Joey, if we're going to call The World Ends With You a Kingdom Hearts spinoff, might as well call Toy Story, Big Hero 6, Lion King, and all the Disney films and Final Fantasy games that has been worlds and had characters show up in KH in the entire Kingdom Hearts series a spinoff. TWEWY and Kingdom Hearts has different settings (TWEWY is in Shibuya, it's practically a character in and of itself), and the only time they had a crossover is in Dream Drop Distance.
He did call a few episodes back Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne Persona 3 Nocturne, he says things like these because it's easier to convey the idea to people who don't know a whole lot about the specifics but will get the main point, people do this all the time, in this case a game by Nomura Tetsuya with his heavy auteur motifs becomes Kingdom Heart spin-off because you can't get more Nomura than Kingdom Hearts and every weeb understands the aesthetics and themes of that series at a surface level.
@@FUUUcarlencio while I get that it is made for simplification, it does not exactly fit this particular comparison. The thing about it is that SMT and Persona are practically the same in terms of the combat system and gameplay loop (even up to their terminologies for attacks used) and for most of the games, its setting, with some calling Persona "a lighthearted, family friendly, advertiser friendly SMT", or SMT being tagged as "Persona, but dark and edgy". In this case, the resemblance is basically uncanny. However, TWEWY and KH only has Nomura and DDD as their common denominator, and nothing else linking them. Combat styles and gameplay loop are different (except for NEO TWEWY, maybe), location is very different (SMT and Persona are still situated in Japan), their power system are different (in name, at least), the conflict and narrative structure they have is different, among other things. It's just misplaced in this discussion.

What if I dont care about what they intended? What if I dont have enough skill to paly trough what they intended? "Just dont play lol" What if i want to play that game anyways but the devs stupid decisions prevent me from doing it? High difficulty withotu any way to change is like microtransactions. On one hand you either git gud or gtfo, on the other you either pay or gtfo, no difference.
I think Garnt would like the Trails series a lot since he's into story and worldbuilding so much. It's also a pretty good time to get into it since Zero and Azure are being officially released in several months.
@G Trails definitely has one of the good turn based systems. It's tile base so it's like Tactics(sort of, you have to mind your position and some attacks have set reach and aoe), the Crafts, S Crafts, Chain Crafts are really good mechanics. And the newer games isn't even completely Turn Based, there is still turn based but it's both not turn based and turn based at the same time
Starting with the opening conversation on games, there's a difference in accessibility and difficulty, as people often conflate the two. The way devs and the masses think of difficulty is most often an adjustment numerically, as it would take a lot of extra work to recode enemy behavior to be easier/harder. Accessibility is mainly in enabling those who have difficulties outside the game itself needing help to even begin the experience, often those with impairments. These are often seen in option select, which in-turn are aptly optional, but allow for more people to play the game. Experiences are tailored to what the devs intend - if they opt not to have a difficulty select at the beginning, that's their choice. Elden Ring is legitimately the best example of a modern game without a difficulty select, where the difficulty is in what you decide to gather beforehand and choose to use during an enemy encounter - difficulty by choices in