- We're repeating one of the toughest challenges to ever be on this channel: I have to play with Reforged graphics, but I CANNOT complain in any shape or form, but this time there's a caveat! We're going for the female Death Knight model! Oh dear...

For a death knight she looks pretty healthy. Also her hair looks like the end of a mop.
Why did they change the Naga hero's death sound to that of a Naga Siren Caster? I like her more when she sound like a grandma who just fell of a chair.

@@Tweakerbythespeaker I'm sorry but what do people find exactly "ugly" about the new graphics. I legitimately don't understand. Old graphics are iconic, but the new ones are straight up more up to date
@@billba1330 They really aren't though, this is like outsourcing art to a middle school. It's really poorly done & looks entirely unfinished, like its a few layers short of a finished product. I don't know how anyone can look at this and not see it as ugly, I know aesthetic things are a matter of opinion and taste but it just screams poorly done.
regarding those red lasers at around 5:40 , It's technically the visuals of the wisp that move from one frame to the other because they are probably culled away from the screen frostum to reduce rendering usage and then when it comes into camera view, the code instantly moves the position of the vfx to the wisp, this creates a trail from the particle effect of the wisp. hope that helps!
I suspect the trail come from the wisp's last known location.
@@a.y.102 it's a very common problem in video game development, moving objects instantenuously from one position to the other without interpolation that have a trail particle.
they just have to disable the trail before changing the pos

After a quarter hour of watching a dark blue-purple blob wade through green acid, visit paths of black sponge from time to time, and collide randomly with a red-orange-grown-green blob… Seeing the same in REAL graphics was unbelievably cathartic.
OK they really need to fix the readability issue. For most readability issues a simple color palette modification would do a lot already. Like one of the reasons the OG necromancer is so readable is because of his super saturated red cloak (his silhouette is also super clear ofc but that would be harder to fix)
I approve of goth mommy death knight. In theory. The implementation is… something else. Why isn’t her portrait animating when she speaks? 😮

The game isn't really being worked on nearly as much as retail WoW atm and probably won't be in the future. Personally... They should have used HoTS engine for warcraft reforged because I'm a little annoyed that no pathing changes happened. When going to another side of the map the game still makes units get stuck on a random tree line just like it did before reforged. The pathing was never improved or fixed. Meanwhile HoTS pathing works great.
Brilliant tactical play. The hiding behind the creeps was awesome, and Grubby judged the timing so accurately he was literally starting the camp as soon as oppo turned around. Possibly the best tactical player I have ever seen
5:25 Those red lasers are lazy brogramming, they happened in a game called Heroes of Newerth as well. The unit or some effect recycled or not updated when off screen, because that's how games reuse memory, but when they're in range, they suddenly zoom into place. The laser may be an effect that takes wisps last position into account.
The hiding play reminds me of the DOTA ai that was pretending to be stupid in order to bait the enemy to come. It was walking (like patrol) back and forth in vision like it didn’t know what it was doing, but it was all on purpose
5:23 Challenge fails hard when a red Star Wars laser shots across the screen

I would be absolutely terrified if the screen was loading and I saw that my opponent had the usernames of "Lianpia", or "Lyn" or the three ideograms with his famous Shadow Hunter icon and the 2,680 MMR rating next to it, Imagine non-ironically starting a WC3 conversation with:"I was playing against Lyn...". You are a man of much bigger balls than me, Grub. Congrats.

I love how Manaburn looks like life drain, makes it so much clearer to see.
The problem for me is they overworked the design to mutch clutter in the details. somewhere in between reforged and Orginal would have been mutch better.
Check warcraft models in Starcraft 2, those look way fucking better
They also made frostmure into a big ass chunk of iron that in reality would only work if you are guts from berserk

@@elpsykoongro5379 It's meant to look imposing tbh even in the old cut scenes and animations the sword has a really weighty movement to it despite how small it is so it still works fine

I like the genderbent versions of the heroes, if only if the execution was done right.
yeah all they had to do was to update the graphics a little bit, increase the resolutions and maybe a few more polygons, not a completly different style.

I actually never watched a game with reforged graphics before. I Saw how ugly it was by watching screenshots but I never witnessed it live.
I genuinely had si much trouble telling things apart. My sight is starting to lower, so when they started playing on grassy ground it genuinely made my eyes hurt.

I mean, the skins and all are cool, I think this is one positive thing we all wanetd from Reforged, like, let me play as Jaina in regular matches replacing the Archmage model etc. But not only we didn't get much of that, well...we got all the other stuff Reforged brought

I think the laser is a glitch with the wisp being revealed and then immediately going back into fog as you walk by too fast. Probably happens with other units too if they pop into vision and immediately pop out.
I am Russian and I remember that sweet times hanging with boys discussing recent wc3 strategies and grubby's gameplay style etc. Amazing time.
In all honesty: didn't they also make a female version of the Death Knight available in classic graphics? Like with the female Demon Hunter?

