thanks for this scott! really helpful! Im budgeting after i have paid rent, insurance and visa, as i have put aside money specifically for this. But this really helped me work it out! thank you! keep up the good work!
We eat as fresh as is possible buying from grocery stores here as we comute by bicycle and bus. so not much frozen food, but produce is already a few days old when it arrives at the store
It really depends on if you want to travel a lot within Thailand and party. If you have no dept just walk around and look at things and have a moped and hang out on the beach it is pretty cheap. But then again I do not spend much money in Canada either.
Scott, Ive been to Thailand 13 times over the last 10 years. At this moment we're on the island of Koh Chang- for the past 7 days now my buddy and I have to say $500 wont go very far. you need more $1000 a month to make ends meet here. E.g., Dental, Medical, fun, transportation ect ect
Theres a guy who vlogs about retire cheap in asia. He has a lot of good info. Its definately not that cheap in Asia in all catagories. Housing, food, and services, but anything like appliances and such are higher there
Yes, and Thailand is great for cheap housing, in Florida where I come from $1000 a month is the lease, and then add Power and water, crazy, in Thailand the money can go way more, it is wonderful, in Florida I know many people that live off $2000 a month, I am not sure how they do it, but they do, I am turning my businesses into Internet businesses now, so I can live anywhere in the world, nothing to hold me down, My wife and son are Thai too
One thing I can't get over is how much cheaper it seems to be to get drunk in Australia if you're sly about it. In Australia you can buy 5 litres of wine for a little over 10 dollars. No idea why people have such an antipathy to wine. It makes you piss less for one thing, and every single restaurant is a BYO wine restaurant whether they know it or not. They can throw me out if they want to. If they do, my next stop is some place that won't. Alcoholics unite.
Even if it is a thousand a month it is 12,000 a year. My water bill is 200 every two months - my gas bill is at least 200 every three months, electricity 150 every three months, my shire rates 2000 a year, my phone and computer 80 a month, (luckily i do not have a mortgage) but there is house insurance, car insurance, health insurance (single lowest kind 60 a month), taxes, car registration 400+ a year . Well, even if living off 500 is hard for some - you are eons ahead of living in Perth Australia - People say, wow i make 75,000 a year but we can take off 34 cents in the dollar for tax right away. Out of that average wage a year - there is little left and i have not even started on the cost of living - petrol - house maintenance, food, clothing - family - school fees - it literally never stops. So, 500 or 1000 that includes everything go for it.
My wife is from the Philippines and fresh market food is cheaper, but grocery store prices are higher than US. Same with department store prices. Most things are higher. They dont seem to grasp shopping around and theres rarely any sales
Yes, i'm sorry i meant to say "(that's about AUD$562 a week)". I'm visiting Thailand for the first time in oct and plan to go to chiang mai,ko pha ngan and phuket thus, giving me a wide geographical & financial comparison. Yes, i agree it essentially comes down to personal preference.I like the fact that you only have to prove you have an adequate income & don't have to put money in their banks. In the Philippines, their banks have a bad habit of going insolvent.cheers!
I'm currently living in one of those closets with a bed that you spoke of, only I would be paying 6765 a month rather than 1000-2000. I'm handing the living conditions rather well, and the idea of an extra 4000-5000 baht to spend on food or alcohol seems really appealing to me. Any ideas on where to find cheaper places that are more or less central? Just to mention alcohol; the added expense is a problem anywhere, so back home i used to make my own. I wonder if that would be feasible in Thailand
I can live off $500 a month easy in Thailand, but i don't need too, but your right, if you are willing to live modestly you can very easy live off $500 a month
the uk pound is crap against the thai baht at the moment, makes a big difference if it drops anymore everything will cost more and this adds up in a year
to me I like to use a place I live for only sleep, holding a few things, not much, I don't like to be held down by stuff, and a place to get mail, other then that, I spend almost NO time at home, home is to sleep and store things, everyday I am out enjoying earth :) a very Buddhist way of living I have
Sorry I thought about one more thing ! It actually makes sense. Developed countries are more expensive than less developed. Cambodia is less developed than Thailand, therefore cheaper. The UN / NGOs and other do-gooders drive up the price on some luxury items they require but get away from their areas and products and I'm pretty sure Camb expat Life is cheaper. :-D
As i have been told, the border run for 30 days visa is as cheap as about 1000 buts in worst case because there are NO air tickets needed to make a border run :).
should tell viewers about the Visa's for people that have a Thai kid or wife, or husband, you can stay for one year, then do a quick PP run to Cambodia for a few days and done, the best way.