the game rather than in a menu before you've even started the game. I can sympathize with Conner not being able to beat the tutorial for Nier:Automata; when I first played it I didn't have the hand coordination to do what was asked of me. It took me starting over years later to get a full grasp of the controls, and it's now one of my favorite games of all time. I'd best describe the "endings" as multiple parts of a series, you can technically end at any point, but if you want you can/should continue with the other endings given how differently they play. Once I beat ending A I immediately wanted to know more, so I played B, which in-turn led to C. Honestly for the quality, those are some incredibly reasonable prices (at least for locally sourced figures), wish I had the budget to buy some of these. Maybe one day; that Cloud & Fenrir figure is SICK!~
Grant makes the best sad faces. On a side note, they need to bring some random like Chris to play the game. I don't collect figures so I was super off when I was guessing too.
FE3H uses new game+ feature which retains your school level and keeps your bond ranks with other characters which let you recruit them again asap. It's fair to say that FE3H's first half plays a large amount the same, but Connor didn't really look much into any of the post game stuff. Your average playthrough in new game+ is significantly faster than your first play through. I do agree with some of his complaints, but alot of it is misinformed.
To be fair, the first half of all three routes is exactly the same with slightly different cutscenes. It’s a slog having to go through that three times just to get to the actual cool part of the story in the different routes. His point does stand for Three houses, but not for bier automata. Play through 1 and 2 are largely the same but 3 is straight up a continuation of the story. It’s like playthrough 1 and 2 are actually the first half of the game and not really a full playthrough tbh
@@thewavyprince5691 He seems to be basing his argument on the notion that single player, story driven games can't have good gameplay. I'll compliment Connor for at least beating Tree Sentinel first right at the start in Elden Ring. Some people gave up on him not realizing he's optional boss. They should see the real tutorial boss, Ulcerated Tree Spirit.
While it was impressive. The reason I stopped watching was it was annoying to see someone being stubborn about it. And he admitted to it. Also insulting people that were just giving helpful advice. I mean if he plays every single optional boss. He will be doing this forever. 4hrs on a single optional boss is ridiculous. I was really confused as he "cheated" or used help for jump king. But didn't take it during the tree sentinel fight.
@@keodantes3907 Helpful advice???? That was nothing but people relentlesly repeating the same shit over and over again. He asked at the very beginng to let him fight this boss and backseaters kept repeating the same shit to no end.
@@Radiokillerpollo1 I wasn't there for the full 4hrs. But the last 3. Off and on. It's advice and was helpful. The community is built on providing guidance and tips. But also discovery of most things on their own. He kept being upset at dying or ways he died. So they likely felt the need to repeat. From what I could read it didn't seem rude of the chat. I never bother saying anything cause chat moves so fast.
For the record, in NieR Automata you only replay the first half of the game twice, and half of the second route is entirely different and the combat is different too. The other 2 main routes are all completely new story and content. Everything else is just for optional endings.
Joey also did better than him in Jump King on first try, Connor is like Vegeta from Dragon Ball. Always overestimating himself and buying into his own hype only to then choke.

