Hi Nick :) Thanks again for all the tips and tricks! I learned a lot for my future Mercedes that I will have at the end of this year (2023). 5:23 that could be a workaround for the "next track" button (for iOS CarPlay) that disappeared with the touchpad in the 2023 Mercedes A class! Greeting from France 😊
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them! Oh yes I’ll work on that soon! When you’re driving just say “Next Track” You don’t need to say anything else, just those two words. It works surprisingly well!
I tried some of your tips and tricks on the 2020 GLA 200. And the voice commands work great! Maybe I'll use them when I no longer have the touchpad on the 2023 CLA 250e...
Hey Dave yes they are but the one problem, you are then reliant on the people who upload them to websites. Have you used them before and do you know if they get updated often?

Hi Nick, very useful videos. Thanks for that. Can you say how to disable instant traffic news which activates when there is traffic on the road or an accident on the road? While listening to the radio or music, these reports just shoot through and mute your radio or music. Thanks in advance
Interesting comment re Mercedes in Germany not allowing speed camera notifications when a current BMW 5 series has a downloadable BMW app for £20 a year which displays fixed cameras in the digital dashboard display. Pretty much a 100% hit rate for fixed cameras 👍
as someone living in Germany I can confirm that it is not allowed to use such an app while being the driver(the passenger is however, I use Flitsmeister, or I must say, my passenger does)
Hey Matthew, Yes there are 🤓 I have produced a video on Android Auto last year. My knowledge on them is slightly limited just because my daily is an iPhone but I did buy one to make this video: ruclips.net/video/iInErxqLKsQ/видео.html
Hi, that was a great video with some interesting insight. I just wanted to know that is there a way where I can use my phone’s hotspot to run internet browser in my GLC 2021?
Hi prateek, Thank you and glad you enjoyed the video! No you can’t as the car is not designed to do that. You can send internet from your car to your phone or tablet but not the other way round. This is a very common question and covered briefly in 7:24 in this video: ruclips.net/video/tu_Aktw93v4/видео.html Hope that helps 🤓
Hi Nick thanks again for a great video, could you tell me if you can customise the ambient lighting to the driving mode you are in ? I.e. setting sport mode to Red, Eco mode to Green thanks.
Haha no worries There’s loads of tech on Mercedes cars and even the amount of videos I have now….there is a huge amount to cover I sometimes have to double check if I’ve covered something before! Haha 😂
BMW now offers an app for $25/year, which is called Traffic Camera which warns you of speed and red-light cameras. It gets it's info from a database which may not be updated frequently, as some school speed cameras have recently been installed, but the app does not have that info yet. Apple navigation is great with that info, but it only works if you are navigating somewhere. Just driving around in you local area does not give you warnings unless you are navigating formally with a predetermined destination. BTW, nobody care about wallpaper. Not even worth discussing.
When you're using Apple CarPlay it replaces the multimedia systems features on a car so this is normal for some models out there. The way round this is to press the voice button on the steering wheel but hold for Siri on your phone, that way you have two voice assistants! 😎
It depends on the model Models with the portrait styles screen do have an option as they have a new multimedia system called NTG 7 (MBUX v2) Models with landscape screens sadly can’t
Hi Nick great vids. Problem when I’m in apple car play there’s no way of switching songs unless I go back to the apple car play screen Other cars had skip tracks buttons on steering wheel ??? Cheers
Hey Richard, which model of Mercedes and year do you have as it can vary between them 🤓 Let me know and I’ll try and help explain the different ways you can
Ah so on the touchpad in the middle of the car there’s a next track button. If you press it, you can then swipe left or right to change the track. However if you wanted to do this on the steering wheel, just Press Home and the swipe across to Media and then swipe the touch pad up / down
I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before. The reason is because MBUX is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything. So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen. Fingers crossed that future models have a workaround for this 🤞🏼
When I use the phone through Apple Car Play, the radio volume automatically goes silent in my Mercedes, which is great. However, when the call ends, the radio does not automatically come back on: I have to say, Hey Mercedes, “radio”. This is very annoying. Any solution?
Hey Sam, yes this will happen as they are two separate systems. When you use Apple CarPlay, it takes over a car’s multimedia system. Ideally it’s best just to stick with one or the other. For example if you’re going to use your phone, if you use TuneIn Radio, this will allow you to use Radio on the CarPlay interface.