Scott, Great stuff. I hadn't thought about the Visa and having to travel out of country regularly. Your PDF has a great break down of normal expenses. the detail is excellent. Most of us don't think about the small stuff that adds up. Question: What are the prospects of teaching part time to supplement income? I have a BS degree ( and soon a Masters) What would be the expected income? It will be 18 24 months before I can make the transition. I look forward to buying you a beer etc thank you.
Some sound advice Scott. I read somewhere that some nationalities can get a retirement visa provided they have a monthly income of at least THB 65,000 (that's about AUD$562 a month) for a single non-smoking & drinking person with modest tastes in accommodation-this would cut it? As indicated in comments here further north eg chang mai seems to be the go as things are cheaper there. But,inland the heat would be a killer & nearer to the beach slightly cooler.
I've lived in Thailand over 6 years and had to start cutting back on my spending after huge loses in my savings from medical bills and bad stock investments. I have found it's possible to live a respectable and comfortable life in a nice condo with a pool & gym centrally located near the beach on $700 a month with a few nights out a week for some drinks or dinner (I quit smoking 15 months ago and drink very little). Also note I don't give money to a Thai girlfriend anymore and live alone. I too do photo work and a have blog on this subject if anyone wants to compare notes, chok dee sabai sabai...
It gets even WORSE. There is now an e-book offered on Amazon about "How To Live In Vietnam for 300 Dollars A Month". Is there NO limit to the gullibility? I'm sure that SOME things are cheaper in Vietnam, but who wants to live like a pauper anywhere in the world? My total income for Thailand retirement is about 2400 dollars a month and I will have to watch every dollar.
Karl, I have not been to Vietnam, only Thailand. I keep reading about how cheap that Vietnam is but you can't live there any cheaper than you can in Thailand and you certainly can't live on 300 a month as the e-book suggests. Vietnam is on my list of places to visit when I retire in Thailand. Vietnam does NOT have a retirement visa, though. You have to leave the country every ninety days and come back in and get a new visa.
Fred Azbell I have been to Vietnam and Thailand and I can confirm that the cost of living in Vietnam is cheaper. However, in major cities like Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) you'll have to fork out a little more than you would everywhere else.
Air bender I would NOT doubt that Vietnam is cheaper.......but 300 US dollars a MONTH????? Let's be reasonable. The natives may live on that but first world expats will need more to be happy. Scott has the rational view here. You have to ask yourself what kind of lifestyle you will be HAPPY with.....NOT how much you can SURVIVE on. None of us are retiring to countries with no social safety net to live like a peasant. Quality of life is the key. If you can't buy a BETTER quality of life, then there is no sane reason to move there.
One of the posters in the thread states that public transportation is for LOSERS. By that logic, most of the population of Thailand are "losers". The poster identifies himself only by a number, but I would suggest that he re-evaluate his priorities rather than slinging invective. I don't need the expense of paying twice what a car costs in the United States without financing. I don't need the hassle of repairs and upkeep. Simply put: I don't need a car in Thailand, when public transportation is ubiquitous and cheap. Calling people "losers" because they choose the path of least resistance is being elitist. Farang snobs are not needed in Thailand. We should be goodwill ambassadors.
Loved your video,it is so practical and said in a compassionate tone.I love passionately travelling, been to Australia, south America,China and Europe many times.Want to move to Europe next year, hope to find an useful video like yours from an American point of view. Are you in facebook.?
