No, not produced for anything. It's just YES and this is just a small taste! YES were the greatest most complex imaginative creative band ever. This song is about the impact of the scenery during a return home road trip through mountains, valleys and roundabouts. Their lyrics are metaphoric, abstract and very visual sometimes often with spiritual elements. Each member are famous to PROGRESSIVE FANS as the BEST ever on their instruments. Their 70s music was pushing the limits & NEVER compromised for mainstream success. They were always innovating & and creating ART

You've gotta love prog rock. So unpredictable and the rules go out of the window. YES are truly phenomenal. Do more Yes! You won't regret it! 😎

It wasn't produced for a movie or anything, just a song for their album. They are prog rock masters, most of their songs are complex. Starting with their 3rd album they were always ahead of their time. Still together and touring but with a million band member changes over the years.

YES is the greatest progressive rock band in my opinion. I just subscribed. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them. Loads of greats including "Roundabout", "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "Close to the Edge", "Turn of the Century", "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change", "That, That Is", "The Revealing Science of God", "In the Presence of" lots more.

Stay in the album, there are other gems in it, then check out The YES Album before hitting their epic masterpieces of Close to the Edge, Awaken, and Gates. Don't rush getting to the epics, there is mastery in almost every classic YES composition. Great reaction!

1971 is the year I graduated from high school. The 1970s were the zenith years of analog sound. I listened to this through a quadrophonic sound system with four huge speakers in each corner of the room. Pure vinyl heaven. Years before digital.

It's very cinematic, but no. It was produced for the glory of the sound. But keep paying attention to Yes. You'll learn a lot.

this was written in the back of a van on tour in Scotland as the boys were driving on the road looking forward to seeing their girlfriends. it was written as a commentary on their road trip, admiring the scenery, watching the road unfold & coming upon traffic circles (called roundabouts locally) on the way to the hotel where the girls were waiting for them.

One of the most influential recordings. We're talking 1972 and reaching 13 on the Billboard charts. Roundabout debuted at 88 Feb. 12th.
By the 26th it was a power play at #48. Broke into the top 40 at #39 on March 4th. Donny Osmond's Puppy Love was #38. March 11th is was at #32, sandwiched between Melanie and Sonny and Cher. March 18th found it at #28 sandwiched between James Brown and JJ Cale. March 25th it was up to #20. April 1st. #17, sandwiched between Sonny and Cher and The Osmonds. April 8th up to 14.
April 15th it peaked at #13. Here are the songs that were above it....
1 THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE -•- Roberta Flack (Atlantic)-7 (1 week at #1) (1)
2 A HORSE WITH NO NAME -•- America
    3 I GOTCHA -•- Joe Tex
4 ROCKIN’ ROBIN -•- Michael Jackson
5 HEART OF GOLD -•- Neil Young
6 IN THE RAIN -•- The Dramatics
7 PUPPY LOVE -•- Donny Osmonds
8 BETCHA BY GOLLY, WOW -•- The Stylistics
9 DAY DREAMING -•- Aretha Franklin
10 A COWBOY’S WORK IS NEVER DONE -•- Sonny and Cher
11 MOTHER AND CHILD REUNION -- Paul Simon
12 10 THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT -- Robert John
All those songs and Roundabout being played on hit radio. Roundabout had a major influence on mainstream music.
What people need to understand is the kids back then were listening to multi-genres everyday. Those songs and artists were being played back to back on radio stations and those stations were the only venue for new music. Roundabout was a hit song being played right after Rocking Robin. Mainstream, pop music listeners from that era were pretty damn diverse and sophisticated.

Love your reactions man I always do. And I think that gets a lot of us going up was we'd never heard anything like this when it came out for me it was around College age. I mean it was around earlier but I didn't appreciate it because I was so into ACDC and Lynyrd Skynyrd and all that. And I still love all those things but, man Chris Squire on that bass and Rick Wakeman on the keyboard, it's just a mind-blowing thing.

Chris Squire on Bass. Best rhythm section ever! When you say the instrumentation is animated and has life, I agree whole-heartedly. It is completely organic, like it springs from the soil in April. Check out "Yours is No Disgrace," "Starship Trooper," and "I've Seen All Good People" just for starters.

More than any other group, Yes defines Progressive Rock. Prog rock was started in 1967 with the release of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by The Beatles, and the release of "Days Of Future Past" by The Moody Blues in that same year. Here are some other groups to check out that all contributed to this new direction in music: Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, ELP, Led Zeppelin and others were all prog bands at some point in their careers. These musicians have given us some of the greatest compositions of the last 50 years. Among musicians, being able to play Prog is the Holy Grail.

Thank you for reaction Sir! New subscriber. So many places to go here. You will thank your headphones. Compositions...every song of theirs is like this. Produced for an album. 😊 You could be on to a life-opening discovery. Truly hope that you are. Yes did / does that for myself. Stick to '70s era for now. I suggest 'Yours is no Disgrace' from "The Yes Album", then every track on that album as your time allows, then see if they speak to you. 😊

4 Staggering works of Rock n Roll released in 1971... Led Zeppelin - "Untitled" (Runes) Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality Yes - Fragile Deep Purple - Fireball All of these albums represent a penultimate expression of the 1970s ethos... More is better!! Chris Squire, the Bassist in Yes, was a big fan of James Jamerson, a top session Bassist in Motown during the formative years of R n B & Soul in the 50s & 60s. To me, that Funky Influence is in this song for sure! I've loved this song since the summer of 1972. I was 11 years old, and the local High School right down the street from my house used to open their pool to the public during the summer months, and my dad bought me a pass every summer for at least 5 years of my adolescence, and this was the high dive/low dive 12 foot deep pool that was separate from the lap/competition pool, and they used to play the local FM Rock station over the PA system surrounding the pool area. That memory will be always be linked to this song. So glad you got to experience it! Remember, the only race you need to be in, is the human race...

At the high end, you will find "Close to the Edge" and "Awaken".