In defense of 'Fire Emblem: Three Houses' from a gameplay standpoint from someone who strictly plays FE3H for the gameplay (on the highest difficulty) nowadays lol: FE3H is obviously more known for the three dedicated routes and how the narrative changes depending on which lord you want to support, but something which is not explicitly mentioned a lot is that the whole cast changes as well, each coming with different strengths and possibilities in gameplay. For example: Blue Lions has a lot of Lance Users, Golden Deer has a lot of Archers, Black Eagles is hard mode, meaning that you have to approach the maps differently depending on the route (of course each route has its fair share of unique maps and equipment as well). Additionally to that, FE3H's class mechanics specifically are very flexible, therefore you have a lot customisation on how you want your units to turn out (and you can recruit other characters to make one run more unique too). The gameplay loop is what it is, but what Connor in this case forgets is that there is the whole aspect of *Gameplay Progression*. Of course the story gives a nice incentive to play each route, but for me personally FE3H makes self-expression through party compositions and unit building very fun and this is why I still enjoy this game even after 600 hours. It is the gameplay choices!
he is totally correct though. If a game has a good gameloop you'll replay it at some point just for the ganeplay, but Fire emblem's gets boring after a while
He makes a valid point though. A satisfying gameplay loop keeps you hooked and interested. That's one of FF7R's strengths. The combat was amazing. I love story-driven games yet I've reached a point now where I'm sick of having to play games that have supposedly great stories but terrible gameplay. I need both.
I would replay NieR Automata (and probably Replicant v1.22... to a slightly lesser extent) multiple times even if absolutely nothing changed. The fact that it both gives you new perspectives, progresses the story AND leads to one of the greatest 4th wall breaking endings in gaming history is just a bonus.
Garnt: what is the story in Jump King? I mean, have you ever seen a more wholesome love story? That guy is willing to jump through hell and back for his babe!
Please he's playing 1/4 of a game and saying he completed it 🙃playing with new units, new backstories and new storylines in general counts as "the same thing" to him I guess. Meanwhile playing Jump King and pressing the space bar over and over is the satisfying gameplay loop he's looking for
Connor explaining the different game route is "just replaying" is like the multiverse theory and you going back in time doing something different. Sure, the gameplay's the same, but you get a different direction. It's still interesting to uncover mysteries and what-if's. It's just exactly like "would you go back in time to change one big thing in your life?"
I feel Connor's pain, I died like 3 or 4 times in the late stages of the Nier Automata intro... They really should have added some checkpoints or sth. I powered through it myself and I'm glad I did because I enjoyed the hell out of that game, wish Connor could enjoy it too
“bruh why would u play the new souls game, it’s just rolling and attacking and all the same fundamental mechanics ” or “why would u play the new fps game… etc etc is basically his argument
@@arseniykorchevskiy1564 That’s just not comparable to what he said at all. He has a problem with games that expect you to replay the same exact gameplay and as you usually start from the beginning this means you also lose a lot of the depth that got added as the game progressed. So you are basically expected to play the dumbed down version of the game to get more story (either directly or after some time). He also clearly said he has no problem when a game is so good you want to replay it. He has a problem with games that expect you to replay them to get the “full experience”.
I have to partially agree with Connor here on Three Houses. I absolutely loved that game, I even "had" to replay Blue Lions because dumbass me overwrote my original save file and I didn't make any backups in the other 20 save slots. Just out of spite I played Blue Lions on maddening that time. BUT the first half of the game "White Cloudes" felt like such a drag. You have to replay that part of the game at least 3 times (Meeting certain conditions enables you to choose between the Crimson Flower and Silver Snow route of the game, so you can save and copy your file before you can decide which route you want to play), 4 times if you want to make changes to your roaster for CF or SN. I know they cannot stray from the main story chapters, but it would've been nice if we didn't have to kill Lanato and Miklan 4 times in a row. It didn't bother me too much in the post timeskip chapters, mainly because, unless you recruite your favourites every time, you'll end up with different classes than in the previous route, you get access to new sidequests and the story will go different directions despite having battles at the same places again.
So basically..... Joey: Just admit you don't like story-based games. Just admit it. Connor: NO! I'm a gamer. Games are either just shit or not, not about liking or preferences.
Depends on your personal definition of chill, all 3 of the boys are very chill guys to me. Joey and Garnt are more or less tied and Connor’s the least chill (obviously because he plays it up for the camera)
Honestly Connor is kinda right about Three Houses. It would be different if they actually each had unique maps, but so much of the game is reused between different routes (even in Part 2). It's made even worse by the fact that any unit can use any class (aside from the main characters, as well as the gender-locked classes), so most characters feel pretty samey. It's a good game, but it would have been better if they cut it down to two routes and put more work into each.
Had a dream I was in taken hearing Joey screaming "WHAT IS HIS NAME?!" Woke up here after youtube autoplay to Joey saying "What is his name? What is the name of the character?" About 256 times in a row while all the boys are just chilling blindfolded for 10 minutes. That was a werid experience.
I only got one correct answer and it was the first figure. The rest were just busts LOL. Either way, it was fun watching the boys guessing the price of these amazing figures. Excited for the next stream with DEMONDICE Karen!
Beating nier replicant about 3 more times with 5 minutes of content added to the cutscenes and ending each time to finally get to (SPOILER) play as Kaine for about an hour and see the true ending was NOT worth it. Yoko Taro probably knows that since in automata you only need to replay a smaller part of the game with a DIFFERENT character (so the experience of replaying doesn't suck as much) and then the other half of the game continues normally. To see all main endings you just repeat the final boss. Imma agree with monke this time. If the devs want to make their games longer then they should actually add more content to it and not make me play the SAME EXACT game 4 times in a row. This is why i personally liked automata WAY more, it still had room to be weird and interesting in a yoko taro way but it never felt like a tedious chore.
Uggggggh, it hurt so much to hear Joey talk about The World Ends With You. The game is a standalone series, they just happened to have a one time cameo in Kingdom Hearts.

