They gotta isolate the affected section (hope is not to long of a section and pipe diameter rather small) between working valves, so the fuel can consume faster to allow for repairs. I would think that the pipeline owner/operator would see a decrease in the pressure. One of the other commenters mentioned that the gas would have to burn off.
If you put the fire out then you have a bunch of hot explosive gas leaking out instead that will lead to a massive multi block leveling explosion. Instead they've shut the pipe on both ends and are burning off all the fuel in the line, which on a long segment can be a long time.
Energy Transfer is the company and it has had multiple pipeline fires including one in 2022. Pretty sure they weren't even fined $1 million. Some of these fires burn over 2 months like in 2023 in Harris County

This happened in Coolidge, Arizona a couple of years back. Underground gas pipeline ruptured and killed a couple of people.

I've seen a few natural gas pipeline burns, but this one is awful black for liquid nature gas. Its a 20" line, probably running 600 psi.