Eat the street food. It is fresher, cheaper and you have more interaction with the locals. When in any country, eat like the locals do, just make healthy choices. Avoid the deep fried food, etc.
Living in Pattaya budget: 1000 baht a day. This is for food and entertainment and whatever. Factor my 9 month 4750 baht rent to own scooter expense into the 1000 baht a day budget. I like my new Honda Click 125. So that's 30,000 baht. Plus 8,000 baht rent and utilities, 5000 baht for storage rental back home, and I should add about 7000 baht a month to pay for Thai language school. So that is 50,000 baht a month spent easily. I could save money living further out of the tourist area but I might need to buy a gun to fight off aggressive soi dogs, almost got turned into puppy chow the other night. No joke.
RetirecheapJC. And no, he is not a douche. He is actually showing you real prices and talking to expats. I recommend watching Scott and JCs videos for information on living in Thailand.
Hi I found your video very interesting. Am going to Thailand on a tour for 16 days . The only things that's not included in the tour is drinks & food . So I wanted to ask you about how much USA money should a take for a 16 trips . I was thinking maybe 1200 dollars . What do you think , how much do you recommend I should take .
About how much do you think I should bring . I mean it's a guided tour so they will take us several different places . I mean , when I said & food drinks I just meant regular drinks none alcoholic. I can't drink beer or alcohol . So if am budgeting properly , how much should I bring just for food & juice and to buy maybe a couple of souvenirs.
The best i had it was 68 to the uk pound in 2002, sept 2010 i got 49 now it's just over 44, if it drops anymore my option of living in Chiang Mai in a couple of months might be delayed and probably work in the uk a little longer than planned.
Hi Scott. You give some good straight up advice and comment but I would like to add my 2 cents on the visa subject. Perhaps you have already spoken about this previously. Why not get an education visa ? On my last trip I got the 30 day holiday visa, went up to Chiang Mai and signed on with Thai language school, Walen. They were very helpful with the paper work. I had to go to Thai Embassy in Vientiane Laos to pick up my visa ( 2,000 ) which was an overnight stay ( 1,000 ). All in all that cost about 30,000 baht but it meant I did not have to do a visa run each 60 days as I had previously done with my triple entry visas or fly out to K. L.. Met some very good people, tested my brainpower and I can now read and speak ( some ) Thai. I had to go to the immigration office to check in occasionally but a lot less hassle than going out of the country. They allow you a visit home though where I am now sorting some business but i'm going back in August. Next time I only have to report to immigration once. BTW my budget is 30,000 pm. I pay 6,000 for rent and utilities, electric, water, tv, internet, a/c, fridge for my studio apartment, hot shower and balcony. Gym 2,500. A mix of Thai and Western food, a few beers - smokes and the occasional holiday ( Pai is cool ). I found the biggest expense was my now ex girlfriend but hey thats the same everywhere. BUY LOCAL HEALTH INSURANCE. Chokdee krap.
***** My observations were, like yours, intended for people perhaps planning to visit Thailand as more than a tourist than any perceived contradiction. I'm sure your very savvy in Thai living and I would not presume to tell you about visas or any other aspects. But fyi, I do go to school, its only 6 hours a week plus homework, only my brainpower is not what it was and Thai language is as you know very different to get your head around. Perhaps next year ( only my 5th ) my understanding will improve. Mai pen rai na krup !
***** I've never lived in BKK, too busy for me. I live - have lived in Chiang Mai so I can't compare costs like for like. But Capital City of any Country will always be more expensive. We get a lot of backpackers up here, usually young who are willing or out of necessity, get by on as little as 300 - 500 baht a day including accommodation. It can be done but I would not recommend it. My daughter did so while passing through on her World tour ( Daddies treats aside ). I did it for 3 weeks when I had an unforeseen problem ..... not exactly miserable ( thanks to my friends ) but I would not want to do it long term. Eating only street food, fruit and water will sustain you if you can live that way then fine but to have any comforts, not even luxuries then $500 pm just does not cut it ... for me ! I think the average Thai earns about 300 baht a day or approx $270 p/m. Again not aimed particularly at you Scott but for the interwebbers in general. Kind regards,
Hi scott i watched several videos of you to learn more about thailand life and living conditions. One quick comment your voice too low so it can hardly be heard so you should make the recording volume higher. I am planning to invest in thailand vietnam indonesia and philippines and trying to decide which one to settle down or rather set up the headquarters.