When I first got my car all features worked fine, but recently it won’t project calls. I can hear the buttons when I dial but the actual call is only on my phone not in my car
Hi Nick, I just purchased a 2018 Nissan Leaf and I notice that blutooth audio works very well Pandora, TIDAL etc... but when using any music app through Apple CarPlay it contionusly stutters. Very frustrating, any ideas? I'm new to CarPlay but not to the iPhone. Is this a known problem? I'm hoping there is a simple solution, audio is a big deal for me and if I can't get audio working then CarPlay is pretty much worthless to me. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks
Oh how strange…I mean CarPlay is your phone so there isn’t really any processing done on the car’s side as such. Things I’d try first, try: 1) Your phone in a different car with CarPlay (if you can). See if the same thing happens. 2) Try another iPhone on your Nissan Leaf (again if you can). 3) Make sure you’re on the latest iOS (currently iOS 16.6, soon iOS 17. This shouldn’t make a difference but just a thought). 4) Is it wired or Wireless, if it’s wireless does it do the same wired 5) If wired have you tried changing the cable Just a few to try to start 🤓 hopefully you’ll get it sorted!
Thank you Nick, i’m learning sooo much by your videos! I think it’s pretty disappointing by MB to have such a small, cropped, screen for Apple Car Play, and still no wireless connection on every model. Buying this add-on for about €400 might not be worthy in my opinion.
Thank you Tiziano! Glad you’re loving the content! I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before. The reason is because MBUX is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything. Yes that was COMAND and there was only one screen size for that version so Mercedes could adopt one size for all screens. Because MBUX is available in 7” and 10.25”, when coding it for a multimedia system you can only choose one to maintain compatibility.
A feature I love is to use Find Friends to find the location on an individual. I can get directions to that individual or them to me. An example would be to have my daughter meet me at a grocery store in a ten acre parking lot. Once I’m there, she can follow directions to within 25 feet of where I am parked. This is fine when two cars are heading to a location they both know, like a mall. But what if I was traveling to a mall the daughter didn’t know? I would like her to also be able to Find Friends and get dynamic directions to where I am at/going. Said another way, like aircraft can do, I would want her car to be in follow mode. This would negate staying in visual range. Is there any way to use Apple, Google, or Waze alone or together to create that capability?
Ah yes that is a good feature Brian! I use it to! But sadly it’s a limitation of Apple CarPlay whereby you can’t view that information from Apple CarPlay itself. The only thing you can do is view it on your phone screen and navigate from there which will then go to Apple CarPlay.
Hey Nick, Your videos have been very helpful to me as a new MB owner. Watched a quite a few of them. Is it possible to have heads up display to show navigate instructions from care play for instead of car sat nav? I have 2022 GLE US model.
Hey Dinesh p, thank you! Glad you’re enjoying them! No sadly Apple CarPlay of course being designed by Apple, they have only designed it for the main multimedia screen in cars. That would be good for future models though if they did design that in the future!
I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before. The reason is because MBUX is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. Nice review Nick. I've just moved over to Apple due to Apple watch. I am disappointed with CarPlay. I find it very limiting for some of the navigation, Google simply nail it better with less commands needed for basic things. Perhaps a like for like comparison could be an idea for a video?
@@npoleary Kind of but more of the experience of using Applecarplay vs `Android Auto. As via Voice Command they are completely different and have pro's and cons.
With the new mobile phone laws in UK, how can I set up car play legally in a car that has start/stop button instead of key start? Car that has key start, you can turn key until dashboard lights up, set up car play, then turn key rest of the way to start the engine. You can’t do this in a car with stop start button. The definition of safely parked is engine off not handbrake on, out of gear. If anyone can give me the answer, it would be appreciated.
Great video as always, and very useful. Slightly off topic, I apologise. Windscreen wipers ! They continue to wipe with the engine off after parking, if you get out whilst the wipers are wiping they stop immediately on the screen. Am I missing a trick? I'm an airplay guru thanks to your vids, well presented, crystal clear and understandable, unmissable.