I don’t actually think the female death knight is bad. It’s just that she’s in reforged, so she’s surrounded by bad which makes her seem bad.
I believe that many Heroes can have both female and male versions, but don't half ass it at least

much respect, I'd definitely have an easier time beating 5 Grubbys while playing blindfolded than completing this challange
Heartfelt Reforged enjoyment aside, the dommy mommy goth DK does sound quite a bit better than the bent DH. I give her 'hiya' 4 out of 5 Lunas

The graphics look good individually (in most cases) -- the problem is when you put them together in a real game, including the terrain, it gets hard to see things. Although I am gradually sort of getting used to it, but I will always miss the easy-to-see WarCraft III Classic graphics.
its more of muscle memory lol you've been so used to the old graphics and shapes that the new ones throw you off

@@zytha2890 I had literally never played w3 pre-reforged and when there where side by side comparisons the visibility and the visual fidelity that is provided by classic W3 graphics is leagues upon leagues better than the reforged graphics. Your claim of muscle memory is bs.

I found something to compliment! The invulnerability potion effect looks nice.
While the female DK VO lacks a lot of the menace and presence of the male one, the actress did a great job. That 3D portrait is hilariously bad though.
I thought the enemie had pretty early Spellbreakers until I realised he is a Night Elf player and its his dryads lol. Also is there female Lich King? or should i say Lich Queen? or Crypt Lady? Dread Lady?

One of the things I noticed about the new graphics that bugs me is the buildings. When the camera isn't moving, most of them look exactly like pre-rendered sprites. You expect them to have the same perspective even when the camera moves, but get confused with it turns out they are actually 3D. The gold mines and altar of elders are the worst in this regard. They look more detached from the world lighting than the original, or even older games who had no simulated lighting.
Mabye this would not have happend if blizzard made the art them selfs?

Damnn! That hidding play was lovely and the fact that it paid off is even cooler.
Damn, everything is so freakin ... black and colorless. At the beginning it looks like a big black mob moving around. Then the elf fight and the bears also are black/super dark? Naga is super small and looks like a merc. The invu effect on the demon hunter was like almost invisible. And the list goes on and on...
I think the models itself are fine but they really need to change the colors/brightness/contrast or whatever makes them more colorful and also easier to visualize to which player they belong.
I could imagine this is not a huge effort and would make reforged maybe a viable option for online gaming.
At the moment it is really a huge disadvantage using those graphics.
I would say that female deathknights don't make sense at the time period that Warcraft 3 takes place, but the artwork and voicelines seem pretty good.

Orb of Venom and Orb Of corruption are the best in tier list. Orb Of Lightning is 2nd best. Rest are mostly trash.
I feel like they just got super tunnel vision when it came to reworking all the units. It's all so painful to look at.

after the initial backlash pretty sure bliz pulled just about everyone who was working on it so unless bug reports are made they're probably not even going to know its there
there's been some stuff breaking lately too like hero portraits no longer animating on some characters
personally they should have remade the game in HoTS engine because warcraft's seems pretty clunky now especially with the terrible pathing that i encounter a *lot*
that pathing problem has existed since before reforged was a thought though

One question I got since I don't play wc myself. Why did he ask for opponent's race but didn't say his back? Or why did he ask in the first place? Is there some sort of etiquette around that question that I am missing?
Definitely a 'to each their own' thing, but I honestly don't mind the reforged graphics at all.

well its lore possible for fm dk look at mommy Sally Whitmane of the Scarlet Crusade. When it comes to mixing units by visual, its on you. Practice and don't make mistakes.

Serious question: What are the (main) problems with reforged?
Played a lot of wc3 when I was about 10 -13 years old (17 years ago). Recently really enjoying these Grubby videos. All I ever heard from reforged was that it was seen as a huge let down by the community and that seemingly noone uses reforged graphics.
So I would really be interested in hearing what the problems with reforged and the graphics are. I'm currently 5 minutes into the video and the unit models seem quite nice. However what in the Mountain Dew is that grass color :D.
How do you activate the female model?
Grubby you got to play RE-REFORGED campaign by InsaneMonster, altough it`s only Scourge of the lordearon, it was pretty good. solid 10/10 IMO :)

Been watching Spellforce 3 later and it has become the standard for a good amd modern looking RTS for me. Unfortunately, there isnt much content for that game.
As a viewer, Reforged Graphics are damn good
I love this challenge because I think it literally is impossible. There's just not enough about the graphics that's actually good, so anything you can ever say about it just comes off like sarcasm.
It's a good thing this was not a MM otherwise it'd be impossible to tell how fights are going.
The quality of your reforged videos are lower resolution than your normal ones? (Like in normal i can read the chat too, so i know its not the actual games issue). :/
Most videos are 1440p and quality between two of those is identical. Sometimes I forget to press record and then max quality is 1080p and an export from Twitch.

I'm thankful they added a female death knight, it's neat and nearly all the heroes were dudes. But she doesn't look...amazing in classic graphics. I just endure it. Most of the other models look terrible too, like Nega-Chin paladin 😆