Scott I am LJ an American living in Thailand...I am not in full agreement with some of this...I am in Sakon Nakhon and it is cheaper than Bangkok (I stay there 2 years). Rent 3000b,no A/C fan but not so bad here, elect-650b, water-200, food about 150b a day, beer about 110b a day, gas for my motorcycle 400cc about 600b month = 12200... can be done....
Glen Williams Yes, I understand that isn't $500. If I was content being single I think I could do OK on that. I live in a smalll city. That's my preference.
Great info. I have estimate retirement income of 2400 a month in ten years. My plan is to live on half of that or less and save the rest for medical and emergencies. I am single.
At least for me Camb cheaper ;-) It has alot to do with lack of opportuneties to spend. Also I was refering to an expat lifestyle, not $18/night hotelrooms. My room was $3/night simple but with "Everything" 1km from the beach. As I'm sure U know, the longer you stay the cheaper it becomes, you learn the local price and stop paying tourist prices. But I agree with you on one point, local street food in Thailand IS cheap and MUCH better than in Camb. Good channel I enjoy it alot
u need minimum 3000 $ for having good time with girls. without girls u can live with 500 bath a day (have no idea what u will do all day in your room). usually u spend more than u calculate. best way is to stay home. also prices going up every day . thai play money games with farangs
i want to go to thailand to train muay thai i am going to say at the camp but how much money should i bring for 3 months? money for every thing i would need besides a place to stay
Good video Chiang Mai been there a bit small, smokey when burn offs occur Scott im thinking Cha am just near Hua Hin i will be budgeting for $20,000 Aud per year what is your opinion of cha am cheers phil
My girlfriend lives on 500 dollars a month and is considered lucky. I constantly have to subsidize her pay to keep her head above water. Any farang who thinks they are going to be happy living on 500 dollars a month in Thailand, is just lying to themselves.
I Think pretty accurate Estimates. I couldn't live on B15000 in Thailand but that's because there is so much fun to do and so much aroi food in Thailand. In Cambodia however I have no problems living @b15000. Most things are alot cheaper in Cambodia There isn't much to do. There isn't much to eat either. moto trips 50c - $1,5 local lunch $1, Tourist dinner $3 room with ac, internet, shower, satelite $150 beer 50c And a-gogo is illegal & enforced. ;-)
Thanks, very interesting and useful info. Well done. Less than 1000$: no chance. Maybe, already also some more it will be too difficult. it depends also on what we are willing to sacrifice. Ciao
Hi Scott , enjoy your videos , if you dont mind me asking , what would you think is a realistic ballpark figure for an Australian couple non drinking non smoking to retire in thailand comfortably ?
Hi Scott, Some very informative video's.and good information. I would say in my opinion I could not live on that and enjoy a reasonable lifestyle. In the last 20 years of coming Thailand I have seen some massive price increases.Could I live off 500 bucks no not in Bkk. My minimum would be around 50/60,000 and that's living quite a comfortable lifestyle. However I do have friends who live in the north who do live a frugal lifestyle but is that a lifestyle most falangs want when they come here.
Hey Scott, I was thinking about moving to Thailand (from Australia) to work as a expat engineer (graduate this year) and plan to stay 3-5 years. I live a healthy lifestyle, I am single, I only drink on special occasion (less than twice a week) and would like to save money. Have you met any foreigners in Thailand who are in a similar situation as me?? How are they finding it? Is it possible for me to survive on 30,000baht while meeting my above lifestyle?? Any advice will be appreciated.