Hey Daryn, thank you! Glad you’re loving the videos! No sadly you’re not missing a trick, some Mercedes-Benz models from a few years ago still did this. Unfortunately just the way they are New models coming out now don’t do this anymore from what I’ve seen
@@npoleary thanks Nick. If it wasn’t for your awesome vids I’d have given up on the MBUX , thanx to you it makes sense. And I have customised my AirPlay wallpaper. Keep up the good work, very appreciated.
Hi nick, really helpful advise again, can you help with connecting my I pod with the wired connection, just keeps coming up with device unsupported, thanks again.
Which model of Mercedes do you have James and what year? Sounds like you have MBUX, and sadly as Apple discontinued them years ago, the software isn’t available anymore so Mercedes weren’t able to get support on it. The only thing you can do in this situation is get the songs onto a USB memory stick or something or an iPhone : iPod touch and Bluetooth it wirelessly.
Make sure you are using an Apple USB cord. Try a different one if the first one doesn't work. my wifes was giving her problems and Iswapped to a new cord and it worked fine. Also, clean the contacts on the USB with rubbing alcohol. Cheers
Hey Kbees MOT, having used both in varying makes and models, I actually prefer a wired experience. Wireless is extremely convenient but it takes an extremely long time to charge the phone (especially if you’re running maps and playing music of course with a wireless charger). It can also get hotter than using a cable too which for battery longevity isn’t the best solution. Future models I’m sure will have it, we’ll just have to wait and see! 🤓
You could use Apple’s Dashboard feature for multitasking 🤓 Bottom left or bottom right when it’s running: images.app.goo.gl/3jY97ei9Xegc5QQi6 (Photo above)
Hi Nick! Been watching different videos in your playlist for over an hour now! You are very good at what you do! Question. I have the 2021 gls 450 and I seen a video of yours at the end of it it showed how you can read your text messages yourself and not have them read to you. I cannot find that video now, also I use the mercedes maps sometimes because I like the traffic lights showing up, but for the life of me when I use it my compass does not show up on my HUD or the screens. But noticed it when I do not use any maps. Why is that? Also what is your favorite maps that you use. I use google also and notice leaving my development it takes me a long and winding road way out instead of the straight shot making a left and a right. I have it set to the fastest. That is strange. Thanks for your help...
Hey Delores, thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the videos! I’ll keep them coming each week! Ah that was probably this one: ruclips.net/video/4R1tlbSOIDo/видео.html Just make sure you’ve got “Show Notifications” enabled if you have an iPhone in your Bluetooth menu. Android’s show this option when connecting it via Bluetooth. With MBUX, I can’t remember if there was the menu option to just read the message yourself. I’m sure there was “Read Allowed” but it might be something only on COMAND (the previous multimedia system). With the Sat Nav, I’ve used them all to be honest. Mercedes mapping, Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze and they’re all really good. I might do a comparison one day! 👀 For your development, if it’s gated it might be possible that the mapping provider might not have been able to map which route is the fastest as they might not be allowed in (not sure how it works there). But if you’ve got updates enabled they’ll update eventually hopefully!
@@npoleary Ok Nick thank you again. I will check for updates . Where would that be to make sure I get notified? Also I do have my iphone notifications on and all I can do is have the car read them back to me..... Thanks again...
Sadly it’s just the way MBUX works it can only read messages out. The same goes for Apple CarPlay, it will only read them to you. I’m guessing it’s a safety thing that manufacturers have implemented on cars now 🤓
@@npoleary Thanks Nick yeah that is what is is... Safety issue but you can get into more trouble remembering where everything is on the mbux system to get to things hitting the screen and scrolling that screen when your driving...
Hi Nick, I just picked up my AClass 180 on Thursday from sandown poole and josh did the handover, can you play RUclips or Netflix on apple car play or via Bluetooth? Thanks
Hey Mauricio, Ooo very nice! No sadly you can’t play it visually on the screen but if your phone is connected via USB either through MBUX or Apple CarPlay, you can play the audio through the car. I wouldn’t recommend video content though if you’re intend it to watch it as there is a delay over Bluetooth.