@@keodantes3907 i don’t even think the main problem is the toxicity, just the mental dissonance to not realize that replaying a game to get a new story is much more of a unique experience than literally replaying the same section of jump king dozens of times because the devs put a punishing jump that drops you to the beginning. By connor’s logic it seems like that is way more lazy design than something like nier… especially cause you can arguably have a great experience with nier only playing one route(though not the full experience) where as with jump king you’re only gonna feel satisfied with jump king when you beat a whole map.

We have a special message for you!
This game has several different storylines that change each time you play. You have witness the "A route." but there are still many story elements and changes to the gameplay systems you have not seen yet. We highly recommend you play through again to witness the full "Nier:Automata" experience.
We hope you enjoy the rest of the game!
Sincerly,

When I played Persona 4 I played on easy because I didnt want to grind for hours. Same with 3. But with Persona 5, combat was so fun, that I played on harder difficulties. I agree with Joey in 13:10

I think Garnt would like the Trails series a lot since he's into story and worldbuilding so much. It's also a pretty good time to get into it since Zero and Azure are being officially released in several months.
yeah trails is great
@G Trails definitely has one of the good turn based systems.
Hearing Joey completely misrepresent TWEWY as part of Kingdom Hearts is just painful
It was in KH:3D
The part where Gojo, Moonstone and 9S went hands on with the figures was very entertaining.

For the record, in NieR Automata you only replay the first half of the game twice, and half of the second route is entirely different and the combat is different too. The other 2 main routes are all completely new story and content. Everything else is just for optional endings.
My problem was that I played DMC5 right before Nier: Automata so I thought the combat was simple by comparison.

That Connor take on replaying games almost upset me.
In defense of 'Fire Emblem: Three Houses' from a gameplay standpoint from someone who strictly plays FE3H for the gameplay (on the highest difficulty) nowadays lol:
FE3H is obviously more known for the three dedicated routes and how the narrative changes depending on which lord you want to support, but something which is not explicitly mentioned a lot is that the whole cast changes as well, each coming with different strengths and possibilities in gameplay. For example:
Blue Lions has a lot of Lance Users,
Golden Deer has a lot of Archers,
Black Eagles is hard mode,
meaning that you have to approach the maps differently depending on the route (of course each route has its fair share of unique maps and equipment as well).

Lately they are all having some really weird takes, I never could've imagined that Connor would say shit like that
@@arseniykorchevskiy1564 That’s just not comparable to what he said at all.
He only played Jump King once. After he finished it, he never play it again, except for the DLCs.
It didn't bother me too much in the post timeskip chapters, mainly because, unless you recruite your favourites every time, you'll end up with different classes than in the previous route, you get access to new sidequests and the story will go different directions despite having battles at the same places again.
damn, Joey's looking extra good here, love the new look😊
Not even 20 minutes in and my brain is melting from these takes.

Had a dream I was in taken hearing Joey screaming "WHAT IS HIS NAME?!"
Woke up here after youtube autoplay to Joey saying "What is his name? What is the name of the character?" About 256 times in a row while all the boys are just chilling blindfolded for 10 minutes.

Connor's take on games where you need to "replay" the game for other routes is total shit. I can't imagine not playing through all of NieR's routes.
lol literally monke take
I normally agree with Connor's takes but this one wasn't even good enough to be 'trash.' Some kind of... super trash.
He's literally played through Jump King 10+ times, and it's exactly the same every time