Hi Scott I been through some of your videos and you have some good advice I just wanted to ask a few questions as I will be SOLO travelling to Asia for the first time and I'll be backpacking I've decided to travel for 3 months from mid march to mid June and have decided to travel thailand, Cambodia, loas and vietnam I'm 24 years old male from England, single, enjoy partying, meeting people and doing fun excursions etc.. I would appreciate it if u could give me some overall general tips and also what would be a decent budget while travelling I'm happy to eat street food and stay in hostels and all the other backpacker stuff but maybe a few time where I enjoy a hotel or something.. I was thinking about £4000 for spending while am out there approximately 90 days this including excursions food travel hotels alcohol cigarettes etc would it be a tight budget? Thanks
2436911 Hey there. Oh mate, you're going to have an amazing time! I have backpacked through all those countries you've mentioned and I can tell you that you'll have an amazing experience. To be honest Thailand I didn't care for that much. Full of tourists, especially in Bangkok. If you get the chance head out to the island of Koh Tao. Beautiful place and great parties with free entertainment on the beach at night. Cambodia has its amazing angkor wat temples. Don't know if you're a fan of ancient monuments and such but if you are then this place will amaze you. If you do decide to check it out make sure you get the sunrise tour to see the sun rise behind the majestic temple. P.S. Get there early to get the good spots. If you're in Phnom Penh at any time then you MUST check out the bars. They have some amazing bars in that city. Just don't be flashing your money or wallet around, you know what I mean. Laos is easily the most laid back country I've ever been to. You'll see what I mean when you get there. Compare an early morning in any of those other countries to a morning in Laos. This country also has the most friendly people in South east Asia. Everything is ridiculously cheap as well! If you make it to the capital vientiane you must check out the night market. But the most happening place in Laos where ALL the backpackers and tourists go to is luang prabang. You are guaranteed to pass out from partying in this place. And the parties start very early around noon. There are also some very beautiful temples here if you want to do some quiet sightseeing. You can also do rock climbing here and mountain hiking. Finally Vietnam, Ah Vietnam, how I love this country :-) . Amazing place with even more amazing people. Ho chi minh city (Saigon) is a great place to meet people and party. You can do a lot of cheap tours here. Try the Cu chi tunnel tour and also check out the war museum. You MUST check out the markets for some amazing, ridiculously cheap food and other goods. Other places to check out would be Nha trang and Mui Ne. Nha trang which pretty much lies on the beach really has some crazy party scenes at night. When my friend and I went there it was Chinese New Year and they had some wild celebrations. Mui Ne is pretty laid back and much more quiet. They have some amazing (expensive) resorts here which will definitely be out of your price range if you're backpacking. If you make it to this city then check out the sand dunes near the beach. We also checked out Hoi An which is an old French inspired (architecturally) city. They have some of the most delicious street foods in this city so make sure to give the restaurants a miss if you make it here and check the out the street food. The one thing this city is known for however is its cheap clothes. They'll design and make any item of clothing you want here. ANYTHING! My mate and I had a couple of suits made and for an extra small fee they actually ship everything back home for you so you don't have to carry the extra weight. Lastly we ended up in the capital Hanoi which was actually a little cold compared to the rest of the country. Things aren't as cheap in this city mate. A lot of locals here speak English so you won't have as hard a time. Mate, just make sure you take it all in because you're about to have an experience like no other. Me describing it for you here really doesn't do it justice. Just go there with an open mind and take it ALL IN! ENJOY!!
I was in Thailand for 3 months and I can tell you , you can not live on $500 a month, not if you want to have any kind of life, I guess if you are there to live as a long term resident(lease) ,and live a very poor mans life you could do it . I had a budget of 1500 US dollars a month and that was hard to work with because I do like to drink and party a bit, but even if I didnt drink I think a $1000 a month is hard to do if you want to have fun while you are there.
