Claude jokes most with Byleth instead of the other way around because...well its claude 🤣 byleth eventually jokes more as the story progress. With Edelgard (i have this memorized as it was my first route 🤣) Byleth can tease her but she will respond (tsundere ish😳) but if you notice, in post ts CF, she is much more welcoming and used to Byleth jokes....which makes sense because of her circumstances in pre ts 😭
Byleth in Azure moon is such a cute dumbass, really, i don't remember this attitude in any of the other routes, it's like they gave Byleth this personality trait but only when Dimitri is around.
I think that the reason for it might be that since Byleth barely displays emotion for their whole life before meeting the students their personality varies slightly depending on the house they pick and more importantly what the house leader brings out of them and I'm pretty sure the only thing Dimitri needs more than a good laugh is a god damn hug.

I honestly do think it was intentional. Dimitri's character has the most depth of any lord since he's the one who overcomes internal conflict. However, that doesn't mean they had to integrate romantic Byleth moments into his storyline. For example, did he really need to walk out of the palace hand-in-hand with her? Why did they choose to have him mention how warm her hands were rather than something like a reluctant form of thanking her for being there for him? There's also the "mesmerizing" line. His story would've been fine on its own merits and didn't require any of that happening at the most pivotal moments to work. Definitely think it was a conscious effort to present a narrative ship on the part of the developers.

(Be warned, I was my german and english teachers favourite student when it came to analysing poetry) The „warm hands“ part was for me showing how different Byleth was from him. He was described as cold hearted and acted cold to everyone around him. So her being warm in contrast to him being cold and in cold dark weather (it was raining) showed him what he missed. Also him asking if they always have been showcased how he never noticed it before as he may have been closer to the „warmth“ before and as he notices that not everything has to be cold, that holding her hand gives him the warmth that he has been missing and maybe even thought he didn’t deserve (as we know he kept himself away). Also hand are often used in the context oft leading, being ones anchor and being the first where two humans usually touch each other. Oh and it probably was intended to be the goddess helping him (he said this whole goddess not giving her hand when needed and if she does, they wouldn’t be able to take it. He didn’t take it when they first met after nearly 5 years) To the holding hands at the end part. I actually saw this as a reference to the other „holding hands“ moments (Goddess tower pre and post timeskip, rain scene) he tried to turn away to look at Edelgard because he was sad. In the end, he didn’t want to kill he. I guess Byleth was afraid that, if he would turn around and see her corpse, she would become one of his ghosts and everyone would slowly loose him again to the ghosts. The hand holding was simply to bring him back on earth (like the time in the rain) and to drag him away from his traumatic past. Oh yeah and the whole Goddess reaching out and helping him thing. If you read all of this, I‘m sorry and congrats for reading all this interpretation thingy. But yeah, I do get what you mean by that and due to me romancing him with my fem!Byleth and also saw it like this. I still wanted to show you possible ways to see these moments \(^^)/ hope that is okay

Byleth adjusting to social life and Dimitri with that weird sense of humor 😆 but as the story progresses, they become familiar with each other's antics (especially Dimitri). He learns byleth's sense of humor and also develops his own. Like, they understand each other's terrible jokes 😆😆
Byleth seems to grow a sense of humor in all routes, in slightly different ways. With Dmitri they just act like a dork, with El they like to push her buttons (literally one of the C support options in Japanese is basically just admitting you were getting up in the middle of the night to smash... her), and with Claude... honestly just playing the straight man.
This is the best version of Byleth throughout the game. She does not show THIS much emotion and expression of thought so early on in the game in any other route beside Azure Moon and that is why for me, Azure Moon is the more engaging route.
I feel like if Male and Female Byleth were brother and sister that Female Byleth would have a cute/childish sense of humor, while Male Byleth would be the kinda guy who tries to cheer you up after your dog dies by trying to make a joke about how his dog died too and he'd still have that same dead face stair like he's peering into your soul seeing if the joke landed or not.
Weirdly enough I see it the other way around, with fem Byleth having dark as oil mercenary humor but the charisma to somehow pull it off. Meanwhile her brother would try to make harmless jokes and puns but that dead stare would just make everyone think he's 100% serious
I always loved the troll answers you could give. I loved how Annette chimed in that she would make you something to eat after it was over. It was cute and funny for some reason. I feel like I was always just trolling Dimitri and he still loved me for it.

My first time playing Fire Emblem and I chose Blue Lions bc of the amount of husbandos there. Ashe is cute, Sylvain has his own story, Felix is as stubborn as a horse, Dedue is loyal af and then there's Dimitri who felt like a puppy following the professor around in the first half. I wasn't mentally prepared for what happened to him after the timeskip 😭 The scene with him in the shadows with his spear... Child was left unattended for 5 years, man. I'm getting off-track. Anyway, I actually chose those silly options and I'm just glad Dimitri responded with that laughter of his. ❤️ Oh and... How did you get to have his hair tied up like that? :")
When it comes to Dimitri, i usually try to choice according to certain circumstances. But also at times, i like to break the rules just to take Dimitri out of his serious appearance. He's so mochi inside of him, but he doesn't like anyone else to notice that lol

I know the whole separation of Church and State is a good thing, but Byleth and Dimitri were made for each other and should definitely not be separated.
At first I loved the Golden Deers, mainly because of Claude. Then I chose Blue Lions(?) and I absolutely fell hard for DImitri and I wanted to heal his poor tortured soul in the time skip :( I haven't finished the Blue Lions(?) route yet but I started Edelgarde's house's route and I find it interesting... I'm not completely sympathetic towards her yet but we'll see. If only there was a fourth route where you're neutral to everything and can bring peace to all three kingdoms/factions and protect the church at the same time while telling Rhea off (I'm sorry, I'm not all that sympathetic to Rhea. Yeah, she lost her mother but she has a strange wierd ass obsession with her mother and she comes off as completely manipulative and self-righteous.

I know the whole separation of Church and State is a good thing, but Byleth and Dimitri were made for each other and should definitely not be separated.
This almost convinced me to resume playing after a year of being mad at the game. Almost.
…what happened?
At first I loved the Golden Deers, mainly because of Claude. Then I chose Blue Lions(?) and I absolutely fell hard for DImitri and I wanted to heal his poor tortured soul in the time skip :( I haven't finished the Blue Lions(?) route yet but I started Edelgarde's house's route and I find it interesting... I'm not completely sympathetic towards her yet but we'll see. If only there was a fourth route where you're neutral to everything and can bring peace to all three kingdoms/factions and protect the church at the same time while telling Rhea off (I'm sorry, I'm not all that sympathetic to Rhea. Yeah, she lost her mother but she has a strange wierd ass obsession with her mother and she comes off as completely manipulative and self-righteous.
More valuable than humor?