I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before. The reason is because MBUX is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. hi Nick - I am curious of your opinion - even a Skoda, Kia or Hyundai has wireless Car Play in 2021. What makes Mercedes delay the decision to enable wireless Car Play? Without such basic options, It looks like we own a cheap expensive car... I know you are doing this for community and you don't have all the answers, so I am curious on just a highlevel view on this
Hi Ama, well it’s an interesting topic wireless Apple CarPlay however it’s not the fact that Mercedes don’t want to enable it, it’s the fact it doesn’t exist on the current version of MBUX. Most of us are quite familiar with new phones that come out every year, although very complex, Smartphone manufacturers have a product life cycle every year (hence a new iPhone every year). However cars are very very complex, not to mention the gadgets inside, they also undergo rigorous safety checks not just Mercedes but by others too. So with all of this in mind, Mercedes life cycles are 6-7 years (meaning a new one comes out every 6-7 years). This seems like a long time but when MBUX was made years ago, wireless Apple CarPlay wasn’t too commonly sought after. Mercedes have started to role out wireless Apple CarPlay but because of the 6-7 year life cycle, it takes a very long time especially when Mercedes have 30+ models. Currently as of now, wireless Apple CarPlay is available in the new C-Class & S-Class. I’m sure they’re working on it for new models in the future but I wouldn’t know for sure. I hope that helps explain a little! 🤓

I have produced a video on Android Auto last year. My knowledge on them is slightly limited just because my daily is an iPhone but I did buy one to make this video: ruclips.net/video/iInErxqLKsQ/видео.html
Doesn’t the radio have to be updated to CarPlay 15 first?
Hi Nick, which vehicle are you sitting in for this video please? Cheers
EQA for the first bit 🤓
The iOS15 bit at the end was a GLC 63 S SUV 😎
@@npoleary Thank you!
Hi, that was a great video with some interesting insight. I just wanted to know that is there a way where I can use my phone’s hotspot to run internet browser in my GLC 2021?
Hi prateek,
Thank you and glad you enjoyed the video! No you can’t as the car is not designed to do that. You can send internet from your car to your phone or tablet but not the other way round.
This is a very common question and covered briefly in 7:24 in this video: ruclips.net/video/tu_Aktw93v4/видео.html
Hope that helps 🤓
Hi Nick thanks again for a great video, could you tell me if you can customise the ambient lighting to the driving mode you are in ? I.e. setting sport mode to Red, Eco mode to Green thanks.
Thanks BillM,
Covered that last week 🤓

🤓
Hi Nick, I did watch that video I should have paid more attention thanks again cheers.
Haha no worries
There’s loads of tech on Mercedes cars and even the amount of videos I have now….there is a huge amount to cover
I sometimes have to double check if I’ve covered something before!
I’m having an issue where “Hey Mercedes” command does not work when Apple Car Play is connected. Have you heard of this happening to others?
When you're using Apple CarPlay it replaces the multimedia systems features on a car so this is normal for some models out there.
The way round this is to press the voice button on the steering wheel but hold for Siri on your phone, that way you have two voice assistants! 😎
Does the hold up Siri duction work with Google Assistant for Android?
It is possible to change to sat maps in mbux when zooming out
It depends on the model
Models with the portrait styles screen do have an option as they have a new multimedia system called NTG 7 (MBUX v2)
Models with landscape screens sadly can’t
Hi Nick great vids. Problem when I’m in apple car play there’s no way of switching songs unless I go back to the apple car play screen
Other cars had skip tracks buttons on steering wheel ???
Cheers
Hey Richard, which model of Mercedes and year do you have as it can vary between them 🤓
Let me know and I’ll try and help explain the different ways you can
@@npoleary hi nick, I’m in a 2019 AMG A35 👍
Ah so on the touchpad in the middle of the car there’s a next track button.
If you press it, you can then swipe left or right to change the track. However if you wanted to do this on the steering wheel, just Press Home and the swipe across to Media and then swipe the touch pad up / down
@@npoleary great thanks Nick
When is the fullscreen CarPlay available?
Too bad there’s no wireless Apple CarPlay
When I first got my car all features worked fine, but recently it won’t project calls. I can hear the buttons when I dial but the actual call is only on my phone not in my car
Hey Dewayne which model of Mercedes do you have and what year? And also which phone do you have?
Things I’d try first, try:
1) Your phone in a different car with CarPlay (if you can). See if the same thing happens.
2) Try another iPhone on your Nissan Leaf (again if you can).
3) Make sure you’re on the latest iOS (currently iOS 16.6, soon iOS 17. This shouldn’t make a difference but just a thought).