I'm a Thai living in Pattaya and $500 is doable. People who work on minimum wage go on with 10k a month (baht). No aircon and no western foods, $500 is comfortable. If you want aircon and fancy western food, you gotta go with 30,000 baht a month, most foreigners live on that, e.g teachers earn 20,000 to 30,000 baht a month.
me and my wife will be for 17.000 thb a month, otherwise we're livind for 20,000 thb. each month ..we have a house i Chiang mai and we do not go to a bar and drink and do not smoke either
Would I be able to get a mechanic job their???? What are options for foreigners? I would not teach even in America I'd never want to be a teacher. I can deal with cheap. Is one year visa the longest? What should I do if I visit for a month to see if I like it.
Also, I have the time on my phone. I don't even need a watch. But I see your point Scott. Not all things in Thailand are cheap. But eating out is much cheaper than here in Canada thats for sure. Also I found flights within Thailand were really cheap.
I live in a village in north east near makong river .built nice house over 17 years myself .i dont drink or smoke i have a great wife and speak the language well now after years of study and street conversation .my biggest expense is visa and food and electric .other than that bits like diesel to go to city .im outdoors all day i never stop doing things i enjoy .like playing my guitar singing making great food cheap .going markets talking snd laughing with locals .i went to england home 2 years ago for first time in 25 years for 2 months and lasted 7 days i couldnt handle the weather the grim faces the control and new riles and constant survalance on every corner worst of still the political corectness and the fear of speaking your mind in people .$500 is hard now because the thai baht is 50% stronger than when i came here but hes right you can manage on it but not in bangkok i think not now .good video though hes about right in my view .at 55 he should get a retirement visa for 1 year .
You cannot even get a retirement visa to stay here unless you are 50 years old and have about $2000 (60,000 Baht) a month income from home. Living on that amount with still be better than the US but not by much. Teaching English here will net you a big 25000 Baht ($800) a month if you are lucky, enough for a Thai to live OK but not for a foreigner.
did you see Indians working In Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, KOREA, Malaysia, SINGAPORE ? what kind of teaching opportunities for Indian English language teachers or other teaching jobs In Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, KOREA, Malaysia, SINGAPORE ? is it possible for Veterinarian to live In Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, KOREA, Malaysia, SINGAPORE ? can you please make more videos on life In Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, KOREA, Malaysia, SINGAPORE with reference to Indian?
hi Scott, I wish I have a 500dollars live off of that in my country (Philippines). that's a lot of money for me to live in the Philippines. I know you are in Thailand, im the kind of woman who doesn't give a darn thing about pedicure, hair done whatsoever. im just a simple person. I reside in America for now been here for over 20yrs. I have a house in the Philippines I rent out my two bedroom house for 2thousand pesos to a Filipino people. nowhere in the Philippines could find a cheaper house like mine. thanks for sharing your video.
I can get Thai peanut butter for $1 and it tastes better then US, just like Thai ketchup LOL, I think it tastes better LOL, I make a much better income then that, I do pick to live cheap, as I have more money for the good things, I rent a Very nice apartment as you see in my video for $4000 Baht a month, a one room, but I only sleep there, the rest of my time I ma out having fun, seeing the sights, and just having a good time, no need to stay in a cave LOL,
I have lived in Thailand for 1 year it cost about $720 month village living it was ok then have lived the other way witch cost a shit load more anywhere from $2500 to $4000 but once u take out booze and whores it pretty cheap life is what u make it good video's keep them up
rollsroyce336, hahah its so pretty good question anyway. Seems like the majority of western people still have no idea about real-world production costs of their gadgets and so on ;-)
Hi SCOTT i like reading your posts just one thing i would pull you up on, why on earth would anyone want to spend 300+ dollars on a Casio for christs sake, when watches are two a penny out here, i have just bought a cracking ROLEX clone for 1,500 Baht, and just bring your own watch, hello, they last for years.
500 bucks go a long way in provincial towns. Why on earth should you stay in BKK? Girls are free by the way...if you have a brain. Cigs....?local tobacco is virtually free.
