  • See More Garden Goodies: www.WisconsinGa... - - - We begin this second part of our September garden tour by reviewing our experiment with container garden tomatoes, looking at how our giant Dahlias are developing, our purple baptisia, luscious calla lily leaves, peony and strawberry beds, our peach tree revival. Then on to our herb containers, vegetables growing in the SW portion of our raised bed garden area including Chinese cabbage, peppers, kale, peas and beans, our rose bushes from seed, straight 8 cucumber plant, baby peach trees we found growing from pit seeds, and end this part of our tour by observing the late development of our Chinese poppies we also grew from seed in one of our containers. Coming up next, we move to our north vegetable garden areas where we grow our big tomatoes, spaghetti, zucchini, butternut and yellow squash and more. Thank you for watching and if you like our garden video blogs please click the button at the end of this video and join our garden family by subscribing.

    I think the trimming of those 2 peach trees did the trick. They look fuller and stronger. Hopefully next year our peach trees produce! Your little offspring peach trees look great as well.

      +Sarah Miller We did have our doubts as to what to do with our large peach trees. Just couldn't remove them so we cut them back to see what will happen. Juries still out. It will be fun for you both to see the baby trees in person. We'll even let you name them if you'd like. Only a few more days. See you both soon. TKS Lynn & Richard

    "OH...The calla lillies are in bloom again!"...Katheryn Hepburn......hahahhahaaaaaa..how about showing us those hydrangeas?

      +SuperWoodyboy Wasn't she a wonderful actress. So many memorable films with her distinctive laugh. Sorry but the hydrangeas are pretty much done for the year. They really took a beating with 2 1/2 months of really hot and dry weather. Even with all the watering we did, they struggled to survive. So not much to show other than green leaf growth as we would have shown them in part 1 of 4 in our September garden tour if in bloom. By the way, what are you doing up at 2 O'clock in the morning? The thunder and lightning woke us up this morning around 5:50 am. Much needed rain. Still about 5 inches behind. TKS Lynn & Richard

    I always appreciate your honesty about whether certain veges are tasty or not....I've had tasteless tomatoes as well....well, there is always next year!! LOVE your videos as usual. Look forward to part 3!!! It's been SSOOOOO hot here in upstate NY still!! It was 90 again today. My husband was teasing me because the first weekend in September I get out all of my FALL decor in the house. As I was putting out pumpkins and leaves and autumnal colors throughout, he came in from the outside sweating profusely!! Well, the weathermen are saying a few more days of this sticky stuff. By Friday it supposed to drop to the 70's which will be glorious!! Thanks again for another great video!! Take Care!!! Hope the cabbage wasn't entirely ruined!!

      +Mamey Brown About 2/3 of the Chinese cabbage made it. Very tender and sweet. High 80's and extremely humid around here the past couple of weeks. Painful to be out in the garden or even cutting grass. We too are looking forward to the end of the week when the daytime temps should also be in the 70's. As former MPS teachers in schools without AC we could only empathize with students and teachers. If the heat doesn't get them on the playground, the bees have their way finding them. We went through many ice packs in September and had to keep our windows closed as well. Talk about stuffy, hot and sweaty and most of my K-3 students didn't use under arm deodorant but still wanted hugs at the end of the day. As always we appreciate your comments, sharing and watching our Wisconsin Garden video blogs. Part 3 coming soon! TKS Lynn & Richard

      It's true of anything. I love mulberries, they grow wild here, but some trees produce rather tasteless berries. My grandmother had a great tree in her front yard. I would love to have one, but only if it produces delicious berries.

    It has been hot and humid here as well. Our two purple smoke bushes need some pruning/trimming badly, but I won't do it in this heat. I haven't cut the backyard in almost 2 months!!!

      +Sarah Miller Finally a really nice rain today. Cooler weather heading your way soon. We too haven't been attending our own garden in this hot weather. Despite the heat and humidity, and stretches of no rain over the past 2 months, our grass is going wild and needs cutting about every 3 days. For a while our big trees zapped the surrounding lawn of all moisture. Looked pretty brown for a long time. But with several solid rainfalls the lawn has begun to perk up. This is the first year we experimented with Milorganite lawn fertilizer. Definitely thick and healthy. Still have a few weeds that find a way to pop up. Pleased so far.TKS Lynn & Richard

    Hi Lynn its me again so as I told you I like your garden very much and I always watch your videos .So I bought some peony seed but they did not grow yet .How long do they take to go out if they are good? and when I can seed the Chinese poppy please thanks

    • @WisconsinGarden
      @WisconsinGarden  9 лет назад

      +Joan Agius We will assume you'r referring to "Peony Tree" seeds. If you are, the 2,000 peony tree seeds we planted took 1-2 winterings before perhaps 100 started popping out of the ground. Then the rabbits ate all but 17 down to the ground. We were told by peony experts to be patient. If we were to do it again, we would not have started them by seed but rather by Peony tree bare root. Keep us posted. Lynn & Richard

    again enjoyed your video that's to bad about your tomatoe plant thay look like thay could of been good tomatoes if it had not been for the tast have you tried to put salt and pepper on them maybe that would help anyway you know how that goes its all about trile and aire

      @WisconsinGarden  9 лет назад

      +Jackie Horsley These were too terrible to even waste any salt or pepper. Those were just two experimental container tomato plants that ended up tasteless. We wanted to show our upcoming Container Garden class this option for their patio or condo. We have our main crop (30 plants) in our northern bed as you'll see in Part 3 of our September Garden Tour that are doing quite well and delicious.

    I don't blame you for not wanting to work in 90* weather. Too Hotttttt! I don't know how you all keep all that straight on where you have what planted and don't double plant. lol That's my problem. Even when I label.

    • @WisconsinGarden
      @WisconsinGarden  5 лет назад

      Occasionally we do come across areas where accidentally double plant even when that area is labeled.. We simply move bulbs to another surrounding location. Thanks again for watching, caring and sharing. Lynn & Richard - www.WisconsinGarden.com

    Sorry I don't know the name because I lost my tag. My tomatoes are absolutely delicious, but they are slim picking because they won't ripen...can't win! :(

      +nananel1 You still have at least 1 month be patient. Only our 2 test container tomato varieties were horribly tasteless. Our main crop of 30 plants are doing extremely well and very delicious, especially the tomatoberry variety you'll see in part 3&4 of our September Garden Tour coming soon. TKS Lynn & Richard