4) Is it wired or Wireless, if it’s wireless does it do the same wired
5) If wired have you tried changing the cable
Just a few to try to start 🤓 hopefully you’ll get it sorted!
Hi Nick. What’s the track pad you’re using? Seems that could be quite useful.
Some newer Mercedes have a trackpad in the middle in replacement of the wheel
Is that the one you mean? 🤓
Andriod as well ?
You can get speed cameras on Google Maps on Android Auto too! 🤓

@@npoleary Maybe it isn’t the same on these new models but on my 2020 (Pre mbux) E class, apple car play covers the entire left hand display
The other person has to share there location to you and you have to star rout and than try to plug in
Hey Nick,
Your videos have been very helpful to me as a new MB owner.
One of the biggest question in this new MBUX is why the carplay is not Full Screen just like the previous version !!
I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before.

Nice review Nick. I've just moved over to Apple due to Apple watch. I am disappointed with CarPlay. I find it very limiting for some of the navigation, Google simply nail it better with less commands needed for basic things. Perhaps a like for like comparison could be an idea for a video?
Thanks Starmedia Tech! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Is that an Apple Maps like a vs Google Maps comparison?
@@npoleary Kind of but more of the experience of using Applecarplay vs `Android Auto. As via Voice Command they are completely different and have pro's and cons.
@@MrRawUK me I like using the Waze app
With the new mobile phone laws in UK, how can I set up car play legally in a car that has start/stop button instead of key start? Car that has key start, you can turn key until dashboard lights up, set up car play, then turn key rest of the way to start the engine. You can’t do this in a car with stop start button. The definition of safely parked is engine off not handbrake on, out of gear. If anyone can give me the answer, it would be appreciated.
Hey Cate, with a start / stop button, just press it without your foot on the brake. This will put the ignition on without the engine 🤓
Unfortunately just the way they are
New models coming out now don’t do this anymore from what I’ve seen
Thanks Nick, yes it's a 2022 so that makes sense I can blue tooth it but the battery's life is not great now, great channel regards Jim.
Make sure you are using an Apple USB cord. Try a different one if the first one doesn't work. my wifes was giving her problems and Iswapped to a new cord and it worked fine. Also, clean the contacts on the USB with rubbing alcohol. Cheers
Great content thank you for that. I am wondering if you get problems with voice phone calls on carplay on MBUX? And if so how can I fix it. Thanks
Thank you!
What problems are they?
1- Frequent diformt phone call boice
2- foremost connect to MBUX through the Wired connection type C
Am I seeing this correctly, the Merc needs to physically plug a lead in to the phone to use Car Play, a little outdated isn't?
Hey Kbees MOT, having used both in varying makes and models, I actually prefer a wired experience.
Wireless is extremely convenient but it takes an extremely long time to charge the phone (especially if you’re running maps and playing music of course with a wireless charger). It can also get hotter than using a cable too which for battery longevity isn’t the best solution.
Future models I’m sure will have it, we’ll just have to wait and see! 🤓

Can I do this in my TOYOLA
As long as it has Apple CarPlay 🤓
Pretty much everything in this video should apply to that too!
Ah that was probably this one: ruclips.net/video/4R1tlbSOIDo/видео.html
Just make sure you’ve got “Show Notifications” enabled if you have an iPhone in your Bluetooth menu.
For your development, if it’s gated it might be possible that the mapping provider might not have been able to map which route is the fastest as they might not be allowed in (not sure how it works there).
Safety issue but you can get into more trouble remembering where everything is on the mbux system to get to things hitting the screen and scrolling that screen when your driving...
where is part 1 and 2?
On my dedicated Apple CarPlay Playlist 🤓

Hi Nick, I just picked up my AClass 180 on Thursday from sandown poole and josh did the handover, can you play RUclips or Netflix on apple car play or via Bluetooth? Thanks
Hey Mauricio,
Ooo very nice!
No sadly you can’t play it visually on the screen but if your phone is connected via USB either through MBUX or Apple CarPlay, you can play the audio through the car.
I wouldn’t recommend video content though if you’re intend it to watch it as there is a delay over Bluetooth.
When mercedes will support showing car play full screen
I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before.

hi Nick - I am curious of your opinion - even a Skoda, Kia or Hyundai has wireless Car Play in 2021.
@@npoleary thank you! Brings clarity