WOW bud, you need to hang with me in Bangkok LOL your prices you listed for the cheapest stuff in cars and watches and TV's up to 2:40 is way off, if your getting these prices you do not know where to shop in Thailand, and your getting the Western up charge, yes the IPHONE is retarded there in price, and hell they don't get 4G not even 3G really LOL. but I can get cars in Thai areas WAY cheaper, and TV's and watches too, it is all about knowing how to shop like a thai
what a stupid Video. kunn my loo lüang. why are you making Videos without knowing anything about the Topic. i was living in phuket, songkhla and cuntryside in south Thailand. 20000 bath is great living.
im planning to go live in thailand this year with my girlfriend whos a thai ,, scott can u add my email please i could do with some more detailed info from some1 who knows what they are on about ,i dont know anything at all about visas or what i should be getting so i need some info on visa paul-ferriday@hotmail.co.uk
Hi Scott, i like your candid honest style and practical advise.
Thanks for taking the time on these vids.
Really like your videos. Been here for twelve years (work) and I you nail it every time with your down to earth advice.
thanks for this scott! really helpful!
Im budgeting after i have paid rent, insurance and visa, as i have put aside money specifically for this.
But this really helped me work it out! thank you! keep up the good work!
You can change the volume in your moviemaker program on the timeline audio chanell and upload that version or you can try editing on YT as well.
Thank You ...a good down to earth report on the facts that matter.....
Thanks, Scott. Very informative indeed.
Thanks so much for ur informative videos!
No worries, just reporting it to you :) I will use speakers later...interested to watch it.

So, 500 or 1000 that includes everything go for it.
very interesting video. I think its great when you can control your finances
Good practical comments
should tell viewers about the Visa's for people that have a Thai kid or wife, or husband, you can stay for one year, then do a quick PP run to Cambodia for a few days and done, the best way.
Scott,
Great stuff.
I look forward to buying you a beer etc
thank you.
New Cars start at roughly 450.000 THB a 32"TV at 8000 THB. ;)

Here's a video on costs of living in Vietnam. ruclips.net/video/sgR6Wb-h_Hk/видео.html
Fred Azbell I have been to Vietnam and Thailand and I can confirm that the cost of living in Vietnam is cheaper. However, in major cities like Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) you'll have to fork out a little more than you would everywhere else.
Air bender
I would NOT doubt that Vietnam is cheaper.......but 300 US dollars a MONTH?????
Thanks Scott, if and when thailand does your budget in, you got another 6 asian countries then south america to achieve the dream. Good Luck my m8!
Avoid the deep fried food, etc.
thanks for the info
Okay awesome , thanks buddy .
The best i had it was 68 to the uk pound in 2002, sept 2010 i got 49 now it's just over 44, if it drops anymore my option of living in Chiang Mai in a couple of months might be delayed and probably work in the uk a little longer than planned.
The prices of consumer goods you mention are quite high. Is this because of import taxes?
Scott... I have a pension and budget of about 4K a month. Could I got to Thailand and live there for a year and travel on that?
very good, thank you
***** Scott is you wife Thia ? just asking as you said you fly out yearly and didn't mention that she did ...
yvonneost12 whoops thai LOL
I do it for $600-1000--just me and GF. I don't drink much. I do pretty much anything I want. Eat what I want. I'm happy.
Glen Williams
Yes, I understand that isn't $500. If I was content being single I think I could do OK on that. I live in a smalll city. That's my preference.
Great info. I have estimate retirement income of 2400 a month in ten years. My plan is to live on half of that or less and save the rest for medical and emergencies. I am single.
At least for me Camb cheaper ;-)
It has alot to do with lack of opportuneties to spend.
Good channel I enjoy it alot
u need minimum 3000 $ for having good time with girls. without girls u can live with 500 bath a day (have no idea what u will do all day in your room). usually u spend more than u calculate. best way is to stay home. also prices going up every day . thai play money games with farangs
my income is over $150,000 baht a month, but I only Spend $5000 a month on housing it is more fun that way
where do you pay your medical insurance & should I pay it If i'm only there for 6 weeks ? thank you !
i want to go to thailand to train muay thai i am going to say at the camp but how much money should i bring for 3 months? money for every thing i would need besides a place to stay
Good video
Chiang Mai been there a bit small, smokey when burn offs occur
Scott im thinking Cha am just near Hua Hin
i will be budgeting for $20,000 Aud per year
what is your opinion of cha am
cheers phil
My girlfriend lives on 500 dollars a month and is considered lucky. I constantly have to subsidize her pay to keep her head above water. Any farang who thinks they are going to be happy living on 500 dollars a month in Thailand, is just lying to themselves.
