THIS is going to be GREAT! In high school I took a girl to a YES concert on our first date. She fell asleep! I never called her again.
Awww 😂🩷
Smart move,🤣🤣👍
🤣
How do you sleep through Yes??
@@aprilstewart5929 not me! I never asked her. It was a pretty quiet ride home lol
The incredible bass of the late Chris Squire is the highlight. This is a staple on classic rock radio.
So incredible
@@MaddyReactionslike you even noticed 😂
@@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek Uhmm... she literally mentions the bass several times in the video. I'd be crying, too, if I were as slow as you.
@@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek Try watching the video.
It’s the best thing in this song and the second best thing and the third best. Andersen’s vocals and Howe’s guitar are tied for fourth. I forget, is it Wakeman on keys? I’ll put him as the fifth best thing.
I saw Yes in concert multiple times when I was younger. Much younger. They were my absolute favorite band for the entirety of the 70s. Thanks for reacting to this, Maddy!
No problem! 🩷🩷🩷
Yup, this was happening when I was in early high school(in rural Kansas) about the time I started smoking weed.
Good times, good times.
"Everything is different, somehow."
"Why, yes, every thing is different."
Dang! If I had met a girl in highschool that YES was her favorite band (and replies 😬) I would have married her.
Just "Close your eyes and listen." As most of us Yes fans well know, Yes music requires the listener to immerse themselves, within the privacy of one's own head, and with repeated listenings; therefore to allow the music to carry you on a journey within one's own soul. With Peace and Love to all! (Michael)
Then the 80s came and Yes was TRASH!
52 year old song. How freaking incredible? Thank you Maddy.
So epic
And in 52 more years it will still sound like it came from 52 years into the future. ❤
I've probably heard this song 50,000 times. It Never gets old!! One of the best bands in history!!!!!
Their live performances confirmed it.👍
The virtuosity is pretty evenly distributed between all members of this lineup. Chris Squire (RIP) was my favorite rock bassist and could easily steal the show in most songs. He really slays it in my favorite song of theirs “Heart of the Sunrise”.
His "duet" with Bill Bruford on Heart of the Sunrise is something special.
I went to a Yes concert at Anaheim Stadium, back in 1976. They were there with The Who. It was EPIC.
I would put one of their albums on, put on my headphones, sit in a big comfy chair, close my eyes and just go on a mind journey, no drugs needed.
So fun!
Now I feel really old ! This was the second song I heard Yes play when I saw them live for the first time over 50 years ago - so thanks a lot ! 🙄😂
BTW - the ticket cost the extortionate price of 60 pence ( about $1 ) - so not all bad😉
Omg!!! What a time!
They were one of the best Progressive Rock bands of the 60's and 70's. I had the privilege to see them live several times back in the day and they were amazing. They sounded just like their studio recordings and this was before Autotune and the digital crap that is recording now.
"80's" and "90's" also. 1983's 90125 was their biggest selling album with the introduction of Trevor Rabin on guitar 🎸 and " OWNER OF A LONELY HEART" a #1 Hit. 1991 the UNION album came out with the rejoining of Steve Howe on guitar 🎸 and Bill BRUFORD on drums now having two drummers. Peace 🕊️☮️
A group of the most masterful musicians in the history of Rock-n-Roll!! A single song of theirs could go on for 30 minutes or take up one entire side of an LP, and you never get bored! 1 of hundreds of bands I've seen in concert over the years.
Bassist Chris Squire a one-of-a-kind bass in that it was a 2-channel bass. One output was wired to the neck pickup and one to the bridge pickup. On this song, he rean the neck pickup to a bass amp set "normal" to sound like a full, round, low-end bass. He ran the line from the bridge pickup to a distortion pedal and then to another amp. This set-up gave him that unique "full low" and yet distorted sound. I blew the rear dash speakers out of my 1963 Chevy Impala playing this song WAY too loud.
🎼🎼🦊🔥🦊🎼🎼 .. back when bands could play multiple instruments, and change rhythms, and share the spotlight, and sing well, and harmonize, and surprise the listener, and take you on a journey, and incorporate different styles in one song, and could sound just as good live as the studio, and could keep your body moving for 8 minutes, and write meaningful lyrics, and could make you want to buy their album, and didn't need or want autotune, and made you want to learn an instrument, and didn't care if anyone knew their names, ...... and much much much much more !!
I love this song and have been wowed by the singer - Jon Anderson - for 40 years. 🌬🌬🌬🎙🌬🌬🌬
I saw them twice in the early-mid 70s. I knew their music well but the concerts were other worldly. Each member of the band performed impeccably, in perfect unison, and appeared enjoy performing together immensely.
Landscape was a good description, Maddy. Thank you.
Wow, I bet!
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth. First time I saw Yes was in 1975 I was so impressed l saw Yes 35 more times till Squire's passing in 2015. 🙏🍁
It was used as the ending theme song for the anime Jojo's bizarre adventure, the used to start slowly after the episode ends and then the main riff starts with the "To be continued" screen, and so it was used as the "to be continued meme" when something dramatic happens or about to happen and it stops right before with "to be continued" and the song starts.
The song and the band are more popular for the actual songs rather than the meme though, the meme is pretty recent but the band's been influencal for over 50 years now, they are one of the best progressive rock bands ever
Fantastic Band,
Experimental rock, they were at technical and creative levels... Impressive. Gorgeous Maddy. Grazie
Yes they are!
The bass is great in this tune. My band in SoCal back in the day tried to cover it. The bass player couldn't ever get it right.
Lmao it’s a really groovy one
absolute classic from my favourite era of music

