Mine won't start without a squirt of starting fluid. After it's been running it restarts easily. I'm thinking the low jet on the carburetor needs opening a bit. I haven't looked into this yet but will soon. Other than that I love mine. I only have a resin shed fir storage so it fits easily. It's well built and splits everything fine. To save my back since it is short I wear knee pads and kneel next to it. I stack wood to be split around me. As I split wood I toss the pieces into a yard cart until filled. This is much easier on my 67 year old back. I also lay down a tarp and roll the splitter to the center. After I'm done for the day I dump all the wood chips on the tarp in a garden area. Makes cleanup so easy. Thanks for the great video.
I'm impressed. Ordered one after watching your video. I also have a Champion wood chipper that is incredibly awesome so I figured this is the best compact machine I can get for the price and the price was half of what others want for a similar product. Thank you for taking the time to post this video.
I had one of these for 3 years. It’s very compact and fairly quiet. I ended up selling it as I get lots of large knotted wood from a tree service. I upgraded to a 25ton vertical/horizontal machine. For most wood up to 16in diameter this splitter would work great. It would do bigger but it helped if they were fairly straight and clean wood. I would buy one again if I needed a homeowner splitter for firewood
I found it would split 99% of everything I tried even some very large pieces. It really helps to dry the rounds some before splitting. I do elm quite a fit and it is very stringy when wet. Pops right apart when dried
I've got an old mackinaw splitter ...this seems similar in size. I can't find any info on them...the cycle time and size seem similar. Thanks for a good video.
I can pick mine up and put it in the box of the truck and take it to my cottage (1 hr highway 30 minutes on logging roads) and split wood. Then I can go north to the trapper cabin (3hr highway and 30 min goat trail) and split wood. Try that with a 30 ton tow behind...LOL This thing works great for me.
Thank you for your video, do you know the steps of how to bleed the hydraulic fluid do get the air out?, I got the same machine but no enough power to split the log.
I have an electric 5 ton that sits low to the ground. I took one of my 2x10 ramps and set it on the side of my splitter. When I have one of those gut busting pieces, i just roll it up the ramp onto the splitter. Saves my back and gut.
LOL yes, it's a backbreaker. I'm 77 years old and split wood for a half hour, rest 10 minutes and return to it. Pain is weakness leaving the body. You got this!
Ok, I just started up my splitter and it started up just fine but when I push the lever forward the beam just jerks towards the log and once touches the log just stops there. Any ideas as to what is wrong?
It may help to do a few "dry" cycles to get the hydraulic system primed for splitting. Two or three cycles should do. And, yes do top up the fluid reservoir.
I have had my log splitter for a couple of years...I can't get it started...I have changed the spark plug...and followed the owners manual...no luck...any suggestions to get it started?
@@mikez104 I have replaced the spark plug....should I replace the fuel that's in it? I had left a little bit in the splitter over the last few months..I filled up again when I went to use it....I haven't replace or broke down the carburetor to clean out any gunk...is it that hard to break down and put back together? That's what I may have the lack of self confidence to do. I don't believe mice have eaten the wires. I have a Champion chipper and it started right up and I keep it in the same place as my splitter. Frustrated because my splitter won't start..
NOPE! This is worth it. I got a 8 ton, electric, Vertical Horizon Power Horse log splitter for 91 bucks with free shipping! The same one that NORTHERN TOOL SALES FOR? 600 bucks
Folks he makes money from trying to sell you harbor freight junk. Do NOT buy this overpriced junk took me like 1 hour to start and then piston stopped working. Just rent a commercial grade splitter. Also, do NOT buy small wood chippers... You'll be better off throwing branches over the fence.
@@mikez104 Excellent, I reviewed your video and you have no links related to the item you are reviewing. Thank you for being honest and I am glad you are happy with the tool. I hope it serves you well.
Something about watching logs being split that just feels amazing, I can watch videos like this all day
Same. It is somehow soothing lol. Cheers bro
Me too it’s so sad 😅

For sure has me thinking it would be all I need here, After watching your video of it in action. Thanks!

I have a lot of wood with 2-3 knots each. Does it not split them at all? I just ordered this one bc it's the cheapest best one in my price range

finally a splitter with a real solid log. Sold!
We are looking for a good log splitter and this one Definitely now has my attention
I would for sure raise it up to standing height to spit wood 😊
Most of our wood is 4/13 inches so it’s lightweight 😊

That thing is a beast
Hell yeah it is for the size!!!!

I'd probably set it up on the tailgate of the truck... other than being so low to the ground, that is a great deal

Thank you, If I have the machine on moving back and fourth with the valve open, some fluid comes out, is that normal?
Ok Thank you again
Ok if your doing small stuff, but definitely a back breaker, and cycle time is 3 days.

@@mikez104 ok I will try that.
Quick question...I have same one as this and it's leaking oil. By any chance would you know why or how come.
Is it leaking from the engine or the hydraulic? Either way it sounds like a seal needs to be replaced
Was this wood already dry?
Reason i went to Vertical Horizon is? So there no lifting on those big heavy logs
will this split oak?
how you like it? still using it?
Too low to the ground for me. Way too much bending over.
