John Wick the line "that's my move!" is from a Seinfeld episode. Jerry says if when Putty steals one of his sex moves and uses it on Elaine.

This is my absolute favorite model of Porsche made at the moment.
I wonder if Matt ever runs into Jay Leno out in the canyons .
Yes I do
+TheSmokingTire You should make a video together, that'll be great!
Christian Mitkov Matt could do a one take of Jays gt350 and Jay could do a video of Matts fox body.
+TheSmokingTire I've always wondered if Jay just really likes cars, or if he actually really knows how to drive them
+Colby Perry He's not a racing driver, but he can start and drive everything in his garage, which is quite an accomplishment.

Very nice. What exactly did Bill do to the exhaust / intake plenum?
Softronic ECU Tune, Evoms V-Flow intake kit, OEM Sport Exhaust with valves, IPD intake Plenum, Sprint booster throttle map adjuster, OEM short shift kit, OEM sport classic body modifications. Eibach GT3 25mm rear sway bar, Eibach Sport springs.
I've been waiting for the video today, and it didn't disappoint! What a lovely noise - but I'm biased - I drive a Carrera S of the same year. I've also been itchy for an LSD, though I'm not sure of all the effects of that. I would not hesitate to add a cayman to my garage.
Bill is cool, great taste in cars
I just bought an 08 4s. Can’t wait for it to get here.

Ruff does what Porsche doesn't want to do: a Cayman with the 911 engine at full power ... and they can upgrade the brakes too!
+Photoandcargeek You mean Ruf?
+Benedocta yes
+Photoandcargeek the cayman gt4 does that doesn't it?

Details on the intake.... it sounds amazing 👌🏾
K&N Intake Kit # 57-7000 with IPD intake Plenum and GT3 throttle body... Most of the sound comes from the K&N kit . Makes it sound like a real screamer 5000-7000 rpm! ;^)
I also have switched back and forth to another intake hose and valve cap used with stock air box. ebay search "Porsche 996 & 997 Carrera C2 C4 Non-Turbo Upgrade Air Intake Box Hose Kit BLACK". Not as loud as K&N kit, but sounds better than stock and almost as good from 5000-7000 rpm as the K&N.
It's crazy how much these have gone UP in value since this video. I'm looking at a C4S right now with 35k miles for $58k...and that's the going rate
You and Bill have a good chemistry. Maybe some more projects together?
When I say "pretty nice" I mean it was a thing I'll never forget. It was nice!
Just came across this vid....great commentary..i wonder if you pal Bill still has this 997 ?.....if not I'd be interested to know what he has ?

The newer cars also have a lot of gadgets that I just don't need to have fun driving. I am a bit simple and old school when it comes to driving. I like a 6 speed manual and naturally aspirated flat 6 engine. That pretty much keeps me happy ;^)
Anyone know which specific intake he has added? Sounds absolutely spectacular!!!
BEAUTIFUL 911 bill!
Fast forward to 2021 prices
“That’s my move” 😂 good one homie
I’m actually about to pick up a 997 carrera s or 4s video is a lot of help to hear about it and ideas to bolt ons
Bill has a nice jacket and sunglasses. He drives manual porches. Bill is cool. Vote Bill 2016.
Anybody know, what intake he put in this car. Do they have one that sounds similar for a 997.2? Bill's car sounds amazing.
+Sandeep M Hi, it's Bill.... ---K&N Intake Kit # 57-7000... My only concern would be to measure the diameter of your stock MAF
housing. This kit uses a 3 inch intake tube that the Maf plugs in to. If your stock maf diameter is bigger than that then your air flow
readings will be a bit off and cause a lean fuel ratio situation. I had the 82mm GT3 throttle body on for awhile, same as yours, and the hose

Do they make one for the 991.2 ? I want a intake kit that will give that incredible sound ! Its not to loud or quiet, just perfect.
qikqbn77 Hi Bill. Posting to an old video but I want this sound in an ‘06 C2S!! The K&N website lists that kit part number for the 3.6L only. Did you just fit it to the 3.8L anyway? +TheSmokingTire What kind of camera and microphone setup do you use? I have a 997 also and would like to capture the engine audio as well as your videos do!
+andy92782 The cameras are GoPro 4's. The audio is a Zoom H4N with a wired MXF lavalier.
When I dont own one for a while and I own other cars like M cars etc, i forget how amazing they are, then I drive one again and remember