Hi Maddy. Yes was one of the best Progressive bands of all times. Chris Squire was a beast on the Bass. May he RIP. Darn now i feel old this came out when I was 13 years old back around 1971.
"They must have liked this band" because they are the greatest band of all time!
Great choice what a great song Madds 🥰
Agreed 🩷
Love the band had all their albums!
Epic!
Saw Yes and Kansas in concert back in '99-'00 time frame. Best concert ever.
Thanks Maddy! Good memories. Got to see them with Donovan.
Great choice. One of my favourite bands and Chris Squire's bass is fantastic. Every single one of them is/was a great musician. About the lyrics- Jon Anderson wrote some impenetrable lyrics and I think it's sometimes best not to try and decipher them. Maybe it's more about the sound of the words and how they flow rather than the meaning. Something like that anyway!
Sooo good!!
Haha, i'm german and never before heared the word "impenetrable" but i think it fits maybe very good to the "Getting Over Overhanging Trees" text part of "The Revealing Science of God" ( ruclips.net/video/WGEIzcsxodU/видео.html )
btw.: i absolutely love this part 🥰🥰
You are exactly right about the lyrics. John Anderson has said that he sometimes chooses words not for their literal meaning, but for the sound of the words and how they flow together. With Yes, it’s sometimes better not to get caught up trying to figure out the “meaning” of the song. Enjoy✌️
@@angiek6799Thats great to hear, since i as a german, my whole live mostly just listened to vocals as another instrument and seldom really cared about the meaning of the words. I mean of course if its just a love song or a political song, where it is easy to know what meant, then yeah, but as soon as it gets more "poetical" .. but i also never was a big fan of reading and interpreting poetry back in school. So in the end i really totally agree with Jon, that for me the sound and flow of the words is the most important.
Hi here in the UK. ALL the members of Yes were brilliant. Steve Howe, lead guitar, is still performing with Yes. I went to their 50th Anniversary tour. Jon Anderson has an amazing voice.
I couldn't help but smile watching this reaction. I fell in love with Progressive Rock as a teenager in the 1970's. So excited to see a young one recognize the influence of Yes in some more recent music.
Thanks for the smiles 😊🎶🤘✌ 🕊
"The music is fronting & the vocals are backing". That is an excellent analysis of the song. It really highlights how brilliant these musicians were, & in some cases, still are.
That was so fun. And yeah Chris Squire just dominates this song although of course they're all so good and I love the vocal Arrangements I really do.
Saw them live in the early 80s unbelievable in person
Great song from my time, no auto tune, and they can play !
Bill Bruford's drums and percussions though! Good God. The man is a legend for good reason.
Yea because the entire band was
phenomenal, Bruford was not noticed as much as he should have been.
I saw him live with King Crimson and when he toured with Genesis after Peter Gabriel left.
@@garyluciani1082 I would have loved to have seen Genesis on the Trick of the Tale and W&W tours. My 1st time was seeing them on And Then There Were 3 tour, then Mama tour, then the reunion tour about 10 years ago. I should have gone to more shows!😔
@@DocRock71 I only saw Genesis twice. I didn't know much about them but my friends told me about them and I went with them when Genesis was touring " selling England by the pound.
They played songs from their previous albums as well. They opened with watcher of the skies
It blew me away.
The last time I saw them was trick of the tale with Bruford on the drums and Collins, for the first time, as lead singer and front man, although on musical sections he also got on the drum kit.
Two drummers Bruford and Collins playing together. I didn't know how Genesis were going to pull it off without the aura and presence of Gabriel, but they did it.
Yes are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968. The band has undergone numerous line-up changes throughout its history, up to nineteen musicians have been full-time members. They have had a lot of great songs such as "Owner Of A Lonely Heart", "Starship Trooper", "Going For The One", "Masquerade", "Yours Is No Disgrace", "Heart Of The Sunrise", "The Gates Of Delirium", "And You & I", "Close To The Edge" etc. Sadly drummer Alan White passed away recently.