I Think pretty accurate Estimates.
I couldn't live on B15000 in Thailand but that's because there is so much fun to do and so much aroi food in Thailand.
In Cambodia however I have no problems living @b15000.
Most things are alot cheaper in Cambodia
There isn't much to do.
There isn't much to eat either.
moto trips 50c - $1,5
local lunch $1, Tourist dinner $3
room with ac, internet, shower, satelite $150
beer 50c
And a-gogo is illegal & enforced.
***** Thank you
Hi Scott,
Some very informative video's.and good information.
Hey Scott,
I was thinking about moving to Thailand (from Australia) to work as a expat engineer (graduate this year) and plan to stay 3-5 years.
Also is it possible for me to just live on a boat?????
Thanks alot for replying very helpful. So what else could I do besides teach?
O
Last thing do I pick the visa when I land their? Should I call the embassy in advance?
2000 grand would be perfect but its tough to make that kind of money in thailand
i ment to ask is tough to make that kind of money
5k a month in thailand would be amazing!!!
LOL! Who is buying a $300 watch, when your budget for living expenses is $500/month? Hilarious!
BTW, Scott I enjoy your channel and advice. keep it up.
Also, I have the time on my phone. I don't even need a watch. But I see your point Scott. Not all things in Thailand are cheap. But eating out is much cheaper than here in Canada thats for sure. Also I found flights within Thailand were really cheap.
i think 1000 us $ is sure, sometimes more
I think you meant to ask: "Are you UNable to live in one small room without being claustrophobic?"
Teaching English here will net you a big 25000 Baht ($800) a month if you are lucky, enough for a Thai to live OK but not for a foreigner.
scott...you say that you dont drink or smoke but where did that big belly come from? and if you were a boxer were u in better shape? (no offence)
what about 500 after rent
Soo $500 a month could cover basics. If want to have fun bring more money to the table.
did you see Indians working In Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, KOREA, Malaysia, SINGAPORE ?
what kind of teaching opportunities for Indian English language teachers or other teaching jobs In Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, KOREA, Malaysia, SINGAPORE ?
is it possible for Veterinarian to live In Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, KOREA, Malaysia, SINGAPORE ?
can you please make more videos on life In Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, KOREA, Malaysia, SINGAPORE with reference to Indian?
means Indian have less scope there.
hi Scott, I wish I have a 500dollars live off of that in my country (Philippines). that's a lot of money for me to live in the Philippines.
I think it's a bit bold of you to suggest that you can't live off $500 a month, when most of the people manage to live off $1 a day.
I can get Thai peanut butter for $1 and it tastes better then US, just like Thai ketchup LOL, I think it tastes better LOL, I make a much better income then that, I do pick to live cheap, as I have more money for the good things, I rent a Very nice apartment as you see in my video for $4000 Baht a month, a one room, but I only sleep there, the rest of my time I ma out having fun, seeing the sights, and just having a good time, no need to stay in a cave LOL,
I have lived in Thailand for 1 year it cost about $720 month village living it was ok
then have lived the other way witch cost a shit load more anywhere from $2500 to $4000 but once u take out booze and whores it pretty cheap
life is what u make it
good video's keep them up
Sound needs to be upped...cannot hear the talking voice.
rollsroyce336, hahah its so pretty good question anyway.
$500 ? Thats not enough.
%000 baht a month................IMPOSSIBLE
I can *survive* with only 100 dollars .......what nonsens asking !!!!!
Wow! Troll much?
I cant fucking hear you
what a stupid Video. kunn my loo lüang. why are you making Videos without knowing anything about the Topic. i was living in phuket, songkhla and cuntryside in south Thailand. 20000 bath is great living.