Ooooh great info, thanks ☺️
From Canada here. If I'm not mistaken this song was on the album with the original Yes lineup.
This is a top 5 all time favorite rock song. It’s a masterpiece.
You are on a roll young lady.

Great reaction Maddy! Yes is a fantastic band. I saw them live in the very early 70s and this song was the last one in their set...before their encore
So cool!
Yes is definitely timeless! Great reaction!🤘🎸
One of my favorites. Thanks Maddy.
You're so welcome!
this is the LP version but live in concert... no difference, or even more amazing! wore the grooves off this LP also!
One of their minor masterpieces.
It’s got a great beat that kids love to dance to
Oh, I love me some Yes! I saw them so many times in concert that I lost track. Every time they came, I was there. No exceptions, no excuses. One of the best groups of all time and In my top 5 forever.
I’m 69 and it does my heart good to see a young lady such as yourself enjoy a 53 year old song from one of my favorite bands ever. Chris Squire is the bass player and you have a good ear. He was a premier musician and always impressed. Carry on!
Love this one.
Me too!
After Zep, absolute favorite band. A rabbit hole well worth it, you will receive an abundance of guidance. heh. Yes fans form opinions. 😊 Enjoy Miss! Ty for reaction.

Great analysis. The bassist, Chris Squire was an innovator and pioneer of the instrument.
Love this Band.A few buddies and I from my Army unit in Germany rented a car, went tear assing through Europe and the UK listening to this album.
When I saw them ,the stage would slowly spin in a circle !! Mid "70's"😁
masterpiece, nice reaction !
I would love to take you to some of those great 70s and 80s concerts just to watch you dance and get into the music.
This was a great era for British rock bands.
Chris steals the show again lol
Ha!
That wonderful smile
When music is enchanting you...
Yes is a rabbit hole worth going down. I was introduced to them with this tune. A "roundabout" is a road junction with one-way traffic that goes around a central point to converge with another road, or something like that. The lyrics are impressionistic, perhaps, but should be decipherable once you get into them.
Ohhh okay!! Nice info 🩷
Not a bad way to end a beautiful Sunday watching a beautiful woman dancing to my favorite group, oh YES
Musicians. Not just a featured singer.
Voice is an instrument too.
✌️ You’re fun to watch.

@@MaddyReactions Recording engineer think. The focus is different for purpose. Journalists make categories to suit their own needs. The engineers don’t care. Do it and document it later.
Thus, the “Featured Vocalist” mix versus the “Feature the Whole Thing” mix.
✌️✌️❤️
Hi Maddy how's your day yes is awesome love 💖 it just been rainy here lately thanks for sharing this song 🎉😂❤
Aww no problem 🩷
The third album I ever bought - I still have the record. Amazing!
Nice! I think my first 10" album was called Mind Bender by K-TEL. A best of 1976 with Elton John and Kiki Dee "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" etc. My 2nd was KISS Destroyer. Rock On!!
When this first came out, my neighbors would listen to this all night . . . . even if they didn't want to.
Heard Yes, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd in high school. By the time I reached college age my mind was thorough expanded. :)
Chris Squire is one of the greatest and most musical bass players of all time.
Bassist, the late great Mr Chris Squire, one of the key architects of the unique Yes sound
Thank you Maddy. 🎸🎼🎵🎶 🌹
I saw YES in 1983 Berkeley Amphitheater, again in 1986 Fresno Coliseum, again 1990 Denver, Colorado
You need more YES. When Chris (bass) and Jon (lead vocals) formed Yes, it was partially because Chris believed that the bass should have as much of a lead part as every other instrument. He didn't just want it to be on the floor of a piece, he wanted it up front, and Jon agreed. It'll interest you to know that all the members of Yes could, and did, sing; Chris had a beautiful voice which blended well with Jon's. You would probably love "Heart of the Sunrise".

Your reactions are amazing, keep it up, And so are you.
Maddie, you looked radient grooving to Yes. It's cool to see your reaction to an iconic favorite.
So good!
Roundabout always brings back great memories of happy times in the 1970s for me.
As soon as you said "Polyphia must like this band", you earned my trust. Carry on!
Yes singer Jon Anderson recorded four albums with Greek film music composer Vangelis.
Vangelis led one of the first ever Progressive bands, Aphrodite's Child. They sold tens of millions of albums around the world in the late 60s, yet are almost unknown in the U.S.
Jon and Vangelis's most famous songs are "The Friends of Mister Cairo", a love song to old movies, and "State of Independence", which was covered by the queen of Disco, Donna Summer. Vangelis was an early experimenter in Electronic music, in the early 1970s. His synthesizer scores for documentaries and dramatic movies include "Bade Runner" (1982) and he won the Academy Award / Oscar for his music to "Chariots of Fire", from 1981.
Thanks for the recommend... Love Vangelis and prog rock yet never heard of the group.
You can't not move to this music. YES takes you to places you've never been in music.
I remember one Christmas eve, waiting in the snow for a bus for over an hour to visit my girlfriend. The only bright spot was someone playing this album on replay with their window open. Must have heard it four times in a row, and it made the wait bearable. I also had the pleasure of seeing them in-the-round at Madison Sq. Garden with the full compliment, including Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman. It was magic.
Chris Squire's bass on this song never quits. He has to be the best ever! If not it sure doesn't take long to call the roll
❤❤ Thank you. It’s been a while since I’ve heard Yes. ❤❤
I've heard this a thousand times and it still sounds totally epic. Thanks for your reaction.
I grew up in Montreal, Canada, the first North American city to adopt Progressive Music bands as huge stars. Yes, Genesis and Pink Floyd still remain the three favourite bands of most Rock fans in Montreal.
A Fantastic classic rocker !
chris squire was a great bassist. steve howe a great guitarist. this is probably the closest yes came to a "successful" single until their later years with "going for the one" from 1979 i believe. yes and all "progeressive" rock bands were more "album" bands than singles oriented. meaning they were NON-commercial. something that attracted us hippies at the time. we LOVED this stuff!
now you have to listen to yes' "gates of delirium" from their "relayer" album. its quite literally a true rock masterpiece! thanks for the video. i like your glasses.
YES is the greatest progressive rock band in my opinion. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them. Loads of greats including "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "Close to the Edge", "Turn of the Century", "Starship Trooper", "That, That Is", "The Revealing Science of God", "In the Presence of" lots more.
Yes your playing YES

Thats a classically trained organist you are hearing there, Rick Wakeman, legend.

Aloha Maddy, this too shall be fun...😂❤🎉😊 great song
🤗
We didn't just dance to this back in the day. We smoked to it too!
They played this song at the end of their set at most concerts. The crowd went crazy !!!!
I'm 59 and am Yes fan since i was 12 or 13 when i bought the live album "Yessongs" and then for looong time every day after i cam home from school i first listend to "Close to the Edge" 2-3 times. A few years later i got a new friend who also was an even bigger Yes fan at that time, and every day when i visited him, the first question was, which of their 20min+ songs we would listen to first 😄
Whaterver, you should check out this really great version of "Awaken" that Jon Anderson did in the 2013 (he is 69 here btw) without the band Yes, but with an incredible islandish band which also includes an orchestra and choir, and its just the greatest version of one of their greatest songs ever :
"Awaken" - Jon Anderson & Todmobile 2013
ruclips.net/video/d_Va3e_52TE/видео.html
Oh .. and don't really try to understand the lyrics. I somewhere have read that even one of the band members said something like that Jon Anderson, the vocalist, is maybe the only person who tries to save the planet even if he doesn't live on this planet or in this world 😄
What that means, in the end its all very esoterical, and nobody really understands it, so just take the vocals as an instrument and its totally fine.
Chris Squire on bass. One of the greatest bass players from the golden age of Rock.
Beautiful maddy,yes is great
Thank you!!
When I was 16 - then in 1979 - a friend of mine showed me the Yessongs Life Album. From this day on I loved Yes until today.
Wow
Welcome to the sound of a Rickenbacker 4001 bass. They have this real twang to their sound known as "Clank" Chris Squire here did amplify his through guitar amps to get this high end "Concrete mixer " sound going. It was the bassline he was most famous for.
Progressive r&r 70s style.. btw Maddy Lovebites will be in the USA in 2024 at the ProgPower concert series on day 3 !!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Whoa!!! So cool
50 years ago...you have a lot to catch up on...not bad for old white guys with a groove. This is our oldies, can you imagine what yours will be?
THE BEST ROCK BAND EVER. The Kings of PROG. This was their first Hit but YES were not a Hit driven band and rarely got commercial radio play then. So this song is just a drop-in the GRAND BUCKET of the mastery of the unconventional genius of YES. YES lyrics were also metaphorical and just as unconventional.
LOVE seeing young people enjoying THIS INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE! ❤
Saw these guys in 1980, and let me tell you, besides being such an awesome show, you won't find a bigger anchor than Chris Squire. RIP
I never saw YES but I did see Jon Anderson and Bill Bruford play in a small club in SF in the 80's.... ummm YA!
